Frank Martindale II died suddenly on Monday, March 30, 2015. Frank was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather & friend. Frank is pre deceased by his devoted wife of 53 years, Alice F. Martindale, his son Frankie Martindale, III and daughters Sondra J. Lovelace and Vicki L. Martindale. Daryll Duane Markum(1950 - 2015) Daryll Duane Markum, 64, passed away Saturday, April 4, 2015, at a Dallas hospital. Graveside service: 1 p.m. Thursday in Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Biggers Funeral Home. Daryll served his country in Vietnam, where his rank was staff sergeant with the Air Force military police. When he left the military, he joined the Burleson Police Department. His rank was lieutenant when he retired 20 years later. He had a number of accomplishments during his law enforcement career. Here are a few: He attended the FBI Academy in Quantico in 1987. While with Burleson he helped the department become accredited, which was the first police department in Texas to do so. He put together and trained a SWAT team for the department, which assisted area departments on different cases. Daryll loved music, both playing guitar and singing. He pursued this passion for a good many years after leaving the police department. He had many other things he accomplished in his too short lifetime. He was a very loving and caring husband, father, brother and friend. Everyone who knew him knew he would be there if they needed him. He was good and honorable and loved his family very much. He was preceded in death by his father, Ralph D. Markum, in June 2014. Survivors: Wife, Darla J. Markum of Fort Worth; stepmother, Louise Markum of Azle; brothers, Larry Markum, Todd Hawkins and Marc Markum, all of Fort Worth; son, Jeff Markum and fiancee, Theresa Newcity, of Vermont; stepchildren, Candace Lovelace, Jason Cudd and his wife, Nichole, all of Fort Worth; grandchildren, Dylan, Ava and Austin Markum, Jeremiah and Colby Lovelace and Cayden Cudd. William Lovelace(1947 - 2015) William "Bill" Lovelace 1947-2015 Beach legend Bill Lovelace's life was cut much too short on March 29 when he died of complications from Parkinson's disease. Bill was born in Virginia but brought up in Long Beach where he graduated from Millikan High School in 1965. Bill then attended Long Beach City College where he was a member of Vidar fraternity. He then attended Long Beach State where he played varsity volleyball and graduated with a degree in physical education. After college Bill did a stint in the Coast Guard where his volleyball skills got him out of much regular duty. Bill then became a PE teacher and coach at the high school and junior college level. He was also a successful realtor and a successful investor. But Bill's real love was beach volleyball where he organized and played in countless tournaments at local and not so local beaches. He used most of his free time coaching hundreds of kids, many of whom would go on to become star players for their high school and college teams. He just loved to see his players get college scholarships. And he coached them all for free. According to Bill's good friend Long Beach State Women's volleyball coach Brian Gimmillaro: "Bill has done more for the promotion of volleyball than anyone in Southern California. He was a player, coach and has produced many of the top beach players in the United States and he never charged a dime." There is a campaign to raise funds to rename Long Beach State's sand volleyball courts in Bill Lovelace's honor. On the Long Beach State University's Athletic Department's official webpage there is a place to donate to the Bill Lovelace Sand Volleyball Courts. http://www.longbeachstate.com/billlovelace Bill would have loved nothing more than to know that the Bill Lovelace Sand Volleyball Courts came to fruition. Bill is survived by his brother and sister in law, Tom and Karen Lovelace. He is also survived by his 97 year old father, Major George Lovelace (USMC retired). But most of all he is survived by all those lucky kids who got to have Bill Lovelace as their coach and all the friends he made in the volleyball community. If a man is judged by the friends he makes and the friends he keeps, Bill Lovelace died a very wealthy man. Apr. 1, 1923 – Mar. 29, 2015 Charles G. Hurst, Jr. passed away Sunday March 29, 2015. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles G. and Bonnie Laughlin Hurst, brother Truett, sisters Ruth Rhodersheimer, Kathleen Neal, Rebecca Loveless Corley, Ernestine Rozmeriak, and Lois Blakley. He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Audrey Wood Hurst, daughter Bonnie (Joe), son Charles G. Hurst, III (Robbie), grandsons Matthew Perez, Michael Perez, granddaughter Holli Caput, great grandson Michael Caput and many nieces and nephews. Funeral will be held at Elmwood Chapel, Birmingham, Thursday April 2, at 10 AM. Visitation will be 9 – 10 AM. Burial will be in the Alabama National Cemetery at Montevallo.
