Nita, The Holder genealogical family is participating in the DNA Project and it is turning out to be a tremendous tool. It has mainly verified sound research and helped to point the way in a number of questionable areas. However, we did have one big hiccup. The lab returned results of a non-match on one sample where we felt we absolutely knew the line was a match. This created quite a commotion until one of the participants contacted the lab an requested a review. The lab quickly responded that a "human error" in handling the samples had occurred. Someone had simply placed a tray in the wrong slot and had created a problem with 4 or 5 different results. They quickly fixed the problem, we received the expected results, an apology, and assurances that the science was not faulty, just human handling. You might pass this on to the Harbisons unless they have already requested a technical review. Other than this one glitch the Project is so successful we are planning a Holder DNA summit to review our findings collectively. Any of you involved in DNA projects to help pin down your ancestors? Have been corresponding with a Harbison/Looney researcher for several years. Her husband, the Harbison, turned out to not be a Harbison at all and some of the other researchers in this ancestral line are devastated and uncertain where to look now. SO - if you are doing genealogy DNA research, better be prepared for undesired, unexpected results. Her years of early (1700's) Harbison research are wasted for her but perhaps not for others. Nita
My great grandfather was George Washington Looney. I have very little information on him. Would like to learn more if anyone sees anything here that looks familiar. He married Janie Lowe. They had a son, Clyde Yancy Looney, born in 1907 and died 1973. Clyde married Ethel Mintie Sloan. Clyde also has a brother named Ted Looney (and I think other brothers and sisters). Clyde and Ethel had two sons. My father was Wilburn Dean Looney and is now deceased. Caryn
Hey Tim... to start off, don't pay any attention to misspelling,, or is it mysspeling, whatever! My name is Don Rawlins; Age 73; I, like you, come out of the early Robert,,,via Michael and Michael, Jr. Most of "us" stayed in the south: TN, GA, AL. VA, NC and environs. My interest in writing you is that one of my sons, almost age 36, married into a familly of WAALI. Mr. Waali had married into a family of HUNTs, all from around Poulsbo and down toward Belfair, Tahuya, where they have a "cabin" nearby. We(wife and myself) have been there five or six times and love Poulsbo especially. Didn't know if your family elders might have been there for a while and may know of the Hunts or Waalis. Shake those trees a little and see of any mutual friends are hanging out around there. Have a good holiday season. Don

So, I am doing a little family tree project for her Thanksgiving "homework". I ran across both of your names and email addresses at Larry and Liz Johnson's website. So, I thought that I would identify myself as a Looney descendant. First, here is a little about myself. My name is Tim Turner. I am 43 years old. I live in Poulsbo, Washington, which is just west of Seattle. My wife's name is Michelle. We have three children: Madeline (5), Ross (3) and Megan (1). And...I am a 9th generation descendant of John and Llewellen Looney! It will probably be a big clue to tell you that I was born and raised in Lewisburg, Tennessee. (Marshall County) Here is the lineage: 1) Robert - came to America (settled in Virginia) 2) Peter - first born in America (Philadelphia), captured by Indians 3) Peter - dad died when infant, signed Cumberland Compact, eventually moved to what became Marshall County in 1836 4) Peter - born in pre-Tennessee in 1788 5) Peter - born in 1828, called "Whistling Pete" 6) Willis Lively Luna - born in 1856, more on my great-grandfather below 7) Flossie Claire (Luna) Holly - born in 1894, more on my grandmother below 8) Ada Lurline (Holly) Turner - born in 1920, still living in Lewisburg 9) Timothy Alan Turner - born in 1961, and that's me!! Willis Lively Luna, my great-grandfather has an interesting story. Here is the sketchy version that I just learned a few minutes ago. I am sure that more details could be produced. Apparently, Willis' first wife, Elizabeth Madden, had a boy friend that shot Willis in the wrist. At the time Willis and Elizabeth had an 8 year old boy, Willis Andrew. I believe the family was living in Texas at the time. (Note that his brother Manly also