The story came to me verbally, so not sure of accuracy. The story we got was that there were De Lormiers who were French Hugetnots. They escaped France where they would have been executed. They went to Scotland and (this was a ittle vague) took the Scottish name nearest their own: Lorimer. Later, two brothers left for the New World. One went to Canada and one to the United States. Although I was born in the U.S., I am a descendant of the one who settled in Canada. My uncle who did the research was William Lorimer, born in the early 1900s. My father was Gordon Campbell Lorimer, born in 1905, I think. Their sisters were Anne Lorimer Kellington and Elizabeth Lorimer James.Their father was Adam Lorimer. My father came to the United States in his mid-twenties and became a naturalized citizen. My Canadian cousins names are William Lorimer, Donald Lorimer, Kenneth Lorimer sons of William Lorimer, and Maureen James Davis (daughter of Elizabeth Lorimer James.
