    1. [LOVE] DNA Testing was any more DNA kits?
    2. F Love
    3. Karen, There are a few services that provide DNA testing for genealogical purposes. Most people that have decided to participate in the Love DNA Project have chosen to go with Family Tree DNA (www.familytreedna.com). From the main website you go to the projects, choose L then scroll down to Love (also the link here should work, https://www.familytreedna.com/surname_join.aspx?code=B98332&special=True&pro jecttype=S). My husband decided to start with the 12 marker test, being unsure of the whole DNA testing and its results. I would go with the most markers you can afford, its cheaper in the long run. Pricing runs from $99 for the 12 marker to $269 for the 67 marker. You can also bump up the number of markers at a later date without retesting by just ordering refinement. Ensure you join the project through the group site so that you qualify for the group rate for a kit. The testing is easy, a kit includes what looks like a paper toothbrush that gets scubbed on the inside the cheek to provide the sample for testing. The instructions are pretty straightforward but should you have questions once you get your kit, please contact me. If anyone is interested, I can send a copy offlist. Was looking for possible relatives for my gg grandmother Elizabeth Love born Ireland ca. 1824, emigrated as a child to Ontario Canada likely in the 1830s. She died in April 1918, Hamilton Ontario Canada. My mother said she was told that Elizabeth Love was from Co. Cork, but I am not sure if that is the case. Methinks Loves in Ireland must have been from Scotland, and most of the Loves on the Griffiths Valuation are in Northern Ireland (they are necessarily landowners) (Tyrone, Donegal, etc.). 3. Does anyone know if Richard (Rikki) Eugene Love is still a member of this group. He is a direct male descendant of Christopher Love. Maybe Rikki would be willing to do a DNA test to see if his and my husband's line (he is descended thru Clara Isabella Love so does not qualify) connect with any of the other lines. Ida Boyce

    3. I know of two living Love men, both who have declined to participate in the DNA test. They are both descended from men of Coshocton and Knox Co., OH. Likely this Love clan was from Co. Donegal, Ireland. They are first found living in Linton Twp., Coshocton Co., OH ca 1800.

    1. [LOVE] Brickwall
    2. Shirley Love
    3. Okay, I just posted this a few days ago, but a little more information about our brickwall, Clinton Love who married Mary Elizabeth Stalker: The census records tell us he was born in NY, it is just a guess that it was Onondaga Co, nothing to confirm this. He lived in close proximity to the descendants of the brothers Adam and Gabriel, the immigrants from Antrim, Ireland. He moved from NY to WI in approximately the same time frame that some of those descendants made the same move, first into Waukesha Co, then into Rock County, and then into Jefferson Co. A photograph was found among some family papers of a Lt. Col. John H. Love (his rank is not verified, but his uniform has been described as one worn by a Lt. CoL.) One man says it may be pre-Civil war, He appears to be about 40 years old in the photo. A historian at Larned KS. tells of a soldier named Love who married a woman (possibly a Clinton) who died in childbirth in the early 1800's. He left the child with the woman's parents and returned to his post. He later married a woman from the south and never returned for his first-born. We have searched through Clinton census records hoping to find some clue. We think the photo of John H. Love may be a half brother of our Clinton, and we have found a John H, son of Richard Hindley Love, who might fit the bill. However, I have never found any records of Richard being the the service. Does anyone know anything about this family? Below is the data I posted earlier. I would love to hear from someone who has some information about this man. Clinton Love b. July 4, 1804 NY. ................... m. Mary Elizabeth Stalker ca. 1824 probably in NY. ....................d. Sept 22, 1874 in Jefferson, Monroe Co., WI ....................buried in Ridge Cemetery, Cashton, Monroe Co., WI.. Mary Elizabeth Stalker b.Aug. 21, 1808 in NY. in Albany County. .............baptized Sept 18, 1808, New Salem Ref. Church, Albany Co. NY ....................................d. April 26, 1889 in Sabetha, Nemaha, KS, ..................Mary was the daughter of John Stalker and Clarisa Bradt Stalker ....... Children of Clinton and Mary Elizabeth Stalker Love: .......1. Lucretia Love b. 1827 NY. married Nathan Codner .......2. Clariissa Love b. 1828 NY. married Gilbert Tuttle .......3. John Love b. 1831 NY. Civil War Casualty, married Polly Porter .......4. Rachel Jane Love b. 1833 NY. married James Phillip Erckenbrack .......5. Jeremiah Love b. 1835 Jefferson Co., NY. married Phebe Alvira Runyan .......6. George Washington Love b. 1837 Onondaga Co., NY. married #1 Fidelia King and #2 Caroline Amanda Rathbun Leigh (Civil War widow) .......7. Alida Love b. 1839 NY. married #1 Edwin Runyan Civil War Casualty and #2 Joseph Allbee .......8. Mary Lydia Love b. 1844 NY.married #1 Orvil Dickson Civil War Casualty and #2 David Quackenbush .......9. Henry Clinton Love b. 1848 Jackson Co., WI married Susan Palmer ......10. Albert Love b. 1850 Rock Co., WI.married #1 Abby Scovill and #2 Effie Travis My husband is a descendant of Jeremiah Love and his wife Phebe Alvira Runyan, through their son, George Delmore Love and Elizabeth Price Wolfe; and their son Ernest Michael Love and Beatrice Amanda Taylor. Our kit #11644 matches only one known cousin, but we have had close matches with other surnames including Foster and Gillespie. We think Clinton Love, our brick wall, may have been adopted or illegitimate. I would love to be proved wrong! Shirley Love

