Gizmos has a good article explaining the different programs. It explains the differences and what's good or bad about the specific program. http://www.techsupportalert.com/best-free-genealogy-family-tree-software.htm Linda Parsons ----- Original Message ----- From: "List, Lovelace" <[email protected]> To: "Larry Campbell" <[email protected]>, "List, Lovelace" <[email protected]> Sent: Friday, August 22, 2014 9:57:25 AM Subject: Re: [LL] Computer Program Hi, Larry The Master Genealogist is still for sale on the WhollyGenes website here: http://www.whollygenes.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?screen=TMG#buytmg Yeah, support is ending, but the program should be usable for a while longer. I'll refer you to the TMG mailing list on Rootsweb (http://lists.rootsweb.ancestry.com/index/other/Software/TMG.html ). Since the announcement of the "end" of TMG, that list has been abuzz with discussions about possible alternatives. Discussions have included the possibility of a "son-of-TMG" program development and discussions about how many users (including me) will continue to use TMG for the foreseeable future. Since TMG is the only event-centered (as opposed to person-centered) genealogy database program on the market, I will continue using it until another program emerges that has the same feature set. I'm on Version 9.03, which is the latest version, and it should continue to work for a good while. I highly recommend it, even though formal support is ending. The TMG list will continue to offer support, and there are very knowledgeable people on the list who have been involved in ongoing development of the program. But if you are planning to buy TMG, you should do it sooner rather than later, because sales will be suspended at some point in the near future. Hi Greg: If you have any of those in a place that I can get access to them I would be happy to look at some of them for you. FHL Film #428857, "Rutherford County, North Carolina: Minutes, pleas and quarter sessions, 1779-1868," specifically "Minutes 1838-1850." See, my ggggrandfather Benjamin Lovelace died in Rutherford County sometime between 1844, when he helped to found Walls Baptist Church, and 1850, when he is absent from the census but his widow Nancy emerges as a head of household. I have been searching for what seems forever to find out exactly when he died, but have never been able to pinpoint the date. The way things appear, he died intestate, and his widow Nancy was probably allowed, by what J. Mark Lowe told me was an agreement in moiety by the heirs of the estate, to remain in the house on the land until she died, probably in the fall of 1868 when an administrator was appointed to handle his estate. This FHL film covers the years 1838-1850, presumably when Benjamin died. The Family History Center here has a microfilm scanner [YES!], and I have spent the past three days there scanning my little brains out. I now have 700 pages of court records from two books saved in PDF format, with about another 300 pages left to scan. Then I can begin to comb through them, reading page by page, looking for that needle in a haystack that might tell me when Benjamin died. Another two days in the Center will probably suffice for me to finish scanning. I looked around the Internet, but was unable to find a volume of abstracts of these records. So it looks like I'm going to be slogging through 1000 or so pages of old handwriting looking for Lovelace information. So far, on random looks while scanning, I have not seen a single mention of the surname. But I can always dream! So wish me luck! Dear Greg,Thank you for your welcome to LOVELACE - Rootsweb. It has been about 15 years since I've been on this site. I am a descendant of John Lovelace who was the father of George, 1760, Sarah, 1765 who married Isaac Willilams, and John born March 1770 in Washington County, Virginia. What is the current opinion of the birthplace of John senior? Do most conclude that he was born in England? Judith, The senior John that you are referring to, we commonly refer to as the John who married Rachel Van Hook. John married, first, to Hannah, in 1759, in Holstein Township, Augusta County, Virginia. He married, second, to Rachel Van Hook, in Hoston, Washington County, Virginia. As best as I can determine, John was probably born in Charles County, Maryland. John has been placed in the DYS 739 (12) sub-grouping for Maryland by DNA testing. Hey, Doug.... The court record is from the Spring session 1842. There was no other information in the abstract. So sometime before his death, James Bridges loaned some money to both Abram and B. E. Then those notes were in the inventory of the estate after his death prior to the Spring session of court in 1842. Looking at the record of settlements might shed some further light, such as who may have purchased the notes or whether they were later paid off by Abram and B. E. Looks like a trip to the courthouse is in order....
