We're searching for information on James Allen Love, specifically proof of his father. Arthur Balch 5.James (Jim) Allen Love, b. 7/14/1859 ; m. Artemissia Elizabeth Spears 1878 in Belton, Tx.; d.11/101898 Hallettsville, Tx. Last man to die for cattlerustling in Lavaca County. (Artemissie was born in Hot Springs, Arkansas (we're also looking for Spears. Her parents: James Felix Spears & Symanthia Covington) [Here is where we have our parental problem. In a Hallettsville newspaper article, Jim Love's mother is listed as Nancy (Nan) Zumwalt, which is correct according to my relatives, and his father as Allen Love. We THINK but haven't yet proven that Jim's father is Joseph A. Love, who served with Hood's Brigade in the Civil War. Jim was quoted as saying his father did. But we have no proof that Jim was in fact Joseph Love's son. Joseph and Nancy were married 9/16/1859 in Fayette Co., Tx. Jim's birthday was 7/14/1859, which would have put him before the holy bonds of matrimony. There is a Joe Love listed as being born 1859 to Joseph Love and Nancy Zumwalt. Could the name have been written wrong, and really should have been James?] If Jim's dad IS Joseph, then the line continues thus, thanks to the work of a wonderful gentleman named Craig Holland: 6.
