Ca. 1800 Wilkes County NC, there were two Love families ...both were named John Love. Do not know of others. John Love who was son of James Love II and married Martha James remained in the southern portion of Wilkes County. The other John's children all left Wilkes for (I think TN) in the early 1800's. I am wondering who might be the father of your James?
