I joined the First Family of TN under Peter Luna quite some time ago, go my certificate and that was it. I doon't know if there was a deadline or not. I believe it was the big genealogy group in Knoxville, TN (Eastern TN Genealogical Society) that was involved in it. Haven't been back to TN in several years to do research on the Luna/Looney line. Seems I'm back into my Gadds, as an updated book may be published in the near future. Speaking of books, how is Jane Looney of Columbia, TN doing? Is there an update planned for "The Descendants of Peter Luna 1759-1861"? ________________________________________________________________ The best thing to hit the Internet in years - Juno SpeedBand! I spoke with Jane Luna a couple of years ago and she stated that she did not plan to do any further work on the Peter Luna line. Dee, while not familar with this I imagine if proof is asked you can back it up. I know I did this with Missouri where one of my lines settled. Why don't you e-mail me the sight, I'd like to take a look at it. Thanks, Pat
I'm still around. I just have been given more work at my job and I'm taking an online history class this summer, so I don't contribute much for now. I'm just barely keeping up for now. I am wondering if I can be one of those "First Families of TN" since I descend from the Looney line down this way: 1. Robert Looney, Sr. 2. Robert Looney, Jr., 3. Benjamin Looney, 4. Isom Looney, 5. Mary Looney Mathews Anyone been involved in that?? Many thanks. Dee Mathews Independence MO
Sarah, I got your message. Guess folks are either taking a break or on vacation. Connie

Hi Sara: I'm still hanging around, but there hasn't been any activity in a long time. Used to be a jumping hopping place around here. My genealogy activity has slowed due to the challenges life seems to throw in our way. I'm assuming the same has happened with others. I stay subscribed because I don't want to miss out on anything! Has this group just been quiet lately, or is stuff getting caught in my spam filters? I haven't gotten anything from this list since June 10th. Sara Every soul is a melody which needs renewing. -- Stephan Mallarme
Is there any connection between RUTHIE YATES and MELISSA SHORTRIDGE? I have a paper that shows them as sisters. I am thoroughly confused about RUTHIE YATES/SHORTRIDGE's parents and siblings. Benne New Boston, TX
Did JOSEPH LOONEY B. March 6, 1805 in Botetourt County, VA marry RUTHIE SHORTRIDGE OR RUTHIE YATES? What was your source did you gain the information from? Thanks for any assistance. Benne New Boston, TX
Does anyone have any information on DIDEMA LOONEY who married JOHN RAMEY. JOHN's parents were JAMES MADISON RAMEY, SR. and PRICEY ELSWICK. The familys were residing in Buchanan and Tazewell counties in Virginia. Benne McDonald New Boston, TX
When I was there in May, several years ago, I hired a local taxi and asked to be driven around to anything the driver thought interesting, for an hour. One great memory is of the beautiful, fragrant, and expansive swaths of bluebells in a park which had walking trails. The price was reasonable and I saw much that wouldn't have been visible from public transportation, though that was thoroughly enjoyable as well. Be sure to take the train. Those were the ones we used when in London. Don't expect the same on the IOM though, as far as taxis go. That is, unless things have changed a lot since we were there. Some of the others on the list have visited since I have and may be able to help you better, but as I remember, the taxis we caught at the Manx Airport appeared to be individuals personal vehicles, used also for taxis. We asked the price before leaving the airport with them, but everyone we had dealings with on the Isle of Man was helpful and seemed as intrigued with us as we were with them. Even the guide we hired during the bus strike was a taxi driver, I believe. We needed 2 cars so he brought his wife along with her mini van to drive part of us. Just kind of seemed like home when lots of company shows up. ha At 09:24 PM 6/13/2004 -0500, you wrote: >Karen mentioned using reputable London taxis. the easiest thing to do >is just always take the big black hansom cabs--don't take >mini-taxis--and you won't have a problem. the hansom cabs are highly >regulated and knowledgeable. > >Teresa > > > > >==== LOONEY Mailing List ==== >If you're having problems, the listowners can be contacted via E-Mail >at EGLooney@USA.Net (Ed); JSully7@AOL.Com (Sully) or our beloved >listmistress, Pat Davis at PatLDavis@AOL.Com ==== LOONEY Mailing List ==== Were there 12 brothers that arrived in Boston from Ireland in the 1850s? Karen mentioned using reputable London taxis. the easiest thing to do is just always take the big black hansom cabs--don't take mini-taxis--and you won't have a problem. the hansom cabs are highly regulated and knowledgeable. Teresa
