Greg, did you get my answer to your e mail about obit?
Greg, you are right but Homer was also Rogers Grandfather by marriage to Louise.Everyone who knew Roger and our family knew Homer as Roger and Stella's grandfather as that is the only Grandfather they ever knew. We were not trying to be correct by geneology, we were only trying to let the people who knew Roger know who he was..Roger most likely never heard of Dads mom and Dad since he was not into family history. You realize that Homer was Dads brother and also his Father-in law. Ha. What a mixed up family..The obit was correct as far as it went. Louise was his Grandmother first and because she had married Homer many years before Roger was born, she was also his aunt. David Nice to hear from you, hope all is well. On Wednesday, December 10, 2014 2:07 PM, Greg Adams via <[email protected]> wrote: Roger Dale Lovelace / Alvin Lawrence Lovelace / D. Homer Issac Lovelace is the brother of Alvin Lawrence Lovelace, Alvin married Ethel Estelle Shook, who is the daughter of Mary Louise Taylor, who married Homer. I hope that clears it up in the event there was any confusion, homer Isaac was Rogers uncle and step grandfather, however, the word step was never used. Christopher L. Dec. 1, 2014 Colonel Robert L. Lovelace, Jr. (US Army Retired) How do you define an exceptional man, in just a few words? After a second unrelated cancer occurring many years apart, Robert passed away on Monday, December 01, 2014. Throughout his illness he became an inspiration. He took whatever was given to him and looked on the positive side. He was a career Army officer. His last assignment, as a Colonel, was the Senior Logistics Training Officer at Ft. Irwin, Califonia. He retired in 1994 and moved to Water Valley, Mississippi, the birth place of his wife Pauline, who succumbed to colon cancer, that same year. He was a widower with two school age children, Matthew and Amanda. He met Dona Guarr in Water Valley, Mississippi, and they married two years later. They lived there until his children had completed their education before moving to the Huntsville, Alabama area. He worked in the counseling field and completely retired in 2009. But this does not tell what Bob was like as a human being; he was a faithful Christian man who was active in the North Mississippi Emmaus Community and his church. He was also active for many years with the Lions Club International serving the visually impaired, which was his passion. Bob had the secret to life because he enjoyed every day and made every day special. Bob's whole life was about helping other people. He was renowned and beloved for his unique, delightful sayings and for his larger than life personality. He made a friend wherever he went. He will be missed by so many people and we know he has been told, "Well done my good and faithful servant." The family would like to thank Dona for her devotion, care and love for Bob. She too has been a warrior. Bob is survived by his wife Dona Lovelace; sons, Matthew Lovelace (Mary) and Mike Guarr (Mollye); daughters, Amanda L. Lovelace and Holly Canup (Dow); brother, Lloyd Lovelace (Sandy); sister Lynn Griggs (Stan); grandchildren, Ethan, Eli, Fletcher, Slate, Karson, Charles and Quinn; nephews Bobby Griggs and Ryan Griggs (Jamie). Services will be Thursday, December 4, 2014 held at Mount Zion Baptist Church, 228 Mount Zion Rd., Huntsville, Alabama. Visitation will be at noon with the service immediately following at 1:00pm. Burial will follow at Mt. Zion Cemetery. The family request that memorials be sent to the Alabama Vision Mission c/o Dr. Jon Tanja, 4666 Lake Valley Dr., Hoover, AL 35244. Berryhill Funeral Home is assisting the family. Published in The Huntsville Times from Dec. 2 to Dec. 3, 2014

Listers, I'm not sure if we have addressed this yet because it refers to some old posts, but I was going through some of my files this morning and found something interesting. I had found a posting on rootsweb world connect that is about Comptons. What I found interesting are the names and places. These Comptons were originally from Charles Co MD. There were several kids and some of those kids scattered throughout VA. There is a John who went to Halifax Co VA married and died there. John had a brother Jehu. If I recall, there was some discussion that the name on Barton's arrest record was not John Compton, but Jehu. What this family report tells us is that there is a Jehu who was close to Barton's age and who could have been in Halifax at the same time as Barton since his brother John was living there at that time. I have no further info on this Jehu other than he existed. Lou Ann
