    3. Howard, I am not having much luck in identifying your grandfather, Joe H (or Joseph H). I have found your father, Fay Howard Loveless, on the 1920, 1930, and 1940 census. In 1920, Fay is residing in Walker County, Georgia, in the household of his grandparents, William and Kate McGregor. He is listed as La Fayette Lovelace. In 1930, he is still residing with his grandparents. He is listed as Fay H. Lovelace. In 1940, Fay is residing with his uncle, Pierce McGregor, in Walker County, Georgia. He is listed as Fay H. Lovelace. There is a death certificate in Catoosa County, Georgia, (certificate no. 000957). His date of death is given as 18 Feb 1975. The death certificate has his name as Fay H. Loveless. I have found Fay's mother, Bessie Sue McGregor, on the 1880, 1900, 1910, 1920, 1930, and 1940 census. In 1880, Bessie resides with her parents in Dallas, Paulding County, Georgia. Her name is listed as Bessy S. McGregor. This is probably where Bessie was born. Her father is William M. McGregor (1844-1821). Her mother was probably named Sarah Katherine Summers (1854-1932). In 1900, Bessie still resides with her parents, but they now live in Trion, Chattooga County, Georgia. Her name is given as Bessie McGregor, 20 years of age and single. In 1910, Bessie is listed as Bessie McGregor, 30 years of age and married for ten years. She is residing in the household of her parents. NOTE Fay Howard is NOT listed on the 1910 census with Bessie and he could not be found on any other census record. The 1920 census again has Bessie listed as Bessie McGregor. She is now 40 years of age and a widow. She is living with her parents in the Peavine District of Walker County, Georgia. Fay is in the household with her. In 1930, Bessie is found with her mother, Kate McGregor, in the Peavine District of Walker County, Georgia. Bessie is listed as Bessie Lovelace, age 63 and a widow. In 1940 Bessie is still in the Peavine District of Walker County, Georgia, but she is now in the household of her brother Pierce McGregor. Bessie is 63 years of age and a widow. Fay is also in the household. There is a Joseph Loveless, age 19 and single, on the 1900 census for Trion, Chattooga County, Georgia. His date of birth is listed as Sep 1880 and he was born in Georgia. He is a weaver in a cotton gin. Given his DOB, he is too young to be found on the 1880 census, which has an effective date of 01 Jun 1880. I have not been able to locate Joe/Joseph on the 1910, 1920, 1930, nor 1940 census. Howard, It would be helpful if you could join the Lovelace Project on Family Tree DNA. The 37 marker Y-DNA test would provide the most information in allowing us to place you in the appropriate family line. 3. Hello Frank and everyone Frank, you may be the man I was referring to in the previous email. I am glad you put in the phone number, I will call you later. I am sending the requested information, please forward it to Greg. My father, Fay Howard Loveless, (March 02, 1902 - February 18, 1975) was born in Trion, Georgia. His father, Joe H. Loveless is the one I need to trace. Joe married Bessie Sue McGregor ( December 18, 1877- April 8, 1955) on November 25, 1900. The family Bible shows they were married by the reverend Loveless in Trion, Georgia. My father, Fay, was their only child. There is no other information on Joe in the family records. My grandmother, Bessie, raised Fay at her family' s home in Rock Springs, Georgia. Bessie's father, William McGregor, (March 03, 1844- March 15, 1921) from Paulding County, Georgia married Katie Summers, (December 5, 1854- March 8, 1932) of Coweta County, Georgia on April 10, 1873 at Mirah Summers' home. I presume that is in Coweta County. I have a letter from Katie postmarked Newman, Georgia to William, addressed to Dallas, Georgia. The contents of the letter indicate they did not own the farm in Rock Springs at that time. There is also some confusion about the date on the letter so I am not sure when they may have been Newman and Dallas. Rock Springs is in Walker County. My father grew up there and worked the farm until the 1940's. He married my mother, Lillian Elizabeth Ridings (October 24, 1912- August 3, 2003) of Ooltewah, Tennessee, Hamilton County on October 20, 1945 in Rossville, Georgia, Walker County. I am their only child, Howard David Loveless, born April 26, 1948 in Chattanooga, Tennessee, Hamilton County. They lived at 908 South Orchard Knob in Chattanooga at the time. After my birth they moved to 914 Carline Road, Rossville, Georgia where I lived until 1967. My father sold the farm around 1959. I sold the home in Rossville in 1978, I have not lived in Georgia since 1967. I went college in Nashville and was in the Army for over twenty years. Except for some cousins I have no connections to Georgia. There are no Loveless relatives to my knowledge. Clifford Loveless lived a half mile from us and Frank lived in Chickamagua, Georgia but my father said they were not related to us. I am going to leave it here for now. I really appreciate the friendly responses I have received and I look froward to continued communication with other "cousins". Frank I am going to try that phone number this afternoon. Please forward this information to Greg and Alton and any others who may want to see it. 3. Hi, Howard, and welcome again to the list. Can you give us a little more information on your family? Your grandmother's name? Your father's and mother's names and birth years? You mention growing up in Georgia... What part? Are you old enough to be listed in the 1940 census? You'd be surprised at how many Lovelxxx people there actually are! If you can answer some of these questions about your family, then maybe we will have a little more to go on. 1. [LL] Obituary of Bill Loveless - IL
