    3. Is there anyone who has a complete copy of "A Short Memoir of the Life and Times of Wm. C. Love" written by himself? The copy I was sent contained only the first 4 pages ending with, "Nancy who was married about this time) to Christian County" The person who sent this to me found it in some old family papers and had no idea where it came from. Surely someone else has a copy. I searched the LDS Library Catalog without success. Wm.'s father was Wm. Love and his mother was Esther Calhoun. I would like to know how long it is and if it can be copied and sent to me. I will pay for expenses of copying and mailing. That is assuming it's not too expensive. Thanks to all Marylou Denyer

    1. Re: [LOVE-L] Loves in Michigan & Ohio
    2. I, too, have family that has eluded me for a long time. I have traced our family from Rhode Island to Michigan and then have lost them. Austin Love was the son of Robert & Susannah Love. He was born in Bridgewater, New York and moved to Michigan in 1834. He married Clara Bradley in New York and moved with her and their two children to Michigan. They had 8 children. One of those childred was Daniel Webster Love born in 1836. He married and had 3 daughters and a son. The daughters names were Flora, Born 1871, Leon, Born 1873, Lulu, Born 1877 and Norah, born 1879. Their married names were, Shuck, Townsend & German. Leon married and had a daughter Mildred. Mildred's last name was Rhoades. I assume that is a married name, but could also be the name she grew up with. Leon had divorced her mother when she was very young. Her mother, Bessie Bryant Love, could have remarried and Mildred could have taken his name. I have been searching for any information on any of the childred of Daniel Webster & Leon's daughter, Mildred. Leon later moved to St. Louis, MO and married and had 10 childred. One of those children was my father-in-law. I believe that two of Daniel Webster's daughters moved to Ohio after they married. Any info that anyone could give me would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Judy L.

    1. [LOVE-L] Loves in 1860 and 1870 Census
    2. Jim & Kathleen Meeker
    3. Okay fellow listers, I can't stand it any longer! I've been through hundreds, no - thousands of census records and my aunt on the other side of the country has done the same. I read this list faithfully and monitor the Love message boards. Why can't I find this family in the 1860 and 1870 Census? I have tried all of the variations that I can think of that handwriting could be inpreted as. Sooooooooooooooo, I am resorting to begging. Please keep your eyes open for this family when you are looking for your own Loves in the 1860 and 1870. James is the son of Thomas Love of Rockbridge Co. VA who relocated to Meigs Co. OH, dies and is buried there. James born in OH in 1812. Married 1837 to Eliza Smith b.1822. They resided in Meigs County until late 40's and then went to Wetzel Co. VA. I believe their oldest son was Thomas but he was not with them in 1850 Census, Wetzel Co. VA, when their family consisted of James Love, age 38, Eliza, age 28, Harriet 9, Jane (Frances) 7, William 5, Elizabeth 3, Clark 3/12. They must have moved back to Ohio prior to 1857 when my grandmother, Mary Ellen Love was born in Great Bend, Meigs Co. OH and her sister Minerva born in OH in 1862, but I can find no record of the family from 1850 until 1880 when Eliza is a widow in Meigs Co. and Mary Ellen and Minerva living with unrelated families as servants. Where oh where were they hiding? I can see them being missed in one of the Census years but not in both. So please, please, please, be on the lookout for this family. In all of my time on this list, I have not found any one else who is related and I have not been able to find James and Eliza by researching Mary Ellen's siblings. Frances Jane married William Garrison and lived in Franklin County OH and New York. William married and moved to Maryland. Mary Ellen married Joel Anderson and moved around WV and Minerva married David Barnett and moved to Pittsburgh PA. If anyone can shed some light on those missing years, my family and I will be forever greatful. Kathleen Meeker Belmont County, OH

I wanted to send you a quick response to let you know that I received the info and you have already filled in a few gaps. We can also fill in a lot of info for you and will do so in an in-depth email in the next few days. My wife has some appointments tomorrow that will sort of fill up most of the day but I will be glad to get you all the dates and points of interest that I can provide. This is very exciting to us and we look ahead to sharing all that we have with you. We would prefer, however, to send you the info via email so if you would be so kind as to send me your email address, we'll get moving on this sharing of info ASAP. Richard

They started for Oregon in 1850 from Indiana. At Missouri their father Ira Baxter Henderson died of cholera. The family Bible and notes that my gggrandfather Samuel Wilson Henderson made stated that Elizabeth and Rebecca married in Atchison Co. Missouri. My gggrandmother and 7 children (including my ggrandfather) came to Oregon with her family (the Wilson/Dinwiddie clan) and settled in Union Point, Linn Co., Oregon. Union Point was settled for the purpose of starting a United Presbyterian Church and the train this family came on came for that purpose. I have been researching my family for about 3 years. Rebecca was one of two sisters who the family said "went to Texas." I have been unable until just recently to find anything out about her "Buddington/Budington" side until just recently I found them in the Austin, TX Census. I would love to find more out about her family. I was beginning to think I had the wrong spouse for her. I! will be glad to send or email anything I can on the Henderson side. Rebecca was born at the mouth of the St. Joseph River in Berrien Co, MI. from there her family settled in Cass Co, MI than moved to Porter Co, IN. I am from Oregon. My ggrandfather moved from Linn Co. , east to Umatilla Co., Oregon. Eventually my father ended up in Union Co (LaGrande) I currently live in The Dalles, Wasco Co, Oregon about 80 miles east of Portland. I am looking forward to hearing back from you and your wife. I haven't done any research on the Love portion of the family. Linnea

    1. [LOVE-L] Can you identify this Jeremiah Love?
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/Xcx.2ACIB/1945 Message Board Post: I found this listed under the heading of Norweigians in the Civil War: Love, Jeremiah, Age 40 WI. 15th Inf. Co. G. Enlisted for three year on Jan 2, 1862 at Beloit and mustered in at Madison. He was a private who was discharged from service at Mississippi River Island on Sept. 5, 1862 for disabilities due to a disease. His residence was listed as Beloit, Rock County, Wisconsin. We know this is NOT the Jeremiah Love, son of Clinton Love, who was born in NY in 1836, and who later moved to WI, where he married Phoebe Alvira Runyan in Janesville, Rock Co., in 1858. He enrolled in WI infantry Volunteers, 37th Regt, Co. F at Portland WI on March 23, 1864 for a period of three years, mustered in on April 19, 1864 at Madison and mustered out at age 29 as a corporal in Delany's House, D.C. in July of 1865. Online sources state that Richard Love and Charlotte Rose Love had a son named Jeremiah born in NY 1802 who died in Rock County, WI but his date of death was in 1852, so he is ruled out also. What were the ties, if any, between these Jeremiah's, who lived in and around Rock Co., WI in the same timeframe? Most of the Love lines I have researched in trying to find our Clinton Love's roots have been tied to the Scotch-Irish and the English lines. This Norweigian line is a new one for me. Can anyone enlighten me? Any help will be appreciated. Thanks, Shirley
