    3. Hello, all. I have a Love ancestor who went by the spelling Love through the 1830's then in the 1840-1850 time span changed the spelling to Lauve (he was in the part of AR near the old Choctaw/Chickasaw Nations in the IT and near where some of the Chickasaw settled in AR). This was the time in which Col. Benjamin Love, US commissioner to the Chickasaw, and himself a mixed-blood Chickasaw was assassinated. I think it may have been a protection measure. There is no indication in our family that this family was French, although this spelling is definitely French. Does anyone else have this happen? My Thomas Love showed MD as birthplace on the 1850 census (where he spelled the name LAUVE). Three people that I am comfortable with as his children claimed a father's birthplace as MD, but the three I am positive where his children claimed ME. I find no evidence for either location and suspect it was actually MS, and that he may be Chickasaw. I have no proof of this, but there is much that points in that direction. I am looking at the possibility he is Thomas Love, Jr., son of Thomas Love, son of "English Bill" Love. My Thomas fits him perfectly and Thomas Jr. just seems to disappear after the Chickasaw muster roll of 1817 or 1819. My Thomas appears on the tax rolls in AR in 1827 just as the Loves and the Chickasaw are making their removal journeys to the IT. If anyone has a Thomas Love born in MD abt 1897 or so that went to AR and married a Margaret who was born in TN, I'd sure appreciate a heads up. Then I could settle this! Many thanks in advance. Happy time travels!
