The original Robert Love's son, William, was killed 1780 at his home in SC dur. the Rev. War., along with his son James. His son Thomas escaped to MS where he married into a Chickasaw tribe. I went and got this information from Family Tree DNA project website: Family Tree DNA SURNAME PROGRAMMany people have asked about using Family Tree DNA’s services as a tool for Surname projects. We perform this service all the time and have established a protocol that allows us to transfer the routine data management tasks to you and, thereby, reduce the cost of the testing. You may either join a project in progress, or start a new one. To start a new project, follow the instructions below. Here are the elements necessary to start a project: A minimum of 6 participants is required. Choose a Group Administrator who will handle the data management of your family's Surname Project. The Group Administrator will be Family Tree DNA's direct link to your project. The Group Administrator will have access to a secure page where your project's status is updated daily. Family Tree DNA will distribute legal release forms allowing for the sharing of the test results with the Group Administrator. Test kits and payments may be submitted individually or as a group to FTDNA for processing. Test results will be returned to the Group Administrator as they are received by the office. Each participant will also receive a certificate and report containing their personal test results. The staff of FTDNA will help you interpret the meaning of your test results. Hello there once again... One question about the project that everyone, including myself has been discussing. Would there be a webpage built where all of the information would be accessable to all Love researchers? My other line that has been doing this has a dedicated webpage just for the results on all of there tests. There are no names given on the donors of the DNA, just the test number and from who they descend. If you want to get in touch with the donor to get information you have to go through the administrator of the project. They then in turn contact the donor to find out if it is ok to give their contact information. I have built several websites, and would be more than willing to help anyway I can on this venture. Why don't you contact the DNA organization's web site and ask them about this (not permission, but opinion)? I know they promise to keep everything extremely confidential, only letting out info with the permission of the DNA donor family. Part of their success is their confidentiality. Sounds like a good idea, though. Maybe our webmaster would put your web page as a tag at the bottom of our Love List page. Katheryn [email protected] wrote: Hello there once again... That site I gave everyone a few days ago has the price list. It can be upgraded later for the dif. in price if you get a close and not-sure match. However, I think most are getting the 12-marker test. Of course our children and grandchildren think our hobby is a waste of time! Our curiosity is one thing that's not necessarily inherited! But surely some of our Loves have yuppie children who have two houses, a car for everyone, go out to eat all the time, only designer clothes, etc. (I adopted mine and they're not yuppies.) Even if they're not interested, just (as the patriarch or matriarch of the family) go to them and tell them, "Hand over $125 and don't ask questions." They might be so amused at the brashness and senility being exhibited, they'll actually do it. Or say, "I want $125 for my next birthday (or Mothers/Father's Day) and I don't care how you get it." Or tell them the next time you fix their favourite meal ~ or go fix their plumbing, or watch their kids ~ it'll cost 'em. If they don't come across, go out on their lawn in their plush neighborhood and set up a lemonade stand! If some of the older Love men in our list would say, "Yes, I'd be willing to do the test," then others with yuppie children/grand children would be inspired to get busy and find the money to do it. Coniving Katheryn Bird <[email protected]> wrote: I agree with you. If we can get a start then more men might join and we would get several family lines sorted out. As I understand it from seeing what is going on with other surnames. FTDNA is the best place to have this DNA study for Genealogy done. I think if one had about 6 men named LOVE who want tested the price is around $161. One may think that is a lot of money and it is true that some people would find paying that much impossible but others might like to know the results enough to make small donations toward someone taking the test. If we really want to know which of our Loves were brothers or if we share a common ancestor, I see this as the only way we will find out. Think of it, we are talking about finding some information about something that happened 300 years ago that has not been found before. I just sit like a sponge rather than a genealogist. I collect what other people find. Many of the people that lived a hundred years ago or longer took the time to write things about their families and we have what they wrote and we still don't know who is related to who. Are we likely to find out in the next 50 years? I doubt it unless we do DNA. No as listowner, I am not allowed to write many email like this one to the list but I suggest that some of you men with surname Love start talking together. Maybe you can figure out something <G> Someone has to be in charge, someone has to contact FTDNA and make arrangements. Personally if a group of you choose to do this, I can be counted on to make a donation. Remember one has to have some sort of paper trail that seems to lead them to one of the men we think might be brothers. Now like Schultz--- I am not here, I did not say this, I see nothing. Hi Mickey, Good to hear from you, "Cuz". Hope all is well with you & yours. Here's to more answers to the questions from the gene pool. Love, Lou
