Re: LOVE-D Digest V03 #116: > Ø We know where Christopher was in 1800, 1810 & 1830 and believe him to be > staying with his son on the 1840 census, but where was he between 1810 - 1830? ------------------- Regarding the above, from an earlier message which discussed the whereabouts of Christopher Love, son of John Love and Sarah Sharp -- I think I may be able to provide a few instances in which Christopher made an "appearance" in the records of Mecklenburg County, NC. Christopher was owner along with his brother David Love of property that they received as a bequest from their father. 1800 Deed from David Love & Christopher Love to Michael McLeary for 100 A of land dated 15 October 1800, proved by David Kennedy in 1818. 1802 +Christopher Love is included in a list of delinquents on the Tax List of the County of Mecklenburg. His name appears in the list for poll tax and for property tax. 1814 +August. Christopher Love is a member of the First Mecklenburg Regiment of Detached Troops. James Wilson, Captain. 1815 +Paw Creek. Listed in Capt. Hoover's Company of taxables: David Love. No land, no value, 1 WP, no BP. Christopher Love. No land, no value, 1 WP, no BP. 1816 +November. From the estate of Dr. Thomas Henderson of Charlotte Town, Mecklenburg County, his account record with entries dated 1816-1820. Christopher Love owes $2.85 on account for medical treatment. Re-entered under the heading "The amount that is in Lucky hands that cannot be collected." 1818 +Paw Creek. February. MCCofCP&QS, Book 6, p. 160. Deed from David Love & Christopher Love to Michael McLeary for 100 A of land dated 15 October 1800, proved by David Kennedy. I suspect that in the 18 intervening years between the sale of the 100 acres of land and the closing of the sale, David Love lived on the property and farmed it. Michael McLeary invested in property in Paw Creek, western Mecklenburg County. Apparently, Christopher was in Mecklenburg County around 1814-1815. He was perhaps present between 1816 and 1820. He must have left Mecklenburg County, making it unlikely that money owned to Dr. Henderson could be collected. At my website, I have published a complete timeline with sources for the above information. Donna J. Johnson Charlotte, Mecklenburg Co., NC http://www.mecklenburg.homestead.com/Index.html

    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: LOVE Classification: Biography Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/Xcx.2ACIB/1917 Message Board Post: "The Kansas City Times" (Missouri) Friday, April 4, 1913 A BURNED CHILD HAD FAITH. Pretty Marie TAYLOR was 9 years old one day last November. Many gifts came to the home of her parents, 1211 East Twenty-fifth Street, for Marie was a most likeable little girl. Among them was material for a dress from Mrs. E. M. LOVE, a mother of two of her playmates, who lives nearby, at 2463 Forest Avenue. Marie's mother, Mrs. S. S. TAYLOR, had been too busy to make the birthday gift into a dress until this week. Yesterday afternoon it was all finished and Marie tried it on. It was pink and ruffly, a perfect match for Marie's dangling curls and laughing eyes. "Please, mamma," she pleaded, "can't I run over and show Mrs. LOVE?" Mrs. LOVE wasn't at home. But Helen, 14 years old, and George, 9, were sitting in front of an open gas fire. Marie danced in and did a little curtsy. ABLAZE FROM HEAD TO FOOT. "See my new dress," she said, and whisked around for their approval. A flounce on the skirt came too close to the flame. In a second, Marie was ablaze from her knees to her head. "Fire! fire!" George cried and ran for the back door to summon help. Marie started after him. Helen grabbed a light wrap and tried to smother the flames. It burned in the older girl's hands. Marie ran wildly into the kitchen. Several neighbors heard the cries. The front door of the LOVE home was locked and had to be forced before aid could arrive. Then the child was found in the bathroom trying to turn on the water in the tub. All her clothes were burned away and her pretty hair was gone. Mrs. LOVE was home by this time and Mrs. TAYLOR had rushed from her home across the street. TELLS MOTHER TO PRAY. Dr. C. S. MERRIMAN, 2511 Forest Avenue, was called and while waiting for his arrival, Marie was fully conscious. She apparently was too numbed to feel pain. Her blackened lips were mumbling over a Sunday school prayer when her mother arrived. Doctor MERRIMAN gave emergency treatment and then Marie was carried to her own home. Her father, S. S. TAYLOR, a plumber, was summoned from his work. "Don't worry, mamma," Marie kept saying. "I'll get all right. Just pray for me and read in the Bible like you always told me." But the child's faith was unavailing and she died at 11:15 o'clock, four hours after the accident. Doctor MERRIMAN declared after the first examination, she had no chance to recover. Marie was the oldest of three children of Mr. and Mrs. S. S. TAYLOR. She was a regular Sunday school attendant and a pupil at the Morse School. "She had always been the nicest girl," sobbed her mother last night, "and now --- well, now, we just must save her. We must." ====================================================== (I have no connection with these families but I'd appreciate knowing if you found this posting helpful.) ====================================================== Go