    2. bgsroots via
    3. Bill passed away Sept. 25, 2014, at home, surrounded by his family after a long battle with Parkinson's disease. He was born in Decatur, Ill., to Leo and Helen (Marsh) Loveless and was the eldest of three children. He was raised on a farm on Wyckles Road, west of Decatur, where he attended Warrensburg High School (1944). He had planned on attending Millikin University and then the seminary, but decided to enter farming which became a 40-year experience. He met and married a Blue Mound girl, Rose (Sheppard), the love of his life, through 4-H and Rural Youth activities. That relationship lasted for almost 66 years.Bill was a pioneer in many agriculture activities. He promoted the use of fertilizer by selling and spreading for Perkinson Fertilizer in the early '60s. He was an active participant of the Macon County Soil and Water Conservation District, utilizing many soil conservation practices in his farming. Bill was also a seed corn dealer for Bear Hybrids Corn for 20 years. He received the Outstanding Young Farmer of the Year award for Macon County (1959) and helped establish and was the first president of the Macon County 4-H Foundation, the first 4-H foundation to be established in the state of Illinois. Bill loved people in general and was always sensitive to other people's concerns, often setting their needs ahead of his own. If ever there was a need for "fairness" on a social or community concern, Bill would champion the cause to find a positive solution. In addition to being a member and administrative leader at Sharon United Methodist Church in Decatur, he was also a school board member and one-time board president of the Warrensburg-Latham Consolidated School District. Bill was involved with the Macon County Farm Bureau and a member of the Warrensburg and Hillsboro Lions Clubs. He was a Worthy Patron of the Illini Chapter of Eastern Star and a 50-year Mason of the Summit Lodge. Bill had many roles in life, but his favorite was being a loving husband, father and grandfather. Having lived 75 years in Illinois, he and his wife moved to Oregon to be with his children and new baby granddaughter in 2001. He was happiest when he had his family around him.He is survived and ever in the hearts of his wife, Rose; daughter, Peggy; son, Howard; granddaughter, Annelise Loveless; sister, Nancy of Illinois; and brother, Robert of Oklahoma. A service for Bill's celebration of life will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 3, 2014, at the Hillsboro, Oregon United Methodist Church and at a later service at Sharon United Methodist Church in Decatur. Bill will be buried in Macon County Memorial Park alongside his father, mother and stepmother, Madeline. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Bill's memory to Hillsboro United Methodist Church or Providence Hospice. 1. Re: [LL] Lovelace Roll Call 2014 (The Two Henrys)
    2. Jack D. Lovelace via
    3. Tom, Sorry to be so long in replying. I found it necessary to update my database. As you are aware, there were two Henry's born about 1813 who descend from Lovelaces found in New York. I hope the following clears up any confusion that you may have about them. Henry #1 is Henry Lovelace, the son of Abraham Lovelace and Asenath J. LNU. Abraham Lovelace is the son of William Lovelace and Elizabeth Burns. William and Elizabeth emigrated from England about 1769 and settled in Dutchess County, New York, and proceeded to raise eighteen children. William is found on the 1790 and 1800 censuses for Dutchess County, first in Frederickson Town and secondly in Phillips Town. William probably died between 1800 and 1810, in Dutchess County, since he has not been located on the 1810 census. Abraham is the tenth child of William and Elizabeth (he has five older brothers and four older sisters). He was born ca 1782 in Frederickson Town of Dutchess County, New york. About 1805, Abraham married Asenath J. LNU, probably in Dutchess County, NY. Abraham died on 21 Nov 1857 or 02 Nov 1858 (I do not known which date is correct) in Allegan, Allegan County, Michigan. Abraham was counted on his father's 1790 and 1800 censuses for Dutchess county, NY. In 1810, Abraham was enumerated on the census for Orange County, NY. In 1820, he is found in Susquehanna County, Pennsylvania, in the Great Bend Township. In 1830, Abraham had moved to the Ithaca Township of Tompkins County, New York. By 1840, Abraham had moved further west, to Chautauqua County, New York and in 1850 he was found in Allegan County, Michigan. Abraham is also found