SEND I spent the afternoon reading the Tipton notes on Peter Looney at Larry Johnson's website http://home.flash.net/~johnsonl/ and am convinced I could add some info to the notes on William Carroll Looney, a former blacksmith and my great great grandfather. He had a shop in Steffenville, MO. He was born in 10/10/1814 in Sumner Co. TN according to our family records and died in 11/9/1899 in Missouri. He is mentioned in the Tipton papers. Also, of note, from genealogy records from a deceased great aunt I have mention of a Caroline Latimer Looney that came to what is now Shelby County Missouri from Sumner Co TN in the month of March 1833. Her Husband, a Michael or Micah (Perhaps the mysterious John M? of LA in the Tipton notes) who was a slave trader had taken a boat load of slaves and bacon down the Mississippi River for sale in New Orleans several years previous. He was never heard of again. Some thought he did not want to return to his pious wife Caroline, and he may have married again and had a second family. Caroline must have thought him dead and decided to make a new life in a new country. With her came seven children whose names and lineages I have. There may have been children who remained in TN. Charles deceased and Jesse who remained in TN. The children she brought to Shelby Co. MO were as follows: 1. Peter Looney b. 12/15/1807 d. 11/13/1838 2. Louisa Looney b. 9/25/1816 d. 10/27/1838 3. Edwin Looney b. 12/27/1819 d. 9/26/1838 4. Isaac Looney b. 2/25/1822 d. 3/25/1880 5. Aurelia (Looney) Moffett b. 1/13/1806 d. 11/12/1858 6. Mary Looney b. 7/16/1824 d. 5/24/1905 and my great great grandfather the blacksmith of Steffenville, MO...... 7. William Carroll Looney b. 10/10/1814 in TN buried in MO on 11/9/1899. My question is now how do I get a hold of those other researchers on the Peter line who may be able to fill in the missing links between William Carroll Looney and the TN transition or move that occurred? I am out of Looney relatives here to ask as they are all 80ish in age and battling Alzheimer's now. I would like to confirm that this is the same William Carroll Looney, since there is some discrepancy on the dates. Ideas? Thanks for all your help! Sincerely, Barbara Looney QUIT
