Hi Mary, Thanks for the effort on the DNA results. My first quick review is a disappointing one ( altho' ol' cuz Lou was a pleasant surprise). Let me put these numbers in some readable format and work some "ststististcal" magic on them to see what they say. I agree with Greenspan's assesment that at this point a 25 pointer will be to no avail. Who knows what might come of an analysis (altho' I suspect that Greenspan has done one already)? Only The Shadow knows!! Bill Love
I'm retired and can't afford it either. But I requested donations for my birthday. I'll do it again at Christmas. My relatives think I'm a little nuts, but giving me money is easier to do than shop for a gift (for which my male relatives are particularly grateful). My brother thinks I'm nuts too, but he consented to do the test "as long as I don't have to go anywhere to do it." That's because he loves me, not because he's at all interested in the DNA. Do you have a male first cousin? That would work too. Katheryn Lynda Grierson <[email protected]> wrote: Hi, I am interested in all this new DNA testing, however, as a female I can't participate in this type of testing, I was interested in having my husband's DNA tested [for another family] and then discovered the price...being in Oz I would basically have to double the price....perhaps when the cost of such tests come within reach of some of us, then other's will be able to participate.. Before we all go jump off a cliff let me say more. First off the surname LOVE is about the 6th most common name in America. Second off only 8 tests were done so far. While this seems to indicate that none of us are related it isn't necessarily true. We need more men to do the 12 marker test. I don't know about your Love family but mine were not to particular about who's wife or daughter they made babies with. Sorry but that is the way it was. So we have a few wood colts and then this group is just not big enough to represent so mam lines of LOVE. It may be that each of us need to go back over our genealogy generation by generation. What do we know for sure. What do we have proof of. Wills, tax lists, Tombstones, Obits, Census, military records. Church records. Then weed out what we think may be true. Personally for me, it may be hard for me to get back 5 generations although I think I can get that far. This study so far is messing up lots of our old source records like Kara Koldiron's Book, maybe Ray Worth Tennessee cousins. Maybe Jolee Love's book, maybe William Calhoon Loves Journal? We need to assess the damage. and Recruit -recruit-recruit---- I remember how some of you guys look. Gene Love looks like a younger version of my Grandpa. Lou in Houston doesn't favor a one of my Loves. Bill Love in La Porte TX again favors my grandpa. Slight built with white hair. I don't think it proves anything since Gene and Bill are from two different lines. Mary Harkey Russell [email protected] http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~bird
Lou: This is Bill Love in Galveston. I am # 8336. According to what Mary sent, you and I are exact matches on 11 of the 12, and are one off one the other. Yet she says that the tester says that none of the seven tested are related. I still think the photos I saw of your dad in the Houston paper a number of years back really resembled my dad and me, in fact looked like brothers. I cannot really say for certain if my ancestors are related to yours. But they lived in the same area of SC as yours lived, I think. Also, my ancestor John Love went to the same area of Madison Co. MS where Robert Love, a son of Alexander Love of SC went to. They were there at the same time. And Alexander Love was, I think, related to your ancestors. Bill Love of Galveston.
Hello all: #8302 is Louis Love of Houston, TX. My line goes back to James Love, "the Weaver" and Martha ?-------? His son John Love, "the Tailor" and Martha Drennan - 1730-1802 '' Capt. James Love and Jane Lockert - 1763 - 1807 " John Lockert Love and Amelia "Millie" Horton - 1792 - 1836 " Elvin E. Love and [3rd] Frances Caroline Turnipseed " James M. Love and Mattie Dean " Charles E. Love and Dorothy Holloway " Me! Hope this helps someone! Love, Lou
>This study so far is messing up lots of our >old source records like......, maybe Ray Worth >Tennessee cousins. I don't know about LOVE in the book, but do know that the book as a whole is considered to be a very unreliable source. I know from first hand experience on a different line listed in that book, that it confused and combined records of different men of the same name. Rick Saunders http://home.netcom.com/~fzsaund/love.html
Test # 8336 descends from John Love, b. August 22, 1808 in South Carolina, whose father was John Love, mother was Mary Dickson (Dixon?). John Love who m. Mary Dickson reported had a brother Joseph, who had 9 sons and lived on the NC/SC border. Test # 8336 would like to know ancestor of #8302 who lived at about the same time, early 1800's.

