    3. Hi Bill. York County is a hot bed of Love activity! I have traced lines through Mecklenburg NC seeking to distinguish records for my James Love who moved down from Brunswick County VA. There is another James Love in the same area (Rocky River) of Mecklenburg (now Cabarrus) whose records seem to carry him to or point to York/Union Counties SC. I know the name Robert does not run in the Cabarrus bunch, but have not been able to distinguish this other James Love after he and a likely son John sold land in ca. 1785. Here is what I have and think: James Love and John McEachern moved from Cumberland County NC to Mecklenburg in 1770. In 1769, both James Love and John McEachern are listed in the Cumberland County Tax list. At the same time, same day, in 1770's, James Love, John Love and William Love acquired lands nearby in Mecklenburg. William is living among Donnelsons. In later deeds, John is married to an Elizabeth as is James. When John MecEachern died in the early 1790's, his loose estate indicates notes on "James Love" that are not collectable. Also, in the 1780's, deeds in Cumberland County point back to "John Love of Mecklenburg" and in so doing ties him to the McAllister family of that place. Appears they attended Pine Bluff Presbyterian in Cumberland and therefore may descend from Robert earlier in Bladen. Hugh McAden toured the area (1754) preaching at Rocky River Presbyterian Church near where this James Love lived. In his diary, he states he then traveled to Fishing Creek Presbyterian in now SC where Mr. James Love preached. Looking at old Anson County land records, a James Love lived on "Love's Branch." Also living there was a Campbell.... forget the given name. Back in NC (1782), John Love served as witness for last will and testament of Campbell of same given name... This Campbell seemed to own land first in York or Union SC and then up around Cabarrus NC. It has always been believed that my ancestor James Love previously from VA should be credited with service in the Revolutionary War. This from pay vouchers in 1780's Mecklenburg. But I believe this was actually this other James Love. And then, in 1785, James, John and even William sold their lands in Mecklenburg (now Cabarrus) and disappear! And then ca. 1790, my James Love appears in the same area via Wilkes NC, Stokes NC, and earlier VA. At that point he lives in and around Reed's mine. Would love to know what happened to this other James! 2. Hi Charles, Looking over Rikki Love's web site I saw your posting. I trace my family back to Robert Love who died 1741 in Lancaster Co.,PA. I also show that he married Mary Montgomery (Montgomerie?)- among others. Robert was the father of my Joseph Love, from whom I am descended. Is there any hard data on Robert's birth in Ireland? Would appreciate ANY info you have on the family! Bill Love La Porte,TX

    1. [LOVE-L] LOVE LINE ROLLCALL
    2. Good morning LOVE'rs, Have been reading all of the interesting posts this morning on our DNA Project, (AND LOVING IT I MIGHT ADD!!!!!!) So, I thought I would add my mystery to the witches brew that we have going. <G> Starting with William Hiram Love b. 1801 NC d. Mar. 6, 1885 Habersham Co., GA. I, along with several others believe William Hiram to be the son of Christopher Love, b. abt. 1770-1775 to John Love and Sarah "nee Sharp" Love of Mecklenburg NC. Although we have lots of speculation and conjecture that William is the son of Christopher, and our Christopher being the son of John & Sarah, we still lack that one piece of solid, conclusive evidence. ***Some of our thoughts: *On the 1830 Habersham Co., GA census we find a Christopher Love, but can not find him on any later censuses. *On the 1840 Rabun Co., GA census we find David Green Love "The Elder", a brother to William Hiram, with a male listed as being 60-70 y/o. That would put the older fellows birth as being bet. 1770-80. Leading us to think that it could be Christopher. *In 1839 David Green "The Elder" has his oldest son that he names William Christopher, we believe after his father and brother because William Hiram names his first son, David Green Love. (b. Mar. 31, 1836 by some accounts in Rabun Co, and others in Habersham Co., GA)(Also, David Green "The Younger" is my GG-Grandfather) *Although I have heard people say, but have been shown no proof, that Christopher, one of the youngest sons of John Love & Sarah Sharp, moved South because of his religious beliefs. Anyone that can shed a little light on this out there? I invite all to share their lines, as someone else may have a missing clue for you. 3. I am interested in this DNA - since I haven't progressed past my brick wall. How does one acquire a kit, and participate? My LOVE brick wall: Isaac Love, b.6 Sep 1783, in Virginia; married Mary Lewis, daughter of Mordecai Lewis and Mary Segler (Ziegler) - married in Sevier, Tennessee. (Children: William King, James Thomas, Alexander Preston, Andrew Martin, Mary Lewis, Mordecai Lewis, (baby girl), Reuben Blount, Sally KenCannon, Isaac Moore, Elizabeth Thompson, Catherine McDonald, Margaret Mitchell Wear, John Wesley) *I have had one source tell me that Isaac Love was the son of William Love and Susanna McDonald - both of Ronoake Virginia, but, it seems no one else has ever heard or seen record of this William Love. According to the information given to me regarding William Love - b. abt 1756, his children: Joseph, William, John J, Mary, Catherine, Isaac [my Isaac?], and Andrew. - these children all born between 1775 and 1785 - in Virginia. *I have had a few suggestions that this William Love - who married Susanna McDonald - might well be the son of Joseph H. Love and Margaret Bryan. Can anyone add to or dispute this information? Thanks, - Sarah Lewis [email protected] Have a happy day! :-)

