Isabella Looney, 80; Mary Looney, 31; Jane Looney, 6; Mary Looney, 4; Esther Looney 1 Robert Brew, 32, Labourer Jane Brew, 36; Robt Brew, 8; Margaret Brew 6; John Brew 4; Catherine Brew 1 Robt. Quayle, 6 [this child may have been travelling with above party] This I believe is a three generation extended family: Robert Brew m. Jane Looney 9 Jul 1814 at Kk Maughold, their children, all baptised at Kk Maughold were Robert (14 May 1815), Margaret (8 Feb 1818), John (18 Mar 1821) and Catherine (26 Sept 1824) - though the sequence of names is correct all ages seem to be deflated by 1 or 2 years. Jane Looney was most likely daughter of William Looney and Isabel Curphey, married 8 Nov 1777 at Santon, baptised 14 Nov 1790 at Douglas St Matthews. Other children of William and Isabel found in the IGI are Catherine (9 Sep 1778 Douglas St Matthew), John (3 Mar 1782 Douglas St George), Elizabeth (21 Jan 1784 Douglas St Matthew - presumed died young), Elizabeth (14 Jun 1786 Douglas St Matthew). So far I have not found Mary Looney who would presumeably be a daughter-in-law. A good candidate for Robert Quayle is first child of Robert Quayle and Esther Looney, married 5 Dec 1818 with Robert baptised 21 Nov 1819, all at Kk Maughold, however I cannot yet connect him with the others in the party. Note that any child under 7 probably travelled at a third of the adult fare - good excuse to deflate ages! =================== http://www.ee.surrey.ac.uk/Contrib/manx/manxnb/v08p149.htm SURNAMES DERIVED FROM PERSONAL NAMES OF PURELY NATIVE ORIGIN CHAPTER II: PART II.