I am in agreement with Lou's belief that these five are brothers...if for no other reason than they all lived in the same area and had a good many associates in common. For instance my John (d. 1799, presumed son of William) named an executor of his will who was a witness to the will of the other John (d. 1802) and there are many, many other instances like that. As would everybody, I would like some firm "proof" but sometimes "circumstantial evidence" stands up in court and it may be the best we can do. And, by the way: Hi, Lou! No one seems to know anything about Thomas, the son of Robert (b.c. 1700). Some have said he was the one who married M. Guthrie, but that was Robert's grandson thru son John. However, look at this: 1741: "I appoint that my son Thomas shall live with his Mother & the Rest of the children During pleasur att the Dureation of my Exort(?)." A, Vol 1, pg. 61] I found a Thomas Love of Lancaster Co., PA, from Revolutionary War records who might have been a grandson (thru William, James or John). On the other hand, if Thomas who was to live with his mother when father Robert died (according to will) and he was born c. 1740 just before the will was made out, he would be 35-40 years old during the Rev. War. In that case, this could be Robert's son. 1777-80, private, Lancaster Co., 7th Btn, Co. 5. First, there are various lists of old Robert Love's wives & children. Some have more sons than others, and some have dtrs (dif. dtrs. at that). And now I'm finding two wives' names. I'd like to know the documentary source of those wives since I do not include direct ancestor data that hasn't been proven. Now, re. his children. I have gone through Robert's children and grandchildren trying to figure out more closely when they were born (we have the sons' names in his will), plus a few others (perhaps minors so not mentioned in the will). First, these are the birth years I have come up with: John, b. 1704 Thomas, b.c. 1708 Robert, b.c. 1713 Joseph b.c. 1728 Samuel b.c. 1734 Now I will tell you how I came up with these birth years. First, I think most men married around age 25 (from past research on others); so if I had a marriage date, I counted back 25 years. Second, if mar. date was unknown but b/d of oldest child was known, I added 1 yr (1st yr of marriage) to the approx. age of 25 when married. Thus 26 yrs. Third, sometimes one grandson had an actual birthdate listed (from a tombstone or family Bible?) and, assuming child lists were in birth order (usually), I allowed 3 years between children. Although most women back then gave birth every 2 years, allowing 3 years made room for children who had died or dtrs. that may not have been mentioned, the father being off at war, etc. Fourth, if wife's birth year was known, I counted forward 20 years (most married older than we think they did back then) for her marriage year, and one more until the oldest child was born. JOHN-1705 His actual birth date is known, I believe from his tombstone. THOMAS-c.1708: Nothing on him, tho some people say he is the Thomas who married M. Guthrie; but that was John's son & a grandson of Robert. So, I just gave him a birth date to fill in between proven John and Robert. ROBERT- c.1713: He was married in 1738. So, taking age 25 from that, gives him a close birth year of 1713. Plus son #6 Hezekiah was b. 1752, and working back 3 yrs between sons still gives him a birth year very close to 1713. JOSEPH-c.1728: Son #1 Rbt. was b. 1754. Son #2 Wm. was m. 1785, giving him an close birth year of 1760. Son #4 David was b. 1763. Counting back 26 yrs (age 25 at marg. & 1 year to have 1st child) from Son #1 Robert's birth is 1728. WILLIAM-c.1729: Grandsons through son #2, Thomas, started with gr son #1 Henry b. 1784. Counting back 26 yrs gave Thomas' birth c.1758. Counting back 3 years for son #1 John to be born (c. 1755). Then counting back 26 years gave William's birth at c.1729. SAMUEL-c.1734: He was married 1759, so I counted back 25 years. JAMES?-c.1703: I haven't accepted him as a proven son yet, but if you want to include him, son #2 (John)'s son John was b. 1755. And son #3 (James Jr)'s dtr. Jane was m. 1785 giving her a birth year of c.1765, and her father a birth year of c.1737. Allowing 3 years between each child, and the first yr of marriage and age 25 at age of James' marriage gives c. 1703. ALEXANDER?-1718: I haven't accepted him as a proven son yet either, but his birth year (tombstone? family Bible?) is known. This sounds complicated, but if you will sit down with your family group sheets and count back allowing for births and marriages, it should work out the same way for you. What about possible dtrs? I've run in to Dorcas, Mary and Jean. If you want to include them, fit them in between Robert, Joseph and Samuel. I think this method is a more educated guess.
