Several months ago someone was inquiring about a M D Looney from Chicago. I sent her a little info. I came across the name in an old article that I have. It is a photocopy of an article that I obtained from the Roane Co W V library. It was written in 1957 by Gladys Looney Groves, Francis Looney Carter, and Coyd A Looney. They dedicated "this booklet to the Looney Family with the hope that it will fall into the hands of one who is a writer and who may be interested in writing a history of the clan." "M D Looney 1031 Chicago Av Oak Park, Il M D Looney traces his lineage to Absalom and Peggy Looney of Craig County, Va. The next in line is Michael and Temperance Looney then their son John and his son James H. who is the father of M D Looney." Later in the article it reads" In 1927 Mack Dicksen Looney, of Oak Park, Ill (sub or Chicago) visited the Isle of Man, saw the old farm and the large Maughole cemetery where Looneys for many generations have buried their dead. The red stone monuments were scaled and overgrown with moss. Some stones dated as far back as 1608 were legible.
