Lucretia Love married Nathan Codner in 1850 by Leonard Martin, J.P. also in Waukesha County. Lucretia was the daughter of Clinton and Mary Stalker Love, both natives of NY who moved to WI ca. 1845. Who was Ann Love? We suspect that Clinton had relatives living nearby, but we have not been able to tie him into any of the other Love lines whose migration was also from NY to WI in the same timeframe. In a Hallettsville newspaper article, Jim Love's mother is listed as Nancy (Nan) Zumwalt, which is correct according to my relatives, and his father as Allen Love. We THINK but haven't yet proven that Jim's father is Joseph A. Love, who served with Hood's Brigade in the Civil War. Jim was quoted as saying his father did. But we have no proof that Jim was in fact Joseph Love's son. Joseph and Nancy were married 9/16/1859 in Fayette Co., Tx. Jim's birthday was 7/14/1859, which would have put him before the holy bonds of matrimony. There is a Joe Love listed as being born 1859 to Joseph Love and Nancy Zumwalt. Could the name have been written wrong, and really should have been James?] If Jim's dad IS Joseph, then the line continues thus, thanks to the work of a wonderful gentleman named Craig Holland: 6. LOVE BROTHERS----------------- Vol 1 page 87 of Love Letters by Jolee Love---- a letter by Franklin Dederick Love said There were 4 brothers named Love who settled Augusta Co. VA. He said- 1. SAMUEL LOVE was my great-great-grandfather. ( This is the one married DORCAS BELL) Their families emigrated westward and southward 2. JOSEPH LOVEa descendants went south and one of them married Joe Brown, War Governor of Georgia: ( This is JOSEPH who married MARY TEAS) 3. WILLIAM LOVE went into east Tennessee and was the father of JOSEPH? ( which Joseph????), probably the first sheriff of Knox County TN.? 4. ROBERT LOVEs descendants Samuel and Isaac, , I have not been able to trace. . So if Franklin was remembering straight Samuel and Joseph who we already know were brothers, had two other brothers named William and Robert. William was in east Tennessee and named a son Joseph. Joseph /Mary Teas was also in Knox TN Robert had two sons Samuel and Isaac. Samuel /Dorcas Bell ( I think went back to VA after her death?) was in and out of TN while his sons Robert and Thomas were in TN Thomas was a General and Robert was a Colonel both were famous and important men of their era. Wonder which way Robert went? I thought that by going back over things that we have read before, but trying to pay more attention to them , might help us learn something. [email protected] wrote, in part: The will does not name all of Robert Love's children but from it and other sources we believe he was the father of at least ten children who were born between about 1705 and about 1732. The oldest of these: James, John, William, Robert and possibly Alexander were born in County Antrim, Ireland and came to Pennsylvania with their parents. The other known children in-clude: Thomas, Joseph (our ancestor), Samuel, Jean and Mary. These were born in Chester or Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. James, Robert and Alexander moved to what now Chester and York Counties in South Carolina; Joseph and Samuel went to Augusta County, Virginia; and John, William and Thomas appear to have remained in Pennsylvania. =================== Was not the son William the one we lovingly call "English Bill?" In checking to see if our test was posted as pending, I see that there are now two sets of matching numbers. (kits #8313 and 8996) What families are the newest set of matches descended from?
Hi, Either John LOVE and his first wife Mary (m. 1704/5) or his brother William LOVE and wife Anne BELL (m. 1710/1) is the father of Sarah LOVE who married in 1727/8 to George WEST (my line) in St. Peter's Parish, Talbot Co., Maryland. There is probably some relation to the HARDING family. Additional details and documentation at the site below. Rick Saunders http://home.netcom.com/~fzsaund/love.html

This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: LOVE Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/Xcx.2ACIB/1925 Message Board Post: Found this buried in a family tree on Ancestry.com - does anyone know about the three sons who supposedly remained in PA - John, William and Thomas? ID: I0856 Name: Robert Love Sex: M Birth: in Ireland? Note: Robert Love (ca 1685 - 1741), according to the journal of his great grandson, William Calhoun Love, was, "of the Scott Irish descent emigrated and settled in Pennsylvania not far from the year 1700, he was married three times and my grandfather (Joseph Love) was one of the children by his third wife. It was said of my great grandfather Robert Love that when he purchased 300 Acres of land, he said he wanted no more as he had enough for himself - children and grand-children and his great grandchildren after him." Putting together what we have inherited by way of family tradition and what we have learned through the research of Franklin D. Love and other later researchers, we know that Robert Love was of Scots-Irish descent; that he apparently came from County Antrim, Ireland to Pennsyl-vania about 1720 or a few years later; and that he died in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania in 1741. He is not to be confused with "Robert Love of Craigetampan, County Antrim, Ireland", who was probably a generation older and apparently died in Ireland without ever having come to America. Just when our Robert Love was born and when he came to America are both matters of speculation. Whenever he was born he probably came to Pennsylvania about 1720, since the "traditions" we have indicate that his first four sons, and possibly the fifth, were born in Ireland. We don't know exactly where Robert Love first settled, although there are a number of references to "Chester County, Pennsylvania." Some of these also mention, "West Fallowfield Township, Chester County, Pennsylvania" or "Faggs Manor Parish, Chester County, Pennsylvania". We do know that he died in Lancaster County in 1741, so it could well be that he first settled in that part of Chester County which was cut off to form Lancaster County in 1728. Robert Love wrote his will on August 2, 1741. That he died shortly thereafter is shown by the fact that the will was proved in Lancaster County Court three months later on November 3, 1741. The will does not name all of Robert Love's children but from it and other sources we believe he was the father of at least ten children who were born between about 1705 and about 1732.