I will only put the test # and not a person's name. Test # 8299 13 22 14 10 13 15 11 15 11 12 11 28 Test # 8313 13 24 13 10 11 15 12 12 11 13 13 31 Test # 8336 13 24 14 10 12 14 12 12 11 13 13 29 Test # 8302 13 24 14 10 12 15 12 12 11 13 13 29 Test #8439 13 25 15 10 11 14 12 10 10 13 11 30 Test # 8456 14 13 14 11 12 14 12 12 11 13 13 29 Test # 8821 14 23 15 11 15 17 11 13 11 13 12 30 So what do we do now. Who is smart enough to tell us if the only two tests that came closest . Only missed one number 8336 and 8302, So what does your genealogy say? Do you see any quick connection. I will fink and say that test # 8299 is from a male descendant of Joseph Love/Mary Teas. I expect feedback on the list At some point we have to identify the people-- not the one that did the test but which test went to which ancestor/ Otherwise this has all come to zilch. People who choose to use some of these things are going to miss out on all genealogy lists. This is what was said in a letter I just got: It is from a member of this list. I can' not reply to her since I won't reply to Mailwiper. She won't get the mail , since rootsweb won't respond to Mailwiper. Oh Well ! ' In an effort to eliminate junk email, I am using Mailwiper.Mailwiper has placed your message safely on hold. Please reply to this email and send it to me so I can add you to my eMail address book and we will be able to communicate freely from now on. Neither I nor rootsweb will reply. I can't and they won't. If someone wants mail they should leave this stuff out of their machines. Mary Harkey Russell [email protected] http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~bird
I thought when I sent that letter to both FTMdna and the Love list that you could see that I had?? Guess not. If the members of those tests that we don't know about trust me enough to send me their numbers. I will compare them privately and let people know if they match. Otherwise we can wait for a reply from FTMdna. For those of you interested. From what I gather the 12 marker test is not that great. The 25 marker test is what most people are doing. A 25/25 match means you are related within about 8 generations. Much easier for us than trying to find a connection in the dark ages. <G> I wish they would put out a book called " Genealogy DNA for Idiots" I'd be the first to buy one. Mary Harkey Russell [email protected] http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~bird
About 10 members of the LOVE surname have done the 12 marker test. We had a web page set up to show the results by one Rikki Love. While we can view the test results of three people by numbers the other tests are all marked Pending . I doubt that they are still pending and meanwhile Rikki Love seems to have disappeared????? I run the Love List and and also the same woman that started the Harkey tests and I have been in contact constantly with Bob Jackson on the Jackson tests. My Love List members have asked if there is any way that you might facilitate the viewing of the tests that have been completed. The results of Kit # 8299-- 8302 and 8313 have been posted on the list. We are waiting for 8332, 8336, 8339, 8456, 8821, 8996 and 9179. Please advise me on how we can see these to compare and see if any are matches. Mary Harkey Russell [email protected] http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~bird
Hi All, Mary, thanks for your recent note. I have some questions: 1. With respect to the problem we seem to be having with the reporting on the "pending" DNA results, is it possible to contact the testing agency, explanin the problem, and have these "pending" results reported on the Love-L web site? 2. I would appreciate any contact from the owner of Kit # 8302. We have a narrow miss ( 50% probability within some 60 generations), within a not unreasonable range probability- -, which is encouraging to me. I have some questions I would like to ask of that particular owner. Bill Love
It seems that March, April and May are traditionally slow months on the Love List. For the last three years we average about 20 message a month during those months. Maybe this is fine for list members who don't want their mail box too full or who are off researching some other line. It isn't good for the list manager who worries when people don't use the list. We have what looks like about 8 DNA tests pending? Are they really pending or are they finished. Without giving away names is there a way for us to know if any one matched with any other Love who tested. I wrote to Rikki, both on and off the list----Where are you Rikki. ??? For years some of us have had the feeling that several love lines tied in with one Robert Love b abt 1700. With his 3 wives and 3 families of Children. If that is true, some of those tested should match. Maybe I'm just being impatient but I would love to get more list mail. Mary Harkey Russell [email protected] http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~bird