to the Jackson County, Missouri Message Board to see births, deaths, and marriages in the Kansas City, MO & Kansas City, KS areas. http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec?htx=board&r=rw&p=localities.northam.usa.states.missouri.counties.jackson When there: Do an "Advanced Search" and enter the surname (all lower case letters) on the "Find Messages Containing" line. 3. Hi all, Somehow something has gotten awry here - My line is through Isaac and Phoebe Love alright, but thru their son Harvey Connelly and Martha Sands Love. Harvey and Martha had Lee Davis Love who married Eliza Annie Imboden, they were my great grandparents. Isaac and Phoebe moved via from TN to Vermilion Co IL, then on to present day Maries, then Pulaski/Osage/Crawford counties, in MO. He was there by 1840 when he is on the 1840 Pulaski census. Charles Richard Love is not ours that I know of. I don't have a Charles Richard in my database. 2. George Thomas
    3. John J. married first Louisa Swift and second to Nancy Caroline Lunsford. John's father is Thomas who married Caroline Johnson in Wilkes County. Thomas is the son of John and Martha James. John served in the Amercian Revolution on behalf of his father James Love. James, born in VA is the son of James who died 1800 Stokes County NC. James Jr. removed through Wilkes and settled in Cabarrus County where he became quarter owner of Reed mine. Of interest, several of James Love's children settled in Cabarrus, Stanly and Union County NC. In 1850, there is a Thomas J. Love in the census of Union County. He is listed as being born in Wilkes County. This has to be one of the descendants of John, son of James. 1. [LOVE-L] SOME OF MY LOVE QUESTIONS
    2. Here are just a few thoughts and questions on my Love line Notes on the parentage of William Hiram Love b. 1801 NC d. March 6, 1885, Habersham Co., Georgia. Ø William Hiram Love is long thought to be the son of Christopher Love whom is found on the 1830 Habersham Co., GA census, but not found on any other later censuses. Ø On the 1840 Rabun Co., census, David Green Love "The Elder", younger brother of William Hiram, we find an older male who we believe to be the father of William and David, or David's wife. Ø We believe this Christopher Love to be the son of John Love and Sarah "nee Sharp" Love of Mecklenburg Co., NC. This Christopher being named in John Love's will of 1791, as being left the plantation to him and his brother, David. Ø Another thing that leads us to believe that the Christopher Love of the 1830 Habersham census is the fact that David Green Love, "The Elder", named his first son William Christopher Love and William Hiram named his first son, David Green Love, after his brother. Ø We found Christopher on an earlier census in Iredell Co., NC in 1810. On this census it shows Christopher with 2 sons being born between 1800 & 1810. William Hiram was born 1801 and David Green "Elder" was born 1809, both in NC. Ø We have not been able to find Christopher on an 1820 census anywhere. Thinking that he could have been in transit from North Carolina, Southward. Ø I have seen various references that Christopher left NC because of his religious beliefs, although I have seen no hard proof. Ø We know where Christopher was in 1800, 1810 & 1830 and believe him to be staying with his son on the 1840 census, but where was he between 1810 - 1830? One possibility is South Carolina. We have found a Nancy Love that mar. Ransom Fuller, and believe her to be the older sister of William & David as listed on the 1810 Iredell Co., census. Ø Another place could be Alabama, as he had a brother Samuel that relocated there with his and his wife's relations. Ø If it is true that Christopher left NC, because of his religious beliefs, that further leads us to believe him to be the son of John Love and Sarah Sharp, as Sarah was of the Quaker faith. I. What was the name of Christopher's wife? II. Where was he between 1810 & 1830? III. When did he die? IV. Where did he die? V. Was there a will left, if so where and when? VI. What was the name of Christopher's wife? VII.Where was she from? VIII.Who were her parents? 1. Re: [LOVE-L] DNA for LOVEs
    2. There was a Jefferson Love who was b. in SC and moved to Madison Co. MS who was a grandson of the Alexander Love of York Co., perhaps a brother to James the "weaver". There was a Robert Love who was born in SC and moved to Madison Co. MS in about 1807, and m. 2nd Sallie Catching. Robert was a son of Alexander, and an uncle to Jefferson Love. Both Robert and Jefferson, and their families, are in the 1850 census of Madison Co. MS. My g-g-g-grandfather John Love, who moved from SC to Madison Co. MS in abt 1830, lived on Love's creek in Madison Co. MS. I have long believed that he had some sort of relational tie to Robert and Jefferson Love, son and grandson of Alexander Love. Jefferson was the son of William Love, son of Alexander and brother to Judge Robert Love. If there is any tie between this Jefferson Love and the Jefferson Love in #9129, then there may be a tie between #8302, who is likely in the same line as Alexander Love. I am #8336, and would like to find some tie to this Love line that came from Scotland or Ireland to PA in the early 1700's, then to SC. Can anyone shed any light on any of this? Thanks. Bill Love of Galveston.

