Go to this address: http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/ussearch.htm Search on Looney for the state of LA. There is one file that will pop up which outlines the history of Desoto Parish and its early establishment. R. J. Looney is identified as an early judge here. With Mary Jane Sample being born 9 Feb. 1852, I figure she wasn't married until at least age 20 which coincides with the date R. J. Looney was there. Joe R. Looney and Mary had John C. Looney who was born there in Feb 1878. Was there a family relationship between R. J. Looney and Joe? Just a long shot, but worth checking into.
