Hi, Here is an paragraph from an article I ran across---maybe I am the last to see this, but just in case---- (Bill Looney) He became known a "The Black Fox". This name was probably given him because of an asscoiation with a Cherokee chief from the Guntersville area called Black Fox in the early 1800's, who also had the English name of John Looney and the Cherokee name of Enoli. Bill Looney would have been about six years old at the time of the Cherokee Removal from north Alabama when Chief John Looney, aka Enoli & Black Fox was removed into western Arkansas and eastern Oklahoma. One of Bill's great uncles was Captain John Looney ( Revolutionary War soldier) who was captured by the Cherokees in March 1782 on the southern branches of the Tennessee River, and may have left some progeny behind when he was set free after a few weeks of captivity. I am descended from this Chief John Looney, but had never heard that the other names were his also. The only info I had was that either John or his father (also John) was named Ugidlati--this is the phonetic sounding--I don't have the sylabary letters on my computer. Does anyone else have any info on this? beverlybirdwell@netxn.com
Claudia - Nita went to Houston for several days, but since these Looneys are my relatives, I will tell you what I have. James William (Jack) Looney , bn 22 Apr 1809 in Ky., he was second of eight children of Robert Looney and Susan WEilliams. Robert was son of Capt. John Looney Jack died 16 July 1879 and buried in Cotton Gin Cemetery in Freestone county , Texas. That is north of here near Teague, Tx. Married 28 Sept 1830 to Frances (Fannie) Smith, bn 14 Jan 1811 in Ky. She died 7 Feb 1864 and also buried in Cotton Gin Cemetery, Freestone Co., Tx. Their children are: Dr. Frederick Benjamin Looney bn 1836 Susan Looney bn 1837 James 1840 William Riley 1846 Rebecca 1848 John 1850 Jesse Alexander 1851 Which of these children are you descended from ? My grandmother was Thena Elizabeth Looney and descended from Absalom (2) Bill
Jim Cain You say in your note to Benne on l/24 that you have a lot of information on Capt John Looney's descendants. I am looking for information on his son Robert born about l774 in Virginia who married Susan Savannah Williams. They are the parents of my ancestor James "Jack" William Looney born c.l809 in Kentucky. Thank you for anything you will share with me. Claudia Looney Davis Huntsville, Alabama
Dianne, Benne, et. al., I just went and checked on Larry's site and he states <<Here is a picture of my GG-Grandfather, Moses Looney SR. born Aug 6, 1780 Tennessee, died Jan 9, 1855 Lawrence Co, Alabama. >> Looks like my source was incorrect (i.e., the one that did the dd/mm/yy shift incorrectly.) I'll amend my my records and defer to Larry, who is a direct descendant of Moses. Benne, Moses Looney (b SEE_DATE_NOTE_BELOW 1780, Maury, TN; d. 9 Jan 1855, Lawrence, AL) was the fourth son (and fourth child) of Captain John Looney Sr. (b. 1741/1743, Looney's Creek, Augusta Co., VA; d. 1819, Warren,Co., TN) and Elizabeth Renfro (sometimes seen Rentfro), b1740/1744, Botetourt Co., VA, d. ?, Warren Co., TN) Capt. John Looney Sr. and Elizabeth Renfro are my 5th great grandparents. I descended from Moses' brother John Looney, Jr (b. abt 1771, Maury Co., TN; d. before 9 Feb 1827 in Mobile, Mobile Co., AL) DATE_NOTE: You have Moses birthday as August 6, 1780 while I have his birthdate as June 8, 1780. This looks like an instance of date format ambiguity. The date written 6/8/1780 means June 8 in USA and Aug 6 for most of the rest of the world! Why I refuse to use that date format! I believe my date is correct, but it only comes from one source, without hard provenance. Can anyone else out there confirm which is right? I have lots of information on descendants of Capt John Looney -- as do many others on this board. Do you have additional information on Mary Guess (I have no dates for her)? Benne, The following website gives the parentage of all 22 children. I have not seen a 23rd child.: http://awt.