It would seem that some of the information is in error. Samuel Looney b. 1778 was the son of Samuel Looney b. 1751 and Ann Lane. These Looney are of the Robert (2) Looney Jr. branch. Samuel Looney could not be full blood Cherokee, he may have been half. I've seen different stories on Ann Lane being a possible Cherokee, but I'm not sure that is a proven fact. The senior Samuel was killed by Indians when Samuel Jr. was a baby. If I recall correctly Ann remarried into the Cross family where young Samuel grew up.
