I'm retired and can't afford it either. But I requested donations for my birthday. I'll do it again at Christmas. My relatives think I'm a little nuts, but giving me money is easier to do than shop for a gift (for which my male relatives are particularly grateful). My brother thinks I'm nuts too, but he consented to do the test "as long as I don't have to go anywhere to do it." That's because he loves me, not because he's at all interested in the DNA. Do you have a male first cousin? That would work too. I have 5 male "Love" cousins...all of who I don't see anymore...I perhaps could talk an uncle into it...he and I have a good relationship [not that I have a bad relationship with my cousins..more like no relationship]...but it would take a lot of donations...as I want my husband and or son tested as well for another family project I have on the go....we'll just see what happens...perhaps if this gets more popular...which I think it's going to...it may become cheaper.... the problem with us is...we're not retired...we still have mortages...etc , etc...our outlook is that money should be spent on other things first...and this type of thing is definitely a luxury at the moment...but we'll see....perhaps I'll windfall....
