Hi Everyone, Many years ago, abt. 1972, we recieved a letter from a woman from Connecticut. She was trying to trace any living descendants of her LOVE line as there was a Will in which a son, Mungo Duncan LOVE, went to Canada and they had no trace of him. I'm curious what happened with the search as this is what got me involved in genealogical research. We didn't match her line at the time but the similarities have helped me along the way. I believe I've found a link to my Restigouche LOVE line from Scotland. If you feel I can offer you more information, let me know. I'll write what I can from memory. My printouts are at work. In the 1851 Census of Ardrossan, Scotland (found on the Scotland's People site), I found these people who match the LOVE family of Restigouche County, New Brunswick, Canada from which I descend: Daniel LOVE , head of household, b. 1802-5 Elizabeth (female) b. abt 1815 Alexander (male) b. abt 1842 Charles (male) b. abt 1847 James (male) b. abt 1854 Mary (female) b. abt 1857 There are land grant records for a Daniel Love, Restigouche County (Dundee), New Brunswick. This is what I used to pin down the time of their arrival in New Brunswick. I haven't found any passenger records to indicate what ship they came on or what port they arrived in. They might have come through Montreal, QC or through St. John, NB. There is an Alexander LOVE and his family who were living here prior to Daniel. It looks as though they might have been cousins, or maybe even brothers. I haven't been able to definitevely match them though. There is also a McKinnon family living next door to them in Dundee in the 1881 Census. Daniel is not listed here. Elizabeth is listed as a widow and is living with James, Mary and Peter (two years old). James married Annie DEWAR, d/o Annie KERR and Alexander DEWAR (who were from Nova Scotia, Pictou area). This is my line. Their son, Daniel (b. abt 1885), was my great grandfather. They also had Duncan, Edgar (Teddy) and Eva (and maybe an Elizabeth who died very young). Mary married James TAYLOR. Mary and James TAYLOR settled in Dundee and had children. (I have a record.) Charles H. LOVE died in Restigouche County in 1916. That is all I know. I believe the H is for Hamilton but haven't confirmed it either. I can't find any marriage or children or even an indication of what he might have done with his life. This LOVE family were lumbermen and farmers. There is rumour of one being a school teacher but I've not been able to confirm it. He might have had another way of supporting his family as teaching wouldn't have been a very high-paying job in this rural area, I wouldn't think. There is a SMALLWOOD connection to Mary Duncan LOVE, d/o Alexander and Elizabeth or Isabella. This is the family I haven't definitively matched to mine. Although James LOVE and Annie DEWAR have a son who was named Duncan (my great-great uncle). Margo Love marglove@shaw.ca