Waymond "Glenn" Thompson died at this home in Elkton, MD on Jun 9, 2004. He was 49. Glen was the son of General Waymon Thompson and Margie Olivia Jones. He is survived by his wife, Donna; daughter Jennifer Thompson Taylor (by first wife Betty Faye Smith); and son Jimmy Glenn Thompson by his second wife, Arlene Trala James; and three grandchildren. He was predeceeced by his son, Jerimy Glenn Thompson in 1977. Funeral arrangements are incomplete at this time. Glenn was my first cousin. My Aunt Margie has had to bury all three of her children - William Verby at 4 months, Stanley (1996), and now Glenn. My mom grew up with Glenn, so this is very hard on her as well. The ancestory is: Glenn Thompson Margie Jones Verby Jones Nora Tennessee Luna John C. Teresa's post mentioning cars made me think. . . you can also hire guides to drive you around the island in their vehicles. I think they may be called "blue badge guides" or something like that. There was a bus strike while we were there and we really wanted to see some sights we were going to have to miss because of the bus strike. We inquired at the desk of the place we were staying and the clerk called someone for us. Everyone was very helpful. You can also inquire at the IOM Tourism Department and I think you can get a list of names of guides there. I don't remember it being terribly expensive, but there were 10 of us in 2 cars, so several people chipping in on the fees. We just told him what we wanted to do and he gave us a price prior to leaving the hotel. It was great because the drivers knew other places of interest close by that we didn't have a clue about, plus adding in the interesting tidbits of folklore, etc. Don't miss the Manx Museum in Douglas. One word of caution regarding London and you may already know this, but we didn't. . . is we were told to be careful when taking taxis. Be sure if you take a taxi anywhere to be sure it has a meter before getting into it. They told us there are some unscrupulous ones without meters that charge outrageous rates and there isn't much choice but to pay it, so to just be aware and make sure it is a reputable taxi service if you use one. Hi, Ovada: We've been there twice, once by the slow ferry from Liverpool and once by the fast ferry from Lancaster. There is also a ferry from Anglesley. We wanted to take a car over, so ferries were the best option. It is much easier to get around with a car, esp. if you want to see specific sights. To see the highlights the public transportation (light rail and coach/buses) is good, and it will take you to several Looney sites--Kirk Maughold, near Ballagilley, past the church at Dhoon and the Hibernian (don't know your lines, so not sure which sites you are interested in). One of the Looney websites had pictures of the first two on it last time I looked. From London you will have to fly. There are several good websites on-line with good information on how to do this. The island is lovely and has many wonderful things to see, including an unspoiled thatched cottage village with people still living the way our ancestors lived, two well-preserved castles, an ancient packhorse bridge, gorgeous glens, ancient churches and Celtic crosses, Viking burial mounds, prehistoric henges, hillforts, and cairns, and much more all on a tiny island. Hope you go and have a wonderful stay. Teresa New Orleans, LA
Ovada, Another tip for your trip. The plane is small and so I even had to check my purse at the door to the plane. It is a rather large healthy back bag. They were very particular about the weight of the bags. We got a taxi from the airport to where we were staying and they promised to come back and get us for the return flight. We had to call and remind them because they forgot and caused us some anxious moments. We used public transportation while we were on the island and had a great time. We used a Manx agency to book the plane and a hotel. The address we used in 2001 was enquiries@isleofmantravel.com. They were very helpful and they have a website. I hope you have as much fun as we did. Amelia Orr Debusman At 07:55 AM 6/9/04, you wrote: >When I was there a few years ago, the best way to get to IOM from London >was by air.