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=GET&db=:a13499&id=I1858 The families are given with great detail (along with descendants of Henry L. Looney), so I suggest you just go look at that internet site. According to S Walls <swalls@pacifier.com> at the above site (which I call Family Tree: Swalls a13499 [Looney], it's further stated that "His first wife was Ruthie Shortridge. Their three children were: Elizabeth, Joseph, Jr, and John (probably named after John at Looney's Creek.) " Since the Polly Looney marriage took place on 7 June 1829, it is likely that those were the only children borne of that Joseph/Ruthie union. Larry Johnson has been to the cemetery which Moses & Mary are buried in, and I think he copied dates from the tombstones. Contact him at: johnsonl@flash.net I have Mary "Polly" Guest, born 17 Oct 1791 TN., marriage 21 Apr 1809 Warren Co., TN., Death 27 Jan 1857 Lawrence Co., AL. I also have born 6 Aug 1780 for Moses, maybe I made a mistake too. (?) It also seems that Renfro was Renfrew on Steven's Military record. Dianne
Does anyone know who this John Looney is? All the information I have is that he and S. C. Henson married on October 10, 1876 in Lawrence County, AL. They had 9 children before John d. in 1887: 1) Stovall Wiley, 2) Mat, 3) Jasper, 4) Lodina, 5) Babe, 6) Orlena (who may have married a Hampton), 7) Edgar, 8) Stephen, and 9) Fannie. Any help would be appreciated. Benne
Who were the parents of MOSES LOONEY, b. August 6, 1780? This MOSES LOONEY married MARY POLLY GUEST. Again, thanks you for any assistance you can provide. Benne
How many children did JOSEPH (4) LOONEY have? I have a total of 22 between 3 wives: RUTH SHORTRIDGE, MARY POLLY LOONEY, AND MALISSA. I just ran across a note that says he had 23. Is there anyone out there who can give me a list by each wife? I appreciate any help. Thanks! Benne
If anyone has a listing of the children of JOHN LOONEY and MARY POLLY GARRISON, I would greatly appreciate a copy. Would you mind advising the source of your information. Thanks in advance for any help. Benne
Does anyone have information on David Looney, a farmer, born in MO. He married Catherine Flynn on November 24, 1878 in Franklin County, Arkansas. They were in the 1880 Franklin County, Arkansas census. I am told that David and Kate moved to California and all contact was lost. Would like to find descendants of this couple. Elizabeth Bailey
Genealogy friends: Just wanted to see if this was the proper place to look for info on a John Lunny or Lunney. Appears to have settled in the Fulton/Knox County area of Illinois around the 1850 to 1870 era, supposedly from France originally but indicates on 1870 census records that he was born in New York. Anyone doing any research on the Lunny line out there? Thanks Howard Moline mooline6@yahoo.com --------------------------------- Do you Yahoo!? New Yahoo! Photos - easier uploading and sharing

Dear Karen and All, I think it probably is legal. I have a nephew that makes and sells muskie lures for around $20. He saw them listed on e-bay for around $70 and they were selling. I don't think I finished our website and will try it over again http://www.looneybook.com/ Madge
Madge, et. al., For what it's worth, I just sent the following to Amazon.com customer service. Hopefully, they will withdraw the ridiculously over-priced book. ======================= [Message to Amazon.com] You are offering to sell a used book on your AMAZON.COM website for "the very low price of $193.50" when that same book is available new from the publishers website (http://www.looneybook.com) for $40 + $5.50 shipping and handling. This may or may not be illegal but is certainly a rip off that should not be supported by Amazon.com. The offending product is advertised on your website at http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/stores/offering/list/-/0966432118/all/ref=dp_pb_a/104-0995398-06 56744) ======================= Best regards, Jim In a message dated 12/1/2003 7:31:27 PM Central Standard Time, mlcwaoh701@megabea.com writes: > To Rhonda and Karen, I almost choked, too.