    3. If there is any list members who object to all this DNA talk, I hope they can find it in their hearts to be patient with those of us who seem to be thinking of nothing else. There is a reason . For many years we have had theories, guesses, hints that we might one day tie the family up into one neat package. I guess it isn't going to happen. At least it doesn't look like we will find one family of Love, unless they lived across the ocean in Ireland or Scotland 400 or 500 years ago. As the guys let us know that they were tested, and state their lines like they have started doing, some of us will realize that we are related to one or another of them and that will help us. Also Rikki is keeping our DNA page going nicely. I hope you go look at it frequently . I hope those of you who have not done the DNA ,will think about doing it and I also hope that you post to the list often with questions and information for us on your line of Loves. When the list is busy we all stand a better chance of learning something new. ..................Mary Harkey Russell [email protected] http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~bird

    2. Mickey and Mary: Thanks for keeping this DNA thing going. I am test kit #8336, and have a match on all 12 markers to test kit #9179. I have a match on 11 markers with test kit #8302. I know who these two test kits are from, but we have not been able to establish a common ancestor. In 1996 I engaged Mr. Brent Holcomb, a noted genealogist and author of genealogy books in South Carolina, to research my known ancestors. Although he made some general conclusions, and some probabilities, he did not find a definite tie to any of the York or Chester District Loves in the period from 1800 to 1810. Mr. Holcomb thought it likely that my ancestors were related to the Love families that came down to South Carolina from Pennsylvania, but that was only an assumption after he did his research. Here is my known lineage. Anything other than this that I have is strictly family history or family legend. This is my Love line beginning with me and working backward to my earliest known ancestor and his siblings, then to "probable" ancestors and their siblings. 1. Joseph William Love, Jr. (III), b. Tulsa, OK March 31, 1928. (me) 2. Joseph William Love, Sr. (II), b. Bartlett, TX November 30, 1894. 3. John Blake Love, b. Salado, Bell Co., TX January 15, 1869. 4. Joseph William Love (I), b. Canton, Madison Co., MS February 1, 1843. Siblings: Robert Dickson Love, b. 1835; John Thomas Love, b. 1837; William G. Love, b. 1839; Margaret Ann Love, b. 1841; Benjamin Franklin Love, b. 1847. All b. in Madison Co. MS. 5. John Love, b. Chester or York District, South Carolina July 22, 1808. Siblings: Robert Love, b. 1810; James Thompson Love, b. 1815; William Love, b. 1820; Hattie Love, b. 1822; Henry Dixon Love, b. 1825; Elizabeth Love, b. 1826, all in Chester or York District, South Carolina. The above is the "known" lineage. From here down is the family history or family legend. 6. John Thompson "Blackjack" Love, b. abt 1775, Scotland. Buried Sandy Flat, Love's Creek, Madison County, MS, on the "old Love place" with his daughters Hattie and Elizabeth. Siblings: Robert Love, b. abt 1777; Joseph Love, b. abt 1780; Thomas Wesley Love, b. abt 1782; James Henry Love, b. abt 1785; all reportedly b. in Scotland. 7. John "Jack" Love, b. abt 1743, Dublin, IRE, m. abt 1770, Stratfordshire, Scotland. Said to have married Lucretia "Lorry" ?. Also reported to have a wife named Anna Uhler, of German extraction. Do not know which, if either, is correct. Family history has it that John Thompson "Blackjack" Love married Mary Dixon (or Dickson) in 1806 in Scotland, and came to South Carolina that same year. He reportedly had a brother named Joseph who lived on the North/South Carolina border and had nine sons. This is in written family histories. I have not located any descendants of that Joseph, but there should be many. If any of you can tie into any of this, I would be glad to hear from you. I am Bill Love of Galveston, Texas.

    2. Hello everyone! This DNA testing is all very interesting. My husband comes from Adam Love who came from Antrim in Northern Ireland. From what I am understanding, the line that most of the DNA samples are being done for are from the Love's who went down South. Our line went from Rhode Island to New York then to Michigan. I am wondering if it would do us any good at all to send my husband's DNA in for testing? Could someone please let us know. We have not sent for a kit at this point. Judy Love

I think the two kits that matched one was from Bill of Galviston is that right? The other kit 9179 I have no idea . Maybe it would do the list good since we are talking about dna anyway to have those people who find a match, to give a short synopsis of their line.
