    1. [LOVE-L] A New Joseph Love?
    2. K Haddad
    3. Here's an interesting twist. I looks like "Joseph the Fuller/Tailer" in Augusta Co., VA, b. 1728 & d. 1804, might have had a father named Joseph. I found this on the Augusta Co., VA, genealogy site: 1758: Nov. 16, "Orphans of Joseph Love, decd, to be bound by Church Wardens." [Source: Scotch-Irish in VA, Vol. I, Order Book V, Item #213, http://www.rootsweb.com/~chalkley] 1766: Aug. 26, "John Love, orphan of Joseph Love, dec'd., to be bound to Joseph Love, Fuller." [Source: Scotch-Irish in VA, Vol. I, Order Book X, Item #311, http://www.rootsweb.com/~chalkley] I have found several who never did think this Joseph was the son of Robert Love in Lancaster Co., PA. I think a trip to the Augusta Co. courthouse and deed search would reveal where Joseph lived before moving there. This is not my direct line. I just want to keep track of people thought to be the brothers of my JOHN LOVE, father of THOMAS LOVE, father of JOHN LOVE who d. Knox Co., TN 1834. 3. I would be interested in this project, too. I am a descendant of a man named Chastine/Chastain T. Love. I am unsure as to whether this is his real name, but that is the one on the marriage contract posted in North Louisiana in about 1896. His info on the census says he was born in North Carolina and his parents were both from Ireland. I have my doubts as to whether the aforementioned was his real name, but I have to go with what I found on the Louisiana Census. I know my grandmother always said we had relative in NC, Mississipi, Alabama and I think Texas. My grandfather's name was William C. Love which seems to be a reallly common name for many Love lines. 1. [LOVE-L] LOVE DNA PROJECT
    2. Hello all!!! This is Rikki LOVE (not Lake), and I am trying to figure out just how I volunteered? hahaha I guess by my wanting to do it so bad led me to be the administrator. OK, if that is what everyone wants, I will give it a whirl. I can not promise anything, but I have already emailed FTDNA for information, as has Dr. Lou Love. Dr. Lou has since forwarded this information to me. I at this time have an e-mail in to Bennett Greenspan (president of FTDNA) asking for additional information on the project. I am now awaiting his response on this matter. I do at this time ask for help in this venture, until I can get it all sqaured away. We do need to find and enlist at least 6 LOVE males to get the ball rolling. If we have 6 males and committ to a minimum of 6 test kits, the price will go down from $125 to $99 per test. Next we need to set up some type of donation process to get monies together to help those that can not afford to pay for the test, or pay for the whole thing. We would after these things have been set up, get the word out that we are into this, and are asking for LOVE men to test and find from what line they come. Ladies, you can not test, but your fathers, brothers, uncles, cousins, etc... surely can. As long as their surname is LOVE and they come from and unbroken line of LOVE's they are able to test. Also any lady that has LOVE heritage, but does not have a LOVE connection close enough to test, I ask that maybe you give a little donation to help with this project. I have already received several interested males about getting involved with this project, and I believe with a little more persistance from us all, we can and will have this up shortly. Anyone with any questions, PLEASE e-mail me at [email protected] or you may even call me at home at 662-494-9432. (if you do call me at home, who ever answers the phone, you better tell them that it concerns genealogy, if not none of daughters will give me the phone. For some reason they think that it is their phone... hahaha) Also, I had mentioned in a previous e-mail about a website. I have already begun the process of putting one together, and will let everyone know when it is about to go up and online. I will not release it to the public until the main oneS involved in this have had a chance to go over it and see if there are any changes that they feel should be made. Sorry about the lengthyness of this note, but I felt that these were issues that should be discussed before the project could move any futher. Let's wish ourselves GOOD LUCK, and a little for me wouldn't be to bad either. <G> Let me know all of your thoughts on this matter. Rikki Love,GGG-Grandson of William Hiram Love 1801, NC - 1885, GA

    1. [LOVE-L] Giving Credit where Credit is Due
    2. K Haddad
    3. Many people copy the research of others w/o giving them credit, and it spreads from there with no one knowing where it came from or if it is even true. I have seen the following quoted by many w/no credit where it was due. Read below. I encourage everyone who has this in their records to give credit to Arthur Dobbs who wrote it back in 1958. Then at the end I have some questions: The following is from an old photocopy on thermal paper of a periodical, April 1958, pg. 7, by Arthur Dobbs: "Robert Love, it is thought came from Ireland about 1737, which is the year given by Albert Cooke Myers in his book on the Scotch-Irish in York County, Pa. for the date or probably the date of arrival of Alexander [not a proven brother] of York, Pa. and later York Co., S.C. or it may be 1744. The Pennsylvania Archives has an item in Vol. I, 5th Series, which gives the arrival, among others from Scotland, at Newcastle, in 1744-1765, of Robert Love a 'smooth faced, bold looking fellow'....It is impossible from the information we have on