    3. Just my personal opinion, but I'm betting it is legal. . . selling a used book and the seller can price it at whatever they want. "Buyer Beware".. . and all that stuff. The buyer would be the one who would be obligated to shop around for the best price. I don't know how you go about listing it with Amazon, but I'm wondering if the way to handle it wouldn't be to let it be known its available and at your price. It sets my teeth on edge and I can't even imagine the feeling you must have about it! Karen At 08:34 PM 12/1/2003 -0500, you wrote: >Is this legal? 3. Received this information from another list and thought it may be of interest to some..... Hello Everyone: We have posted a list of early VA immigrants that should be of help to those of you who may be having problems with establishing your early lines there. This concerns the Children Ordered Sent to Virginia 1618-1642 and contains a listing of 468 children, including 337 before the Mayflower landed in 1620! We have also included information on the reason for these relocations here so you can better understand why this practice happened during that time period. This would represent many thousands of lines and could be a reason why you may be having problems with your early people there. You will find the list located on the web site at; http://www.linkline.com/personal/xymox/ Once you get there you will be looking for the link Family Pages Index which you will enter. On the Family Index Page enter CHILDREN SENT TO VA 1618-1642. Everyone has FREE access to all our web site and the reports contained there. Enjoy Harold Oliver America's First Families

    3. The "P.A. Looney" Store was actually "F.A. Looney" Store. This was the store owned by Francis (Frank) A. Looney, who was born and raised in Lawrence County, Ala. coming to Bosque Co., Texas soon after the Civil War with his father, mother and siblings. F.A. Looney is my g-grandfather. Anthony Looney earlier sent me a copy of this picture and it appears to actually say "F.A. Looney & Sons", but it is extremely hard to make out clearly. Sitting in front center of the picture with his hat cocked back and with the banjo on his knee is my grandfather, Dennis A. Looney, son of F.A. Looney. I believe the others seated next to D.A. Looney with musical instruments are his brothers. F.A. Looney may be the older gentleman in the picture with the beard standing in the doorway directly behind D.A. Looney. F.A. Looney did have a beard and that gentleman is the only one in the picture with a beard. D.A. Looney married Emma McBride in Sourlake, TX in 1903 and later they named one of his daughters "Gladys Looney" after the town of Gladys City, Texas. This group of Looney's were predominately farmers and they moved all over Texas. My grandfather documented these moves in several letters and I have combined the letters posted the contents to my web site. The M.B. Looney in question is not one I recognize as being in my branch of the Looney family. Since an earlier note described him as coming from Dallas, I would suspect that he may be related to the Judge Benjamin F. Looney that was from Dallas and this Judge Looney furnished so much information to Leroy Tilton for his Looney Family Manuscripts. If anyone is unfamiliar with these manuscripts and would like to see a complete transcription of all 8 parts, please visit my web page at: http://home.flash.net/~johnsonl/ Larry W. 2. Hello there Yes Benjamin Looney III was my ggggrandfather, born in 1796 in Tenn. I am not sure who he was married to. It may have been a Holder but it was not Samantha Ann Holder she married Benjamins cousin whoes name was also Benjamin Looney. Some time around 1838-1840 Benjamins wife died and he was left to raise 9 children one of them being Anthony Stewart Looney born in 1825. There was also another Anthony Stewart (spelled Stuart) Looney born in 1833 they were cousins. I have alot of info on them and civil war records as well. I have my line all the way back to Robert Looney SR. If there is anything you would like let me know. I also have a family picture of most of Benjamin Looney III children. Steven D Looney

    3. Hi Melinda - I am intrigued by early oil exploration in Texas, having been born and reared in the Texas "oil patch". I have a picture of the Looney store as illustrated in the book "Spindletop". The P. A. Looney store was actually owned by D. A. (Dennis Asbury) Looney. I believe the the D was misinterpreted as actually a D. I corresponded with a descendant of D. A. who said that D. A. extended too much credit during the Spindletop oil boom. As a result, when the boom ended, his store went bust. He eventually packed up his family and lived the rest of his life in Falls County, Texas near the town of Rosebud. I have Dennis Asbury's descendancy and cannot find anything close to a M. B. Looney. I feel that these two were probably not closely related. Thanks for the link - I really enjoyed reading about and looking at the pics. 3. Jim. I also descend from John and Cinderilla Cooper Looney through Oliver Powell and Piety Dodd Wood Looney. I do not have dates on your ancestors. If fact, my spelling differs from yours. I have a marriage date of 13 Sep 1868 in Coosa County and a note that they moved to Texas. Then I lost them. I have her birth year only as 1849. Would you be willing to give me information? 3. ALL - I have just completed reading a book, "Pattillo Higgins, and the Search for Texas Oil" about the great Spindletop Oil Discovery near Beaumont, Texas in 1901. The book refers to a M. B. Looney from Dallas, Texas who was the first to drill for oil (unsuccessfully) at Spindletop in 1893. I have looked to no avail as to who this M. B. Looney could be and was wondering if anyone in the "bin" might know. Looney was putting in sewer line for the city of Dallas before he went to Beaumont in 1893. I would estimate he would have been born 1840 - 1865, but could have been born even outside these dates. After his unsuccessful attempt to find oil, there is no more mention of him in the book. Thanks for your comments/thoughts! Anthony Looney Allen, Texas

Looney left with her family and went to Marble, Gunnison County, Colorado but died in a Denver Hospital and her body was returned in 1910 to Rutland, VT to be buried alongside family members. O. Pratt was mayor of Marble, CO in 1910 and editor of a small newspaper. A brother Harry worked for the Yule Marble Quarry as did Eugene Oscar later on. According to the newspaper articles of this time, "tuberculosis was running rampant" (19 July 1919). "The Marble Booster" FHC #1320783 pg. 19 21 Feb 1914 -- Miss Maud Pratt, dau. of E. O.
