Re: LOVE-D Digest V03 #116: > Ø We know where Christopher was in 1800, 1810 & 1830 and believe him to be > staying with his son on the 1840 census, but where was he between 1810 - 1830? ------------------- Regarding the above, from an earlier message which discussed the whereabouts of Christopher Love, son of John Love and Sarah Sharp -- I think I may be able to provide a few instances in which Christopher made an "appearance" in the records of Mecklenburg County, NC. Christopher was owner along with his brother David Love of property that they received as a bequest from their father. 1800 Deed from David Love & Christopher Love to Michael McLeary for 100 A of land dated 15 October 1800, proved by David Kennedy in 1818. 1802 +Christopher Love is included in a list of delinquents on the Tax List of the County of Mecklenburg. His name appears in the list for poll tax and for property tax. 1814 +August. Christopher Love is a member of the First Mecklenburg Regiment of Detached Troops. James Wilson, Captain. 1815 +Paw Creek. Listed in Capt. Hoover's Company of taxables: David Love. No land, no value, 1 WP, no BP. Christopher Love. No land, no value, 1 WP, no BP. 1816 +November. From the estate of Dr. Thomas Henderson of Charlotte Town, Mecklenburg County, his account record with entries dated 1816-1820. Christopher Love owes $2.85 on account for medical treatment. Re-entered under the heading "The amount that is in Lucky hands that cannot be collected." 1818 +Paw Creek. February. MCCofCP&QS, Book 6, p. 160. Deed from David Love & Christopher Love to Michael McLeary for 100 A of land dated 15 October 1800, proved by David Kennedy. I suspect that in the 18 intervening years between the sale of the 100 acres of land and the closing of the sale, David Love lived on the property and farmed it. Michael McLeary invested in property in Paw Creek, western Mecklenburg County. Apparently, Christopher was in Mecklenburg County around 1814-1815. He was perhaps present between 1816 and 1820. He must have left Mecklenburg County, making it unlikely that money owned to Dr. Henderson could be collected. At my website, I have published a complete timeline with sources for the above information. Donna J. Johnson Charlotte, Mecklenburg Co., NC http://www.mecklenburg.homestead.com/Index.html
