    1. [LOVE-L] DNA for LOVEs
    2. Hazel Stephens
    3. Dear LOVE listers, It is long past the time for sharing our "LOVE" story: Participant #9179 in the LOVE DNA Project is my first cousin. Bill Love, #8336, has shared with you the fact that he had an exact match with #9179. Likewise, Dr. Louis Love, #8302, matches our #9179 test results at ratio of 11/12 or 1 mutation difference. We are delighted to discover these new "Cousins," and, by sharing our data, we look forward to a successful search for our most common ancestor. I wholeheartedly agree with Rikki Love's suggestion and encouragement for up-grade to the 25-marker test. It is obvious that some of the LOVE participants could lower the number of generations back to their most common ancestor. Test kit #9179 WILL up-grade to the 25-marker test if others are interested. (My opinion about this is based on the great results which we received for my husband's participation in a 25-marker project for his surname.) To those LOVE listers who have NO connection or interest in my family: PLEASE ACCEPT MY HUMBLE APOLOGY for the detailed data which follows. (I am fully aware that I should have posted this data weeks ago on the LOVE DNA webpage under "Various Love Lines." Rikki's webpage contains a lot of helpful data.) To ALL OTHER LOVE listers who believe we can share helpful data: PLEASE feel free to e-mail me privately. LOVE FAMILY of Hazel (& Cousin Gerald) : {I} fa : Herbert Loyd LOVE, 1902-1976, Webster Co. SELDON Love, (was first burial, 1827, in Beersheba Presby. Ch. Cem., Lowndes Co. AL; buried in same plot with Jefferson P. Love, his wife, Elizabeth; AND an ISAAC LOVE ***, no dates.) {5} (UNPROVED gr,gr,gr-grnfa) : *** This ISAAC LOVE, is believed to be the grandson, ISAAC LOVE, of "old" BENJAMIN LOVE, 1723-1799, who wrote his will in 1793 in CHESTER Co. SC. Unfortunately, Benjamin DID NOT provide a given name for the father(s) of these two grandsons. The search for proof that "old" Benjamin is our ancestor has been ongoing and frustrating for more than FORTY YEARS. We have believed that Benjamin Love was closely related to James Love, "weaver." The DNA test results prove that we share a common LOVE ancestor with Dr. Louis Love, descendant of James, "weaver." The possibility exists that Benjamin (b.1723) COULD be a son of old James Love, BUT DNA test results obviously cannot provide this information. If William Love of Lunenberg Co. VA is Benjamin's father, does anyone know whether William and James, "weaver," are brothers? The Benjamin Love will of 1793 in Chester Co. SC was witnessed by William Love, William Love, Sr. and Frances Love (fe). Remains unclear as to who these LOVEs are and how they are related to Benjamin. Anybody know? All of the following brief story is substantiated with documents and/or records of many kinds, and existence of undeniable circumstantial evidence. Lack of extant Bibles, wills, marriage records, whether due to courthouse fires or other destructive means, however, has hindered any success in learning surnames of our females, or the name of Isaac Love's father. Benjamin Love's grandsons, Benjamin and ISAAC, were in NE GA in early 1800s. After 1810 Isaac and wife, Nancy, apparently went to TN, probably Knox Co.; in 1817 they were in MS Territory; and they were in St. Clair Co. AL from 1820 until after December 1824. Next they moved to Pickens Co. AL where Isaac died before the 1830 census because Nancy Love is shown as head of the family. Before 1840 she moved her family to old Choctaw Co. MS (the part which was later Webster Co.) Descendants of Benjamin Love, b.1776, know that he was, also, in St. Clair Co. AL after he left GA. He later moved to Greene Co. AL where he died in the early 1850s. Descendants have his War of 1812 pension records for service in GA Militia. His estate settlement papers were found in records of Greene Co., which is not very far south of the area of Pickens Co. AL/Lowndes Co. MS where Isaac Love had lived. Interestingly, names of those involved in the settlement of Benjamin's estate were some of the LOVEs and allied families from the Beersheba Presbyterian Church in Lowndes Co. MS! JOHN GASTON LOVE, son of "old" Benjamin Love, Chester Co. SC, came to Pickens Co. AL prior to the 1840 census. Names of members of John G.'s family were found in young Benjamin's estate papers. John Gaston Love's sister, Elizabeth Love, married Richard Love, a descendant of "Old" James Love, "weaver," and many of their descendants came to Choctaw Co. MS. Many of you are descendants of, or familiar with, Thomas Love, son of William Love, "English Bill," whose wife was a Chickasaw Indian. Many of the names Thomas gave his children are the same as those used by my LOVE ancestors, and these names have been passed down for several generations on numerous branches of our LOVE family tree. I believe there is a close connection between William Love, father of Thomas, and the LOVEs of Chester Co. SC. Was this William Love who was in PA in earlier years a brother of Alexander, Robert, James, "weaver," Benjamin, perhaps others? He didn't come down to SC until a few years after the other LOVEs. Love to all, Hazel LOVE Stephens Brandon MS [email protected]

    3. Hazel, No apologies are needed for sending genealogy to the Love list. Your letter was welcome and interesting. It is going to take many more letters to solve our mysteries and many more DNA tests, One thing that caught my attention was about your Nancy and Isaac going to TN probably Knox Co. That is where Joseph Love and Mary Teas Lived. Although Joseph died in 1804 Mary Teas Love was still alive until 1815 and also living there was Joseph's sons- Robert Love and his wife Jane Campbell, Samuel Love and his wife Mary Lane who were living in Knox County. My line was John Love and wife Orpha Dungan Love and they lived in Carter County. John Love owned land in Cherokee Co. AL. and His twin sons and his grandson William Snodgrass lived there. As for the Chickasaw Loves, One of Joseph Love's grandsons , William Calhoun Love, wrote in his journal. ; " I bought a few horses and took them by land to Mississippi. Traveled through the Indian nation called on two of my relations, half breeds by the name of Love, Henry and Slone, they treated me friendly as other travellers, but did not care to claim kin as the Indians only claim kin by the Mother's side. " William Calhoun Love thought that the ancestor of these men was a James but he was 89 when he was writing this, if I remember right. We know that the name was Thomas Love. If we want to play what if-- we might say " What if William C. Love just skipped over Thomas and William and reached back to a James?" But then, What if ,won't work for us. We have to get proof