    2. Susan, I'm thinking the same thing! This is good that the list has been jump started, but it would be ten fold better if the lineage info was linked to the results page at the familytreedna.com site. Being a THOMAS, there are plenty of us on that family site. It is a really organized site. The results page includes DNA Haplogroup, Participant's name, and earliest KNOWN ancestor ... the preverbial 'brick wall.' The participant's name is a link. When clicked, up pops the participant's ancestrial chart back to their brick wall. This helps to make browsing and comparrison of different families a meaning search. Fred and Frances, I look forward to seeing the new LOVE family site! Let me know if you need any help with data entry ...would be glad to help out. Also, it is a good time for folks to point out what the see and what they think is good in other sites. Anyone else know of a good example of how our family site should appear and function? 3. Carolyn - Do you have anything that goes back to late 1600's or very early 1700's? OR do you have any suggestyions for finding those resources? My Loves were in Pennsylvania by 1725 & I feel sure they were here prior to that since two of them were active elders in the Faggs Manor Presbyterian Church. You just don't arrive one day and take that on the next day. They had to have been active in the community for a while. What do you think? ==================== The answer to your question is basically yes, to test the Love DNA you would have to have an unbroken MALE line. Once you have a female LOVE who marries someone not a LOVE then the test would be for the male's last name. This is of course providing that there have been no non-paternal events, etc. To test your line you need to trace back up til you get a male LOVE and trace their progeny to find a living male-male-male descendant from your line.

