Benne, Zachariah Cooper and Mary Ann Quinn were my 4th great grandparents (through their daughter Lucinderalla Cooper who married John (Jack) Looney III. I have never seen any records indicating that Mary [dau. of John Quinn & Elizabeth (Betsy) Morgan] was married to a David Drapper. My records show Mary Ann and Zachariah's marriage abt.1805, with a steady flow of children from then through late 1820s. There are online GEDCOMs showing the familial linkage you asked about, but I am sure that these are in error. For example ( http://awt.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=GET&db=:880466&id=I49 and http://awt.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=GET&db=kwanja&id=I05824 and http://awt.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=GET&db=:2074183&id=I103228764 which do show the family linkage you asked about. In addition, one ( http://awt.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=GET&db=:2336099&id=I509303447) shows a 2nd marriage to Zachariah Cooper, but with his children's birthdates too early by several years as well as with an incomplete (and slightly incorrect set) of children. Youngest two born AFTER the draper marriage is a clincher (but they are not shown in this database. By all the three accounts above, Mary Quinn would have been 57 years old when she gave birth to her last child by Draper, with additional births at 54 & 52 & 49 & 48 -- VERY unlikely biologically. [I will separately forward this message along with additional backup to the folks who maintain those dbases demonstrating that their indicated parentage of the "Mary Quinn (who married David Drapper) must be incorrect. ] It is clear that a David Draper did marry a Mary Quinn in Alabama on 5 Jan 1824. This must have definitely been a different Mary Quinn, as "our" Mary Quinn was in the midst of having her many children by Zachariah at that date (with two of their children [Oliver Adam Cooper and Pincney Henry Cooper] born after the referenced Draper marriage date.) See Paul R. Sarratt, Jr's dbase (http://worldconnect.genealogy.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=GET& db=prsjr&id=I318) for a good set of notes demonstrating this. For the record, David Draper and "the other" Mary Quinn are found in the 1830, 1840 and 1850 census records in Morgan Co., Alabama. The 1850 census shows their full family and also clearly shows Mary's birthyear as circa 1799 which again rules out Zachariah Cooper's Mary Quinn. The full Census record is as follows: David Draper ([cannot read age but could be "66"] M farmer b. Va) Mary 51 F b. NC William S. 38 M b. farmer VA [Wm would have been son my a different marriage, not by Mary.] David Q. 25 M (school teacher) AL Richard D. 17 M (farmer) AL Julia R. (name hard to read) 16 F AL Nicholas W. 13 M AL (in school in last year) Martha E. 11 F AL (in school in last year) Cassandra 8 F AL (in school in last year) [some ages hard to read.] Another Draper (Walter) lived two houses down in 1850 census. Having established who this Mary Quinn is NOT, does anyone know who she WAS? I.e., who were really her parents. A Quinn in Morgan Co. AL in mid 1820s (b. about 1799) was probably related to Mary Ann Quinn / John Quinn, etc. Any ideas? All the best, Jim. Thanks so much for your reply. I had not seen the Mary Quinn and David Draper marriage before and was really bamboozled. Your explanation about another Mary Quinn is enlightening. Again, thank you. Hi, List: Jimmy D. Cain wrote: >Having established who this Mary Quinn is NOT, does anyone know who she WAS? >I.e., who were really her parents. A Quinn in Morgan Co. Last October I asked about the Quinns on this list and Danny Cooper replied that he had some information, but was too busy then to send it along. Danny, if you are still on this list, we'd love to know more. I think that your Mary Ann Quinn Cooper may be related to (sister? niece?) the Mary Elizabeth Quinn who married Robert 3 (Adam2, Robert1) Looney and had a son named Hugh Quinn Looney. Robert 3's sister, Margaret 3 Looney, married Hugh Quinn. I don't know if there is a relationship between Hugh and Mary Elizabeth Quinn, but I would guess they are siblings. Robert 3 and Mary Elizabeth (Quinn) Looney lived in Tyron Co., NC until the Revolution--when he and his brothers fought at the Battle of King's Mountain, then they moved to Pendleton District, SC. I would love to know more about all of these Quinns and Looneys. Thanks, Teresa, in Louisville, KY, but soon moving to New Orleans, LA
