    3. My grandmother on my father's side is a Love. I am a girl and my last name is not Love. How could this genetic testing help me prove my Love line? Do you have to have the last name Love to get tested?? Lisa

    3. Hi Lisa - You need to find a LOVE - a brother to your grandmother or one of his sons - to be tested. This Y-DNA test is of some male dominant gene passed from father to son - much like the mitochondrial DNA is passed from mother to daughter. [I think I've got this right] If this is wrong - don't hesitate to speak up out there ... Love, Lou Lisa Shaffer <officmgr@sssnet.com> wrote: My grandmother on my father's side is a Love. She would be my mother's father's maternal grandmother. Apparently she and/or her family emigrated from Ireland in the 1820s or early 1830s, but to Canada. No chance for me to do DNA testing. But I do understand that she likely was Scots-Irish. To say, some of us have to do footwork (with paper). Best of luck, Carolyn