    3. Hi Ann, Lou Love here. My James Love [known as "the weaver'] was born in Scotland/Ireland in 1704/5 and came to Penn. bef 1725, with brothers John, Robert, William, & Alexander. I suspect Mom & Dad and other brothers & sisters came over as well - Just Don't Know! He brought his looms with him and still had them in South Carolina when he died and passed them on in his will. I have been unable to make any connection to the olde country. I've been unable to find the exact time or port of entry much less the departure port. James' son John was known as 'the tailor" Your Love weavers are an intriguing link. Thanks for the post, Good hunting, Love, Lou Louis E. Love, O.D. 1. [LOVE] LOVE Daniel 1851 Census Ardrossan SCT>1853? NB, Canada
    2. Love Ptak
    3. Hi Everyone, Many years ago, abt. 1972, we recieved a letter from a woman from Connecticut. She was trying to trace any living descendants of her LOVE line as there was a Will in which a son, Mungo Duncan LOVE, went to Canada and they had no trace of him. I'm curious what happened with the search as this is what got me involved in genealogical research. We didn't match her line at the time but the similarities have helped me along the way. I believe I've found a link to my Restigouche LOVE line from Scotland. If you feel I can offer you more information, let me know. I'll write what I can from memory. My printouts are at work. In the 1851 Census of Ardrossan, Scotland (found on the Scotland's People site), I found these people who match the LOVE family of Restigouche County, New Brunswick, Canada from which I descend: Daniel LOVE , head of household, b. 1802-5 Elizabeth (female) b. abt 1815 Alexander (male) b. abt 1842 Charles (male) b. abt 1847 James (male) b. abt 1854 Mary (female) b. abt 1857 There are land grant records for a Daniel Love, Restigouche County (Dundee), New Brunswick. This is what I used to pin down the time of their arrival in New Brunswick. I haven't found any passenger records to indicate what ship they came on or what port they arrived in. They might have come through Montreal, QC or through St. John, NB. There is an Alexander LOVE and his family who were living here prior to Daniel. It looks as though they might have been cousins, or maybe even brothers. I haven't been able to definitevely match them though. There is also a McKinnon family living next door to them in Dundee in the 1881 Census. Daniel is not listed here. Elizabeth is listed as a widow and is living with James, Mary and Peter (two years old). James married Annie DEWAR, d/o Annie KERR and Alexander DEWAR (who were from Nova Scotia, Pictou area). This is my line. Their son, Daniel (b. abt 1885), was my great grandfather. They also had Duncan, Edgar (Teddy) and Eva (and maybe an Elizabeth who died very young). Mary married James TAYLOR. Mary and James TAYLOR settled in Dundee and had children. (I have a record.) Charles H. LOVE died in Restigouche County in 1916. That is all I know. I believe the H is for Hamilton but haven't confirmed it either. I can't find any marriage or children or even an indication of what he might have done with his life. This LOVE family were lumbermen and farmers. There is rumour of one being a school teacher but I've not been able to confirm it. He might have had another way of supporting his family as teaching wouldn't have been a very high-paying job in this rural area, I wouldn't think. There is a SMALLWOOD connection to Mary Duncan LOVE, d/o Alexander and Elizabeth or Isabella. This is the family I haven't definitively matched to mine. Although James LOVE and Annie DEWAR have a son who was named Duncan (my great-great uncle). Margo Love marglove@shaw.ca

It is great if you put in the name Of your ancestor and maybe a date. I appreciate the activity on the list. It seems that people were not talking privately as much as I thought they were. Some people have posted who were not subscribed to the list. In some cases I have put them on the list, so if you suddenly start getting list mail and you don't want it... tell me. Mary

    3. Hi Pat - Lou Love here - As I understand the YDNA testing and results - The prime way that you get Love males not matching is they have a different lineage - they don't belong in the line into which they thought they were born. "Shoehorning" people and dates to make them fit often causes this problem. I've done it as a research tool at times in my "research database" just to see if I can make connections. It rarely works. However, through adoption, out-of wedlock births, adultery, or rape, someone who is NOT a Love, could be siring male children who claim the Love surname. That Really muddies the waters. Just some random wanderings of a feeble mind. Love to all, Lou Louis E. Love, O.D. One son, had 2 daughter; next son had 2 girls (1 living) and 2 boys (both deceased); next son had 3 sons (all living) and 1 daughter (living.) Another question??? John B. Love (1836-1915) md: #1 Catherine Phariss (1840-1866). Is Len Walker Love a child of John B. Love's first marriage or his second? If a child of Catherine Phariss, maybe we could check through my brothers DNA.....as Catherine Phariss, is of my fathers Phariss line. Which doesn't make much sense, but is a thought. Another thought: Hannah Elizabeth "Lizzie" Love's brother married into the Chickasaw Loves.....which goes back to William Love. I wish I could be of more help on this testing, but I'm sure because of the female line, the DNA testing is out of the question? What do you think? 1. [LOVE] George Love, Baltinmore, MD 1827
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: dehinten Surnames: Love, Smallwood Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.love/3646/mb.ashx Message Board Post: I believe I have tracked down my 3rd great grandfather, George Love who appears in the 1827 Baltimore City Directory as a "rigger". He is living at 60 Happy Alley just north of Alisanna St.(sic). He also appears as a "mariner" in the 1829 Directory residing on Ann St. just north of Alice Anna St. The tie between George and his son William (born about 1820-1830) has not been confirmed. William disappears around 1849, never to be heard from again. William's spouse Sarena Smallwood is listed in the 1850 census with their children (George, William and Mary) but they are all using the surname Smallwood. Sarena marries Hiram Norwood in 1851. The children revert to the Love surname by 1870. I am looking for any definite connection between Geroge and William and/or any information relative to William's disappearance and why Sarena may have reverted to her maiden name. Did William die, were they divorced, or did he leave Maryland for the gold fields of California in 1849? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.
