I would like to have contact with anyone descended from or researching the family of or siblings of Janet Lorimer and her husband, John Milligan. Janet Lorimer (daughter of William Lorimer and his wife, Elizabeth Wallace) was born 15 November 1809 and baptized 21 November 1809 in Kirkconnel Parish, Dumfriesshire and died by 1851 in Greenock, Renfrewshire, Scotland. Her parents, William (1773-1856) and Elizabeth farmed Knockenjig farm. Janet Lorimer was the granddaughter of Robert Lorimer and his wife, Janet Weir who lived in Kirkconnel Parish, Dumfriesshire. Janet Lorimer was married in March 1832 in Sanquhar Parish, Dumfriesshire to John Milligan (son of William Milligan and Mary Wilson). He was born 27 July 1810 (bible record), baptized 30 July, 1810 (parish record) in Dunscore Parish, Dumfriesshire and died in 1848. They lived in Greenock, Renfrewshire. John was the manager in a pottery factory. Most of their children died at young ages. There was a cholera epidemic in Gr! eenock at one time and perhaps some of the children died from cholera. On the 1841 census for East Parish, Greenock, Renfrew, at Ash tree Cottage: John Milligan, age 30, occupation, Earthen ware or pottery manufacturer; Janet Milligan, age 30; Elizabeth Milligan, age 8; William Milligan, age 4; John Milligan, age 2; Mary Milligan, age 5 months. John, Janet and Elizabeth are not born in Renfrew but the younger children are recorded as being born in that county. Janet was buried 31 Oct, 1850, age 40 in East Parish, Greenock, Renfrew (Greenock burial records). John was buried 11 March, 1848, age 38 in East Parish, Greenock, Renfrew, Scotland (Greenock burial records). The children of Janet Lorimer and her husband, John Milligan, were: - Elizabeth Milligan, born 8 Jan. 1833 (family bible information) in Sanquhar Parish, Dumfriesshire. She married James Simpson. - William Milligan, born 22 April 1834 (family bible information); bapt. 23 June, 1834 in Kirkconnel Parish; died in Greenock. - William Milligan, born 7 December 1836 in Greenock, Renfrewshire (family bible information). He lived with his grandmother, Mary Milligan, at Dempsterton in Dunscore Parish, Dumfriesshire on the 1851 census. He may have also lived in Gourock or Dumfries, Dumfriesshire. - John Milligan, born 29 October 1838 in Greenock, Renfrewshire (family bible information); died at Mains Cottage, Greenock, Renfrewshire at age 12 on 18 May 1849. He was buried in the family plot, 21 May 1849, age 12, in East Parish, Greenock, Renfrew (cemetery burial record). - Mary Wilson Milligan, born 14 December 1839 in Greenock, Renfrewshire (family bible information). She was living with her grandmother Milligan in Dunscore on the 1851 census. She may have lived in Dumfries, Dumfriesshire later in life. - Robert Milligan, born 9 November 1841 in Greenock, Renfrewshire (family bible information). After his parents died he lived with his grandmother Milligan in Dunscore Parish and later with his uncle William Lorimer in Old Cumnock Parish. He was married on 15 November 1861 in Old Cumnock Parish to Mary Crawford and lived in Cumnock, Ayrshire. - Janet Milligan, born 30 May 1843 in Greenock, Renfrewshire (family bible information). She was buried 12 June, 1850, age 6, in the family plot in Greenock, Renfrew (cemetery burial record). - Margaret Milligan, born 3 February 1846 in Greenock, Renfrewshire (family bible information). She was buried in the family plot 11 Oct., 1847, age 20 months (cemetery burial record) in East Parish, Greenock, Renfrew.