settled out there.) Well, after this incident Willis moved back to Tennessee, where he eventually married Ada Geneva Gant and had 9 children. Flossie Claire Luna married Thomas Cleophas Holly. "Mama Holly" was the only grandparent alive when I was born. Her husband died 3 months before my birth. Mama Holly died when I was 13 years old. I mentioned Manly Luna (another son of "Whistling Pete") above. Mom told me that she has remained in contact with Thelma Luna, who married Manly's son Hal. She remains alive today at the age of 103. I remember visiting her in Greenville, Texas back in the 1970s. Well, I am enjoying perusing all of the information that others have worked so hard to preserve. Maddie's little project will involve dressing up a paper doll in cloths from the ancestor's homeland. I will probably do something from the Isle of Man. Sign me up for the Looney email distribution list. Have a great day! Tim Turner --part1_2b.6573295d.2ebd9940_boundary--
This was in the Springfield, MO News-Leader newspaper. Does anyone know from which Looney line he descends from? His grandfather, great-grandfather?? I am related to the Looneys from Walnut Grove, MO, but I don't know exactly where he fits, but think he might be from the Robert Looney Jr/ Benjamin Looney/Isom Looney/Allen Looney line. Orville Allen Looney Orville Allen Looney, 89, of Arlington, Texas, formerly of Walnut Grove, passed away Friday morning at 4:45 a.m. in Pat's Care Home following an extended illness. He was born in Walnut Grove, the son of Orville A. and Lillie B. Looney, growing up in the Walnut Grove area, graduating from Walnut Grove High School in 1932. He was affiliated with the Baptist Church. He was an Army veteran of World War II, and retired from the Army-Air Force Exchange Service as Director of Training. Traveling extensively throughout the world, he lived in Germany, New York, and for several years in Hawaii. He is survived by one sister, Marjorie Fite of Tulsa, Okla.; caregivers, Jon and Kim Cannon of Alvaredo, Texas; and many extended friends he felt were as family. Graveside services will be Sunday, Oct. 10, 2004, at 2 p.m. in Greene Lawn Cemetery, Walnut Grove, with Rev. Lon Killingsworth officiating. Interment will follow. Arrangements are under the direction of Wilson Brim-Daniel Funeral Home, Walnut Grove, Mo. Friends may call at the Walnut Grove chapel after 10:30 a.m. on Sunday, prior to services. Dear Barbara, I missed seeing the movie on TV but it reminded me that I have it in my collection and will look at it tonight. You gave a good review and thank you. Like you, I have wished that I could have visited the Isle of Man, but I think it is too late for me. I have enjoyed all the reports from others, and we published in our book Jack Hockett's visit and Mary Lee and Paul Murray's visit. Many have given reports on TV and shared with us. Betty and Paul Bingham visited us one time and when they went back to Colorado Mary Ann Looney had exciting news for them. A diary had been found, made by M. D. Looney of Chicago in the summer of 1927. He had made a trip to the Isle of Man, and they sent me the diary. Like so many, they would like to know who Robert Looney's p! arents were. Elizabeth Looney sent me a letter that a researcher on the Isle of Man had written to her. She told Elizabeth she would take no more money from her because she could not find what she wanted. Of course, that was finding the parents of Robert Looney. On our website you can see some typical writings from the Isle of Man. They are very hard to read from the original and time consuming . This movie gives us a chance to just enjoy it all. I didn't mean to write so much, but it is a topic I love to talk about. Thanks Barbara for alerting us to this movie. Madge Looney Crane

Appears to be on the Fox Cahnnel, rather than WB. "Waking Ned Devine" I just noticed that in less than an hour on TV the "WB" channel they are showing a movie that I think all my Looney relatives would enjoy. My ancestor, Robert Looney was from the Isle of Man. If like me, you always wanted to visit the Isle of Man, but will probably never get to see it; dont miss seeing the movie, Waking Ned Devine. A friend recommended thatI see it, and I loved it. Waking Ned Devine is beautiful; it is both funny and fun. The vistas are grand, and the music is a delightful mix of traditional instruments. All location shooting was done on the Isle of Man. Waking Ned Devine was filmed 6 years ago, if you don't see it on TV, you can rent it.
