Erastus died between the 1880 and 1900 Census takings, and wife Katherine died 3 Jan. 1840 per the Red Bird Cemetery records (town of Ellery). Per the 1850 Census, the family was living in Charlotte, Chautauqua Co., NY. As mentioned in a previous post, Melissa married Orrin JONES. Margaret took the surname HORTON (since I have been unable to prove marriage) after having a child, Emery HORTON, with Charles D. HORTON. Charles was married first to Charlotte SHEPARDSON and when she passed away, he remarried to Philetta SALISBURY. Charles was married to Philetta both before and after the birth of Emery (abt. 1853). Margaret was living with Charles' former in-laws, Reuben and Roxy SHEPARDSON, as of the 1860 Census. Emery went with the Shepardsons to Lake Co., IL, and it is Emery who is my husband's gr-gr grandfather. Emery's middle name is Phelps, which als! o happens to be the maiden name of Roxy SHEPARDSON. Marvin LOVE was married to Mary L. BUCKLIN on 24 June 1857 in Fredonia, Chautauqua Co. I have been unable to determine exactly what happened to him, but the town of Ellery's historian notes that he died young, killed by a rolling log. Milton LOVE married Caroline M. COBB on 1 May 1861 in Shumla, Chautauqua Co. They settled in Corry, Erie Co., PA with their four children. And lastly, Merritt LOVE married Annie (maiden name unknown), and I don't believe they ever had children. The couple appear on the census through 1900 in Santa Clara Co., CA.

In 1860 Cayuga Co., NY there is a family with these same given names. He was 42 and she was 38. (the information I have shows a difference here because they were born in 1811 according to family trees online, so this may not be the same family.) However, this family does still have several children living at thome. James E. 17; Mary F. 15; Levi 13; Amelia 10; and Augusta 2 months.

Surnames: Love, Horton, Jones Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.love/1673.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: I am also looking for information on Melissa LOVE who married Orrin JONES. Per the 1860, 1870, and 1880 Census, the JONES family is living in Troy Twp., Crawford Co., PA. It was difficult to find them on the census because names were misspelled or misindexed due to poor handwriting. They came to Crawford Co. in the mid-1850's from Chautauqua Co., NY. I wrote to the Crawford County Historical Society, and they found no obituary or burial for either Melissa or Orrin in Troy. Per the 1871 Directory, there is Orrin JONES, insane, Troy. Per the 1874 and 1880 Directory, there is Orrin JONES, farmer, Troy Center. In 1890, there are no JONES. The original post on this message board states Melissa and Orrin are buried in Troy Center...is there some other way to verify this if the CCHS found no obituary or burial in their indices? My true interest is in the LOVE family...particularly Melissa's younger sister Margaret LOVE. They were the children of Erastus and Katherine LOVE! . My hope is that an obituary for Melissa exists, and it might name surviving family members, including siblings.
