Author: GeorgeLorimerJr Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.lorimer/229/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Hi! I'm tracing two distinct lines of Lorimers in Michigan and these two lines are not connected within the State, and I have not yet found any common ancestry outside of the state. Though there is good information for the second line, my line has a dead end just 4 generations back reaching to Nova Scotia. I am George H Lorimer, Jr. son of George H Lorimer St, son of Robert Levi Joseph Lorimer, son of James Herbert Lorimer, son of John William Lorimer. James Herbert moved to Michigan from Canada, and his father John William Lorimer is the one I seek. Born 1823, I've got the records that show his residence, marriage, birth, death, and burial and even visited the county in Ontario back in the 1990's to meet with descendants and gather records from local resources. All that surfaced about John William Lorimer's origin is that he was born 1823 in Nova Scotia to unnamed parents and may be Irish. All of my searches have turned up several potential but very weak hits; nothing conclusive. Here's what I've got: -------- Death Record, from the Register of Birth, Death, & Marriages, Norfolk County, Woodhouse Township, 1896-1905. "Lorimer, John W. 18 Feb 1901, 78 years of age. Lived at Lot 1 of Concession 5. Farmer, born in Nova Scotia. Died of La Grippe [Flu]. Attending Physician J.W. Tripp M.D.. Was a Methodist. Author of this return [record] Joseph Coats, 18 Feb." John's property was granted to his son William Lorimer of Windham Township, Norfolk County, Ontario. "Widow Harriet duly removed her right and title to said letters of administration." 1861 Census shows: John W. age 38 from Nova Scotia Owned land in Linnville Ontario May 15 1857 to Mar 20 1862.
