John was born in approx. 1776-77 in Crawfordjohn, Lanark, Scotland. He married Elizabeth Lorimer (also spelled Elisabeth) in approximately 1807 (probably in Kirkconnel Parish, Dumfriesshire, Scotland). Elizabeth/Elisabeth (daughter of Robert Lorimer and his wife, Janet Weir) was born in approximately 1777 in Kirkconnel Parish, Dumfriesshire, Scotland and died 17 September 1850 (headstone information). She is buried in Old Kirk churchyard, Cambusnethan, North Lanark, Scotland. John was listed on the 1851 census living next door to his daughter in the Parish of Shotts, District of Airdrie and Middle Ward, Lanark, Scotland. A John French died in 1856 in Cambusnethan Parish, Lanark. The children of John and Elizabeth/Elisabeth were: - Janet French, born approximately 1810 in Kirkconnel Parish, Dumfriesshire. She married John Brownlie in approximately 1829, and died 19 March 1863 in Cambusnethan Parish, Lanark, Scotland. Children: Elizabeth, Jean, Janet, Archibald, John, and James Brownlie. - Robert French, born 22 March 1812 in Barony, Glasgow, Lanark. He was still living in 1857 (mentioned in uncle's will), not with parents on 1841 census). - Elizabeth/Elisabeth French, married a McAlpine. She may have married on 23 March 1840 in Greenock, Renfrew to Peter McAlpine (son of James McAlpine). She died 29 October 1853 (headstone information) and is buried in Old Kirk churchyard, Cambusnethan, Lanark, Scotland. Peter was still living in 1857. He may have moved to the United States after she died. Their children were: James (born approx. 1842), Elisabeth (born approx. 1848 in Lanarkshire), and Ellen (born approx. 1849 in Lanarkshire), and Janet (born approx. 1853) McAlpine. - John French, bapt 21 April 1816 in Cambusnethan Parish,Lanark, Scotland; died 12 Sept 1850, buried Old Kirk churchyard, Cambusnethan, Lanark, Scotland. He married twice: 1) Married 1839 in Dunbarton to Margaret Findlay (daughter: Margaret Finlay French born 1840, married John Russell in 1869 in Scotland). 2) Married 1843 in New Monkland? to Christina Morten Brash (children: Elisabeth Rennie French, born 1843; Christina French, born 1844; John French, born 1846, died 1847). Christina Morten Brash French immigrated to California in 1860. Her daughter Elisabeth married William Simpson (they raised a family in Australia) and daughter Christina married Cyrus Shober Eichelberger (they raised a family in California). - Margaret French, bapt 20 Feb 1820 in Cambusnethan Parish, Lanark, Scotland, married a man surnamed Inglis (possibly James Inglis). She was still living in 1857 and was mentioned in the will of her Uncle, Thomas Lorimer. Margaret's children may have been John Inglis (bapt. 1853 in Glasgow); James Inglis (born 8 Jan. 1855 in Glasgow); John French Inglis (born 2 April 1857 in Glasgow). A James Inglis died in 1858 at Hutchesontoun, Glasgow.
