He became Minister for Defence and was knighted by Queen Victoria for his services. He was also into banking and shipping, being director of the Bank of New South Wales. He owned a couple of ships and he was also a shipping agent for a number of ships.I believe he was responsible for bringing a lot of immigrants to Australia, one way or another.
