Bettye, Believe you refer to John (4) Warren (c1793-1848) , Absalom (3), Absalom (2). John W. died in 1848 in route to Goliad Texas while relocating his family from Madison County Alabama. In 1845 he made a trip to Texas where he bought vast amounts of land in 1845 and 1846. The trip and the death of John W. are described in Tiltons MS, Part 4, Absalom (2) beginning on page 58. Ida Campbell in Oh, Strange New World, tells about the trip to Texas, lists the children of John W. Neither Miss Campbell or Mr. Tilton list Joseph as a son of John W. and Nancy (Campbell) Looney. Elizabeth Looney, in her 1986 review and praise of Oh, Strange New World, enumerates 8 children of John W. Looney: Elizabeth, Harriet, Ann Eliza, Tuberville, Susan, John Warren Jr, Andrew Jackson and Martin Van Buren. Elizabeth does comment on a Joseph mentioned in the book: Ida Campbell: Relatives of John Warren Looney came to Texas from Kentucky twenty years before in 1828...... James Looney, twenty-eight and single, came to Texas from Kentucky in 1828...... Joseph K Looney, listed as a member of Green C. DeWitts Colony....1828... Samuel Looney, a native of Kentucky, with his brother, James Looney, in 1828 moved to Texas, locating in the Snow River Settlement on the Neches River.... Elizabeth: Page 53- I believe James Looney and Joseph K. (Kyle perhaps) Looney were sons of Robert (3) and Rebecca Kyle Looney. Robert was son of David (2) and Mary McClellan(d) Looney. The name of Samuel Looney of Kentucky is new to me. .... Looks like you called it right....a Rumor. bill