    3. > The Benjamin Love will >of 1793 in Chester Co. SC was witnessed by William Love, William Love, Sr. >and Frances Love (fe). Remains unclear as to who these LOVEs are and how >they are related to Benjamin. Anybody know? Both the John Loves of Chester had sons named William. Mine died in 1799 leaving widow Elizabeth; sons John Royal, William and Samuel (a minor); daughters Mary (my ancestor, m. Samuel Wright), Elizabeth and Jean. I can build a pretty good circumstantial case that he was the son of English Bill but lack the final proof. The other was the son of James. His wife was Martha ?Drennan?. He had sons William, John, James, Thomas, Robert and Joseph; and daughters Jane, Sarah and Martha. I have sort of believed that Benjamin and my John are the same family. That is mostly because the sons of James and Alexander are pretty well recorded. Despite the fact that I have seen several references to the will of William (assumed to be English Bill) the actual document has never surfaced and no one knows for sure whether we have the names of all his children. We know that he had: 1) James was shot by the Patriots crossing the river, 2) Thomas escaped and went to live among the Chickasaw 3) The daughter who married Mr. Sadler But no others have been proven to date. 3. Hazel, No apologies are needed for sending genealogy to the Love list. Your letter was welcome and interesting. It is going to take many more letters to solve our mysteries and many more DNA tests, One thing that caught my attention was about your Nancy and Isaac going to TN probably Knox Co. That is where Joseph Love and Mary Teas Lived. Although Joseph died in 1804 Mary Teas Love was still alive until 1815 and also living there was Joseph's sons- Robert Love and his wife Jane Campbell, Samuel Love and his wife Mary Lane who were living in Knox County. My line was John Love and wife Orpha Dungan Love and they lived in Carter County. John Love owned land in Cherokee Co. AL. and His twin sons and his grandson William Snodgrass lived there. As for the Chickasaw Loves, One of Joseph Love's grandsons , William Calhoun Love, wrote in his journal. ; " I bought a few horses and took them by land to Mississippi. Traveled through the Indian nation called on two of my relations, half breeds by the name of Love, Henry and Slone, they treated me friendly as other travellers, but did not care to claim kin as the Indians only claim kin by the Mother's side. " William Calhoun Love thought that the ancestor of these men was a James but he was 89 when he was writing this, if I remember right. We know that the name was Thomas Love. If we want to play what if-- we might say " What if William C. Love just skipped over Thomas and William and reached back to a James?" But then, What if ,won't work for us. We have to get proof

    3. Dear LOVE listers, It is long past the time for sharing our "LOVE" story: Participant #9179 in the LOVE DNA Project is my first cousin. Bill Love, #8336, has shared with you the fact that he had an exact match with #9179. Likewise, Dr. Louis Love, #8302, matches our #9179 test results at ratio of 11/12 or 1 mutation difference. We are delighted to discover these new "Cousins," and, by sharing our data, we look forward to a successful search for our most common ancestor. I wholeheartedly agree with Rikki Love's suggestion and encouragement for up-grade to the 25-marker test. It is obvious that some of the LOVE participants could lower the number of generations back to their most common ancestor. Test kit #9179 WILL up-grade to the 25-marker test if others are interested. (My opinion about this is based on the great results which we received for my husband's participation in a 25-marker project for his surname.) To those LOVE listers who have NO connection or interest in my family: PLEASE ACCEPT MY HUMBLE APOLOGY for the detailed data which follows. (I am fully aware that I should have posted this data weeks ago on the LOVE