    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: Lunarblaze Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.love/1215.1217.1429.1.2/mb.ashx Message Board Post: hey clovergirl032, I can answer many of your questions, it is my line too, and I have been researching it for a long time but there are still holes here and there but I think I have it pretty complete... Rootsweb wont let me contact you because your E-Mail address is showing as private, feel free to contact me for more info. This will get really long really fast, but basically James Harrison Love (AKA Capt. Harry) b.July 13, 1817 D. Nov 24, 1887 was married 3 times, (that we know of) Mary Polly Jamison was first, Mariah Sinclair (poss. St.Clair) was second, and Mary Louisa Cash Arnold was third. He had Many Many children, and traveled and did alot.. (Civil War, multiple companies, the California Gold Rush, California Rangers, etc..) His parents are William Cullen Love, B. Dec 25, 1794 D. 10 June 1891 and Sarah M Bryan B. June 12, 1794 D. July 28, 1860. William Cullen Love's parents were John Love, B. Scotland B. bef. 1755 D. ~1810 and Margaret Mary King ~1765-1838 I have more information on Margaret's parents, as well as Sarah M Bryan parents including a little on the Harrisons, (I am told the connection to the 2 Harrison Presidents is there, (Benjamin Harrison, and William Henry Harrison) but I have yet to find it.) etc, but as for John Love, (Scotland) it brickwalls there. The entire family seemed to be real big on education, and as far as I can tell the intelligence runs really high, everyone was able to read and write, many went on to higher learning and when William Cullen Love returned from the goldrush, (although not striking it rich, he did return with a fair amount of gold) he purchased a farm for himself, and paid for at least 2 of his grandkids to go through medical school. James Harrison Love, also went to California for the gold rush with his father and many friends. He stayed in California at the end of the rush, and because he did a great job with his militia to protect the gold camps, he was hired by the Los Angeles County Sheriff to band together the California Rangers, most notibly to hunt and kill the notorious bandit Joquain Murietta. Capt. Harry is credited with the death of Murietta, however he told the story (and would show off the scar from the bullet that Joquain Murietta shot at him) that he only killed 3 fingered Jack Garcia, and while aiming to shoot Murietta, he was shot, and his posse killed Joquain Murietta. The head of Joquain Murietta and hand of Jack Garcia were pickled in alcohol as evidence, The California Rangers got the reward money, and the head was destroyed in the fire following the great earthquake in San Francisco, California in 1906 and the hand of 3 fingered Jack Garcia ended up in a bar in New Orleans, Lousia! na on James Harrison Love's trip back home In California shortly after James Harrison retuns to Arkansas, (a costly journey at that time through the panama canal) family story says he used the reward money to travel, (I think he was looking for his missing uncle) then upon his return he purchased the other farm in St. Joe, Arkansas (he had 2 farms, one from before he left for California, and the one he purchased at or about the same time he returned. The one on the river became the state/federal park, and the other is where the Love family cemetary is located.)) ... and then there is a Henry Love, from Vermont,(or Virginia) (not related as far as I can tell) who was living in Santa Clara, California. He married Mary McSwain Bennett (The widow of the Lumber Millionaire Vardamont Bennett) She was as wild and as drunk as he was, and gave him money all the time, and he was a drunkard who got stabbed/shot in the armpit with his own weapon by Mary's bodyguard/lover. One of the bar stories he told said that he was the capt harry who got the reward money from the governor which he used to build a sawmill in the hills above Santa Clara. We found his grave, in Santa Clara, Ca. but were unable to locate the McSwain-Bennett Grave in Aptos, Ca. We also found the site of the sawmill in Ben Lomond, Ca. (it was destroyed in a mudslide) I am pretty sure there is no relation, but if you have information on him, I am keeping a record to cover all the bases. There are 3 John Love Families in Wilkes County North Carolina near the end of the 1700's, Our John Love was able to read and write, there is another john love who lived I am told 4 miles up the river, who was illiterate, (his father is james love junior, and his father is james love senior, and his father is yet another john love.) there is also another john love of african american descent living about 16 miles down the same river. I have William Milan Love B. January 29, 1826 D. November 22, 1833 so yeah, he died pretty young. (James Harrison Love has 7 brothers and sisters, so there is 8 including him.) In the records book, When John Love (scotland) died, and the will was read in 1810 his older kids moved out, and were on their own, but his two younger children were bound to other people, William Cullen Love (15 years old) was bound to Benjamin Martin and his younger brother James Love B. 1799 (11 years old?)was bound to Thomas Parks in 1810. William Cullen Love ran away from home, and went to fight in the war of 1812, he was a scout, but wasnt involved in the fighting. By the time he returned, James disappeared. There are MANY thomas parks families at that time, (almost like the name john smith now...) several moved, there are also many thomas parks Jr. and II and III and IV etc... any help here would be appreciated. I am told that when William Cullen Love was postmaster he sent letters everyday to try to find his younger brother. If you have family stories, or additional information, I would appreciate it. His household lists 3 males under 10, 1 male under 16, 1 under 26 and 1 over 45. Females are 3 under 10, 1 under 16, 1 under 26 and 1 under 45. 2. Ca. 1800 Wilkes County NC, there were two Love families ...both were named John Love. Do not know of others. John Love who was son of James Love II and married Martha James remained in the southern portion of Wilkes County. The other John's children all left Wilkes for (I think TN) in the early 1800's. I am wondering who might be the father of your James? What record do you have that ties your James back to Wilkes? > > From: "gc-gateway@rootsweb.com" <gc-gateway@rootsweb.com> > Date: 2007/04/04 Wed PM 04:44:45 EDT > To: <LOVE-L@rootsweb.com> > Subject: Re: [LOVE] capt JHL > > This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. > > Author: clovergirl032 > Surnames: > Classification: queries > > Message Board URL: > > http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.love/1215.1217.1429.1/mb.ashx > > Message Board Post: > > CAPTAIN JAMES HARRISON "HARRY" LOVE WAS MY GREAT GREAT GRANDFATHER...HE WAS BORN IN 1817 AND DIED IN 1887 BORN IN WILKES COUNTY,NC AND DIED IN ST JOE, SEARCY COUNTY, ARK...HE WAS MARRIED THREE TIMES AND I'M OFF THE BRANCH OF MARY LOUISA CASH...(YES WE ARE RELATED TO JOHNNY CASH) IF YOU WOULD LIKE MORE INFORMATION PLEASE LET ME KNOW...THANKS > > Important Note: > The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