hand to identify this Robert as the one who married Violet, the daughter of Robert Wilson, at the Forks of the Brandywine in 1738. "This fact has been preserved to us in the family Bible of Hezekiah Love, an applicant for a Revolutionary pension, a page from which Bible is attached to his pension application filed in Washington 24th July 1832, in Roane Co, Tennessee.... "Robert senior died in Lancaster County [S.C.] in 1786....He had a land grant from His Majesty George III, in the vicinity of the Hanging Rock & Flat Rock....for 163 acres on Hanging Rock Creek approximately fifteen miles south of Camden, and was dated 23rd of April 1762. It must have been about this time that Robert & Violet moved from Chester to this part of what was then Craven County [District], a county which was abolished a few years afterwards. "Chester Co. also lay in Craven Co. [District] until the Scotch-Irish from Pennsylvania under the leadership of Alexander Love were successful in h aving legislation passed providing for the erection of the counties of Lancaster, Chester and York, and Fairfield out of the territory in the Piedmont section bordering on North Carolina which had been previously a part of Craven County, and known as 'the New Acquisition.' " ========= Also on the same page of that journal is this LAND GRANT BY KING GEORGE III TO ROBERT LOVE: "George the Third by the grace of God of great Britain France and Ireland, KING defender of the Faith &c TO all to whom these presents shall come GREETING. "KNOW YE That we for and in consideration of the Rents and duties herein Reserved have given & Granted and by these presents for us our heirs and successord di give and grant unto ROBERT LOVE a tract of Land containing one hundred and sixty three acres lying and being in the County of ANSON in our Province of North Carolina [later claimed by Camden Dist., S.C.] on Both sides of Hanging Rock Creek Including his own improvements Beginning at a Red Oake on a ridge that runs Thence So. 15 degrees W. 130 poles to two Black oakes Thence So. 75 degrees 200 poles to a Hickory Thence No. 15 degrees E. 130 poles to a Red Oak Thgence No. 75 degrees W. 200 poles to the Beginning "As to the Plat hereunto annexed doth appear TOGETHER with all Woods Waters mines minerals hereditaments an appurtenances to the Land Belonging or appertaining (one half of gold and silver mines excepted) "TO HOLD to him the said ROBERT LOVE his heirs and assigns forever as of our MANOR OF EAST GREENWICH in our COUNTY OF KENT in free and common soccage by fealty only. But now I think it is from "The Love Family Historical and Genealogical Quarterly" for April 1958. Would someone with access to these verify this and what volume it would be? Question 2: At the end of this page (seven), it says "Continued on page 8." Could someone check to see what is on page 8? Question 3: Does anything on page six relate to this article? 1. Re: [LOVE-L] DNA Project ???
    2. K Haddad
    3. If different branches of Loves got the DNA test, they would know whether they were related or not. You could then know that the Love line in a particular state is the direction you should go in. However, this should be balanced with your own documentary research too. Start with what you know. You know his name and when/where he died. Order his death certificate which will probably tell when/where he was born and his parents' names. Order his marriage license which will give you his wife's (your grandmother's) maiden name. Go to your nearest large library or call your nearest Mormon (LDS) Church and ask when you can go there to read census records. Pick the census of where you know he lived at his youngest possible age and work back in time. Eventually you'll find him as a little boy living in the household of his parents and you will then have another source for your gr grand parents' names. Once you know the gr grandparents' names, do the same kind of research on them. I started researching nearly 40 years ago and started this same way. Your grandfather has public records on him; look for them. Even the cemetery office where he was buried will have records; and the funeral home; and his obituary; a family Bible; a distant aunt. And yes, trace his siblings since they had the same parents. I've had a brick wall on a dif. side of my family for 35 years ~ my father's side. I did all the above. I found my grandfather, great grandfather and great great grandfather. But never was able to get past him. I even traveled to the counties and states where they all lived and went through couorthouse marriage books, deed books (the first deed in a county tells where he lived before moving there), will books, court books, guardian books. I went to the state capital and went through their archives for the area in which he lived. I went through land grant records for that state and military records. I have found no proof of that great great grandfather. They were living next door to each other, etc., etc., but that's not proof. My only hope on that side of my family is to request that my brother & others with that last name do DNA tests, and perhaps with the circumstantial evidence I have, it will satisfy the proof requirement. (And I don't accept things just because they're in a book; books are written by people and dependent on how much the author researched and what documents the author is willing to tell that were used ~ which most authors don't do.) So, keep researching so you have some circumstantial evidence to go with the DNA matching.