DNA webpage under "Various Love Lines." Rikki's webpage contains a lot of helpful data.) To ALL OTHER LOVE listers who believe we can share helpful data: PLEASE feel free to e-mail me privately. LOVE FAMILY of Hazel (& Cousin Gerald) : {I} fa : Herbert Loyd LOVE, 1902-1976, Webster Co. SELDON Love, (was first burial, 1827, in Beersheba Presby. Ch. Cem., Lowndes Co. AL; buried in same plot with Jefferson P. Love, his wife, Elizabeth; AND an ISAAC LOVE ***, no dates.) {5} (UNPROVED gr,gr,gr-grnfa) : *** This ISAAC LOVE, is believed to be the grandson, ISAAC LOVE, of "old" BENJAMIN LOVE, 1723-1799, who wrote his will in 1793 in CHESTER Co. SC. Unfortunately, Benjamin DID NOT provide a given name for the father(s) of these two grandsons. The search for proof that "old" Benjamin is our ancestor has been ongoing and frustrating for more than FORTY YEARS. We have believed that Benjamin Love was closely related to James Love, "weaver." The DNA test results prove that we share a common LOVE ancestor with Dr. Louis Love, descendant of James, "weaver." The possibility exists that Benjamin (b.1723) COULD be a son of old James Love, BUT DNA test results obviously cannot provide this information. If William Love of Lunenberg Co. VA is Benjamin's father, does anyone know whether William and James, "weaver," are brothers? The Benjamin Love will of 1793 in Chester Co. SC was witnessed by William Love, William Love, Sr. and Frances Love (fe). Remains unclear as to who these LOVEs are and how they are related to Benjamin. Anybody know? All of the following brief story is substantiated with documents and/or records of many kinds, and existence of undeniable circumstantial evidence. Lack of extant Bibles, wills, marriage records, whether due to courthouse fires or other destructive means, however, has hindered any success in learning surnames of our females, or the name of Isaac Love's father. Benjamin Love's grandsons, Benjamin and ISAAC, were in NE GA in early 1800s. After 1810 Isaac and wife, Nancy, apparently went to TN, probably Knox Co.; in 1817 they were in MS Territory; and they were in St. Clair Co. AL from 1820 until after December 1824. Next they moved to Pickens Co. AL where Isaac died before the 1830 census because Nancy Love is shown as head of the family. Before 1840 she moved her family to old Choctaw Co. MS (the part which was later Webster Co.) Descendants of Benjamin Love, b.1776, know that he was, also, in St. Clair Co. AL after he left GA. He later moved to Greene Co. AL where he died in the early 1850s. Descendants have his War of 1812 pension records for service in GA Militia. His estate settlement papers were found in records of Greene Co., which is not very far south of the area of Pickens Co. AL/Lowndes Co. MS where Isaac Love had lived. Interestingly, names of those involved in the settlement of Benjamin's estate were some of the LOVEs and allied families from the Beersheba Presbyterian Church in Lowndes Co. MS! JOHN GASTON LOVE, son of "old" Benjamin Love, Chester Co. SC, came to Pickens Co. AL prior to the 1840 census. Names of members of John G.'s family were found in young Benjamin's estate papers. John Gaston Love's sister, Elizabeth Love, married Richard Love, a descendant of "Old" James Love, "weaver," and many of their descendants came to Choctaw Co. MS. Many of you are descendants of, or familiar with, Thomas Love, son of William Love, "English Bill," whose wife was a Chickasaw Indian. Many of the names Thomas gave his children are the same as those used by my LOVE ancestors, and these names have been passed down for several generations on numerous branches of our LOVE family tree. I believe there is a close connection between William Love, father of Thomas, and the LOVEs of Chester Co. SC. Was this William Love who was in PA in earlier years a brother of Alexander, Robert, James, "weaver," Benjamin, perhaps others? He didn't come down to SC until a few years after the other LOVEs.
