    3. Do you know Norman Looney of Texas? He is also a descendant of the Adam Looney line that came to Texas and he has done a lot of research on the family you speak of. He was also writing a book on the Adam Looney line. Norman had the "Pleas David Looney" that you mention listed as "David Pleas Looney" or David P. Looney, but at one point I believe he told me that there were no records that actually showed the "Pleas" as being part of his name. You do know that David was married more than once and had children by both wives don't you? Some stayed in the New Boston, Texas area, others scattered into west Texas. Are you just looking for burial sites or what kind of information are you looking for? You might also want to stop using the John (1) reference, there is no proof of it, only speculation. Robert Looney is the first Looney documented in America and there is no record or proof of exactly where he came from, how he got here or who his parents were. 1. Re: [LOONEY-L] Joseph K Looney
    2. Larry Johnson
    3. Ginny, I was looking into some of the Looney family members that are recorded as being some of the first to settle in Texas. Joseph K. Looney is shown as one of the DeWitt Colonists (1828) and one of the Lavaca Delegates to the "first consultation" of Texas (Oct 1 - 6, 1832). The Handbook of Texas notes his existence and the fact that he came from KY, but they have no further family or personal information on him. I was attempting to do a couple of things. One I wanted to find documented proof of his ancestry and family information. Was he married, to whom, did he have any children? When did he die? Second, there is a Sarah A. Looney of KY, b. ~1800 that married William Hardin, a Liberty delegate to the second consultation of Texas. She and her husband also had a claim to early Texas fame because the Mexican officers that were captured at the battle of San Jacinto were kept for a time at their place. I was wondering if Sarah is the sister to Joseph K. Looney given their close proximity of birth, Texas location and the times. There is also a Samuel and James Looney that were delegates of Snow River (now Tyler Co) that attended the first consultation. The Handbook of Texas supposes they were all brothers because they showed up and disappeared from documented history about the same time, but I'm guessing they were cousins. I'm thinking that if we can get enough evidence on who all these Looney were, I can post it to the internet and possibly cause an update of the Handbook of Texas. Joseph K Looney had a land claim in Jackson Co, TX and it says his claim was on the Carancahua Creek. When I checked one of the topo maps for Jackson County, there is a smaller creek feeding into the Carancahua named "Looney's Creek". I'm assuming this creek is named after Joseph K. Looney as there is nothing posted on the web to confirm or deny this. Can you or anyone else on this list help tie and prove all these facts? Larry W. 2. Dear Bill, I found your N.L. Looney in the 1920 Oregon census. His name was Noel L. Looney, bc. 1878 in Missouri. His dad was born in TN. and his mom in VA. He is shown with wife Jessie, who was also born in Missouri. Her dad was born in KY. and her mom in Missouri. They had no children listed. Noel was a cigarmaker at that time. The census record can be found dated 3 January 1920, in the city of Cornwallis, Benton Co., Oregon. (ED. #6). I haven't yet been able to find a 1930 census for them nor any prior for him. I'll look again as time permits. Take care. John C. Sears JSears2111@aol.com
