This list has been far too quiet lately! I just found this is "The Mecklenburg Signers and Their Neigbors" by Worth S. Ray, p. 326. Can someone claim this family? John LOVE, his will. Proved in Mecklenburg County, July 23, 1791. Mentions his "beloved wife, Sarah" and the following children: 1. Jane REEMY 2. William LOVE 3. John LOVE 4. Mary ADAMSON 5. Thomas LOVE 6. Samuel LOVE 7. Joseph LOVE 8. Christopher LOVE 9. Sarah LOVE 10. Elizabeth Love BANKS 11. David LOVE, he and Christopher are left the plantation. Executors: Joseph TODD and James NEEL Witnesses: Michael STINSON and John CANNON. Ray continues: The records indicate that the LOVE family of this will, was of a different set than that of the Ephriam LOVE branch of Rutherford, Buncomb and western North Carolina, which was represented by Robert LOVE and Thomas LOVE of that section. These LOVEs were from Virginia to North Carolina, but settled in that part of which for a time was considered in Mecklenburg County, but later became Union County. The son David LOVE married the winsome lass Jean BLEWETT who used to ferry him across the PeeDee River when he was an Indian trader, she being the daughter of William BLEWETT and his wife Sarah GARTEN. David LOVE was Captain of a Company in the Revolution and was married to Jean BLEWETT, it is said in 1772 in Anson County. Capt. David LOVE was a rather eccentric character and sold out his interest in the plantation left him and his brother Christopher and moved to Greene Co., Georgia near the present historic town of Greensboro, where he lived and died. The place he owned there was known as "Love Springs" and Dr. T. B. RICE has written an interesting story about that spring and the old soldier. Some insight into David's character may be gained from the unusual names he bestowed upon his children, as shown by his will, dated November 27, 1798 and proved in Greene County. In the will he mentions his wife, Jane and the following children: 1. Robertus LOVE 2. Josephus LOVE 3. Achsan LOVE 4. Virtuous LOVE 5. Beloved LOVE (male) 6. Chaste Easter LOVE 7. My cousin David LOVE, who now lives with me, 100 acres in this county, surveyed by George PHILLIPS and joining William PHILLIPS of Virginia. I'm stuck in Anson County, North Carolina. Searching for any information on David Love born abt. 1740. He left home at 16 years old, lived with the Cherokee Indians for a time, trapping. He sold his pelts and went to England for a time (returning in 1763?). He married Jean (Jane) Blewitt of Bladen County, North Carolina in 1772. He was 32 yo and she was 16 yo. David Love was a Revolutionary War officer with the North Carolina line. He was a Lieutenant Colonel or Colonel upon completion of his service. I have more information at home. I do know that Clinton married Mary Elizabeth Stocker from Holland, New York, and they had the following children: LUCRETIA LOVE (born 1828/died 1850) Twins? CLARISSA LOVE (born 1828/died n/a) Twins? JOHN LOVE (born 1831/died 1864 in Civil War) RACHEL JANE LOVE (born 1833/died1876) JEREMIAH LOVE (born 1835/died 1920) GEORGE WASHINGTON LOVE (born 1837/died1914) ALIDA LOVE (born 1839/died 1929) MARY (LYDIA) LOVE (born 1844/died n/a) HENRY CLINTON LOVE (born 1848/died 1933) ALBERT LOVE (born 1850/died 1939) In the early 1840�s the family migrated from New York, west through Ohio and settled for awhile in Wisconsin where Clinton died in 1874, and is buried in Ridge Cemetary, Clinton, Vernon, Wisconsin. Mary moved on with her son JEREMIAH LOVE (my great-grandfather), to Brown County, Kansas, where she died in 1889 and is buried in Sabetha, Nemaha, Kansas. From there, JEREMIAH LOVE took his sons, GEORGE and FRANK LOVE to make the land run in Oklahoma known as the �Cherokee Strip� in 1893. JEREMIAH, GEORGE and FRANK LOVE all settled on farmland near Blackwell and Braman, Oklahoma, in Kay County. Some of the Loves lived/settled in Ohio, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Montana, and Kansas and I�m pretty sure that a few never left New York. No telling where they have scattered by now! Most of my immediate family is still living in Oklahoma. I am located in California. If anyone recognizes any of these or the following names listed below, we are probably from the same LOVE line. John Love b. 1786 County Cork, Ireland, d. bef 1860 in Maine. He and wife Elizabeth came to Canada first and then emigrated to Maine sometime before 1847.
