There has been some confusion (at least in my mind) about the children of Robert Love. In his Lancaster Co., PA, will of 1741, he listed the following children: Robert John William Joseph Thomas Yet I have seen the following listed as Robert's children: James (to SC) John (in PA) William (in PA) Robert (to SC) "possibly" Alexander (to SC) Thomas (in PA) Joseph (to VA) Samuel (to VA) Jean Mary Since some believe the son John listed above in the Lancaster Co. will was my John of Chester Co., PA, nearby, and because of the additional children attributed to Robert, I did the following analysis for Lancaster & Chester Co. By the way, often a Love served as an executor or witness to a non-relative's will, so their being mentioned below does not necessarily mean they inherited anything. I looked through my listing of wills for Lancaster & Chester Co., PA, as well as Rev. War. PA militia records. LANCASTER CO: During the Rev. War, the following Loves serving in the militia from Lancaster Co. were: HUGH & THOMAS. Loves listed in wills from early Lancaster Co. that I have found were ROBERT's above, and Robert Glen's of 1761 whose executor was THOMAS Love. [Source for Rev. War Rcds: http://www.digitalarchives.state.pa.us] CHESTER CO: During the Rev. War, the following Loves serving in the militia from Chester Co. were: JOHN, SAMUEL, THOMAS. There is a website that lists thousands of PA men who served in the PA militia during the Rev. War: http://www.digitalarchives.state.pa.us. I have copied the first name of all the Loves. Keep in mind that militia volunteers usually did so for 3 months at a time, not like the Continental Army with fancier uniforms and who enlisted sometimes indefinitely. The militia was primarily to defend one's own county, tho they could go to other counties or even other states if they wanted to volunteer their services elsewhere. Those below with no county listed were often officers or it was just a pay slip. Bengaman - Phila. Benjamin - Phila. I only have my Love family back to ca 1750 and that is in County Tyrone Ireland. The family had been there about 50 years, coming from somewhere in Scotland.
John & Jean Love had a son, Alexander, 1782 in Kirkinner. We were thinking this may be the same Alexander that married Jane Mark and raised their family in Kirkcowan, Wigtown, Scotland. Anthony Stewart Love was the son of Alexander & Jane, born in 1818. Anthony was my gggrandfather. We found him in Missouri in 1850. Any connections on this for anyone? ----- Original Message ----- From: <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Sunday, February 23, 2003 5:03 AM Subject: LOVE-D Digest V03 #34
