    3. George, The family you describe sounds like James Love, Sr. who m Elizabeth Crooke. He was b ca 1720 in Brunswick Co., Va. & d Stokes Co., NC. This is Pat Stubblefieds Line according to my notes. And no ties to my line that I've found yet. Son John m Ruth Crooke - son James Allison Love m Mary Elizabeth Ingram & d in Cabarrus Co., NC Big families with big families. Raised their own field hands I think! Later, Lou geothos@bellsouth.net wrote: Mickey, The following is not pertaining to the James Love family who moved from VA through Stokes to now Cabarrus along the Rocky River near where it crosses highway 24-27. Another James Love settled twenty years earlier about ten miles upstream on the Rocky River. His grant was a 1778 Sec. State land grant issued after usold lands of the deceased Arthur Dobbs were taken back by the state. Some of the land in this region was even granted back in the 1750's by Gov. Glenn of SC. This James Love owned land on the south side of Rocky River in the Rocky River Presbyterian Community about a mile west of where Hwy 601 crosses. John Love, (I believe to be son of James) owned land opposite the river from James Love. In the same day, a William Love received a grant for land on Goose Creek about 15 miles south. He had ties to Donnelson and others who moved on through SC. Note that the Catawba and Charleston highway crossed the Rocky River between where the early and later James Love settled. Many from the area moved out down the highway and settled from the Waxaws of SC to the Union County area. I have no idea that this LOVE family is linked to yours. But I do believe it was a large family that lived in Cumberland County NC prior to 1772. I also believe they moved into the Abbeville area of SC ca. 1784. Somewhere down the line, we should be seeing DNA results for this family. I wonder if any LOVE researches have looked into the Abbeville district Love family. 3. Oh, I won't ever give up! I have spent several days in Chester County and I thought I had scoured everything. Lou, I know your James and some of his sons had North Carolina land grants that turned out to be in South Carolina when the line was straightened out. Years ago I spent a summer in the Chester County courthouse digging through records there in order to try to prove a THOMAS family in Alabama were kin to David Thomas of Chester. Read every book in the moldy basement and did not find what I was looking for. On top of the eight foot cabinets that line the basement, there were piles of old court books. 3. Yes, Mickey - I suppose they could be the same - as you say, the borders were redrawn, more than once, if memeory serves. I have not personnaly researched that aspect, as you certainly have, so I accept the evidence - regardless of what I may [or may not] "know". I've not seen the grants, and with all the James', John's, William's, Robert's, etc around, I don't know how we seperate & identify them with any certainty - it just seems to be an accumulation of data that gives an overwhelming body of evidence that's convincing. So let's keep digging and adding to the evidence. Mickey, you've certainly added to that body of evidence with all the wills you've found, the land grants add to that. Census and tax records, church records, family bibles, & whatever else we can find to nail these folks down to a time and place all seperate and identify our roots. Wow - I'll get off the soapbox now !! Love, Lou Mickey Fournier <mwfournier@comcast.net> wrote: Oh, I won't ever give up! 1. [LOVE] MARY JANE LOVE 1815 TN
    2. A Mauldin
    3. Hello All. I am still trying to break the brick wall around my great-great grandmother, MARY JANE LOVE. She was born about 1815 probably in Sumner Co TN, and in 1846 married ALLEN JONES in Sumner Co TN (I have a copy of the certificate). Their first few children were born in Sumner Co TN and the family then moved to Butler Co Ky by 1860 when my great-grandmother, MARGARET E JONES was born. Margaret complicates my research by marrying another Sumner Co TN JONES boy, Isaac A. Jones in Butler Co KY in Sept of 1882 ( I have that certificate). So I have a LOVE wall and a double JONES wall. Can anyone help me with MARY JANE LOVE? The family was friends with Campbells, and Wrights. Also, Isaac's parents were WILEY JONES and MARY NEAL, who I believe to be the daughter of BRITTON JONES NEAL (yet another Jones family?) and ELIZABETH 'BETSEY' MCNEELY. I would be grateful for any ideas, suggestions, fantasies, ... 3. Lou: I have been watching the list daily but haven't posted in quite a while. I don't have anything new and I am pretty well convinced that the "proof" I need to tie John to English Bill will never be found. I have found a couple of references in Chester County to William Love's will...one mention in some land that one of John's son sold..but the will itself is not there. Given that Bill was a Tory, maybe the family just divided his property according to his wishes and didn't file the thing. I just pray that somebody somewhere is in possession of the original and that it will surface someday. Also, I am quite surprised that his property was not confiscated but, surprisingly, there is no record of that, either. Maybe it is because he had sons and grandsons who were Patriots? The history of that family will nearly break your heart! What they went through in that war was near unbelieveable. I know lots of folks are scared to death of having it proven they descend from English Bill. I may be the only one who hopes she is! Nice to hear from you. Are you okay? 3. Hi Alexis - I have several Mary Jane Love listings but none that I can match up with yours. I have 1 Allen Jones [No Dates] - parents are Cornelius Jones & Bessie Leitner. Her parents are in SC & Fla. - so don't think they're yours. 2. Fred, Have you searched the names "Josiah Perre or Perry" and "Joseph Crawford?" There was a Joseph Crawford who lived in Cabarrus not far from where the LOVE family lived. He is buried at Poplar Tent Presbyterian. During lunch today, I found the following on him: Crawford, Jamima of Cabarrus County, dau of Joseph Crawford, deceased, and Col. James A. Grier, formerly of Mecklenburg County on January 16,1849 in Marshall County, Mississippi by Rev. Daniel H. Clayton. Try googling up variants of those names in Cabarrus, SC, GA and NC. 3. In a continuing effort to break down my "Brickwall" I would like to contact anyone with Love family in Georgia. I'm hoping to find information about the 2 sons of James and Elizabeth Love and perhaps their descendants may know the birthplace of James and Elizabeth. James and family are listed in the 1830 US Census of Campbell County Georgia. I believe this is my James as his will was probated there in 1834. I have a copy of the will. He names Elizabeth as his wife and his 2 sons by her. They are Josiah Perre Love and Joseph Crafford Love. The census shows 1 male of the right age to be James, over 60 and under 70. One female is listed as over 40 and under 50. Two males are listed, 1 being under 5 and the other being over 5 but under 10. This fits with the will where James lists them as "my 2 young sons" where he gave them each one third of his estate and one third to his wife. Since Elizabeth was left with 2 sons under 10 years of age and she was under 50 it is safe to believe that she married after James died in 1834 and it may be that the sons were adopted or took the name of the man she married.