on the 1854 state census for Allegan County, Michigan. Henry #1 is the fourth child of Abraham and Asenath (he was preceded by one brother and two sisters). Henry was born about 1813 in Newburgh Town of Orange County, New York. Henry died between 1800 and 1900, probably in Ithaca, Tompkins County, New York (Henry has not been located on the 1900 census). Henry married Emeline LNU between 1833 and 1836, probably in Tompkins County, New York. They raised five children: an unknown daughter, and four sons, named Willard, George W., Albert and Edward. Henry #1 was counted on his father's 1820 and 1830 censuses. He was enumerated, in 1840, in Ithaca of Tompkins County, NY. In 1850, Henry was found in Dix of Chemung County, NY. In 1860, 1870, and 1880, he is again found in Ithaca of Tompkins County, NY. Henry Loveless (Henry #2) was born between 1813 and 1814 in New York. Henry is probably the son of Ira Loveless. (The third of twelve children). Ira was found on the 1830 and 1840 censuses for Lordstown, Trumbull County, Ohio. Ira has not been located on the 1800, 1810, or 1820 censuses. Ira was probably born between 1790 and 1793. Ira probably married Henry's mother (whose name is not known) between 1810 and 1815, in New York. Ira has not been located on the 1850 census. Henry #2 married Martha Marinda Thompson on 30 Dec 1834, in Whitestown, Oneida County, New York. They had seven children. They are: Harriet M. (b: 30 Dec 1834), Henry Dewitt (b: 1839-1840), Edwin L. (b: 1841-1842), Loren Thompson (b: 07 Sep 1844), Alice (b: 1846-1847), Amelia (b: ca Oct 1849), and Arthur Lockwood (b: 28 Jun 1851). Henry #2 was counted on his father's 1830 census. He was enumerated on the 1840 census for Newton Falls, Trumbull County, Ohio. Counted in his household, in addition to his wife, Martha, and his children, Harriet and Henry Dewitt, was Henry's brother, Ira, and Ira's wife. By 1850, Henry had moved to Livingston County, Illinois (he was on the north side of the Vermillion River). His brother Ira is also found there. Henry's date of death is not known, but he was not found on the 1860 census and his children had been farmed out to separate households. My gg-grandfather is Theophilus Cotton born 1805 in Edgefield Co., SC. He appears to be the oldest child of Arthur Cotton and wife ***Sybil LOVELESS (LOVELACE)***. There is a difference of opinion between Cotton researchers on whether Arthur's wife was Sybil or Sarah Moore. I have never found a marriage record to prove it either way. My Cotton family used the name Irene or Irena through several generations, as far down as one of my first cousin and her great granddaughter. My great grandmother was Irene Cotton youngest daughter of Theophilus and Kizzie Cates Cotton. She was born in 1852 in Monroe Co., AL and died in Bay City, TX in 1924. I have tracked Cullen Cotton a little in Texas. He lived in Nueces Co., Karnes Co., Gonzales Co. and he is buried in Williamson Co. He did marry a second time but I really don't know anything about her other than her name is Solina P. Ayers and her first husband was Harris D Thorp. This comes from a descendant of the second wife. After looking at some of the Cotton information that was sent to me by others I am a little skeptical about some things. I need to look at a couple of things more closely. I will get back to you. When you get comfortable with us, let us know who you're researching, and we'll do our best to help you connect. In the meantime, feel free to dig in our archives, and be sure to visit our website at http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~lovelace Our online library of Lovelxxx documents, narratives, and pictures is an ongoing project to which we add as time allows. You can access it right now by clicking on the "Documents" button on the left margin of the main page. And our y-chromosome DNA study has proven very successful in unravelling the confusion surrounding several of the colonial American Lovelace and Loveless families. The results are posted both on the FamilyTreeDNA website (http://www.familytreedna.com/public/lovelace/) and on our own DNA website (http://dna.satmel.com/results.html) Take a look! Glad to have with us :-) Peace, Part of the Tree, Greg

    3. And from what I found just now, it appears that Steven's middle initial "R" might stand for "Rex." He might have studied entomology at Clemson University and written his thesis on fire ants in SC: http://www.worldcat.org/title/behavioral-and-control-studies-of-the-red-imported-fire-ant-solenopsis-invicta-buren-hymenoptera-formicidae-in-south-carolina/oclc/606049502 Mocavo has a photo of a yearbook page from Wingate College in NC from 1980. Steven Rex Lovelace is listed as a sophomore, and there is a picture of him there: http://www.mocavo.com/The-Gate-Wingate-Junior-College-North-Carolina-1980-Volume-1980/629149/73 Peace, Part of the Tree, Greg -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of bgsroots via Sent: Saturday, September 27, 2014 6:38 PM To: bgsroots; [email protected] Subject: Re: [LL] Obituary of William Ratliff menions daughter Laura (Sreven)Lovelace - NC In checking my records I have a Billy R.
