Her parents were Oscar Eugene PRATT and Margaret Lucy DANIELS; Oscars parents were Eugene Oscar (E. O.) PRATT and Mary A. LOONEY. At the FHC I found the following newspaper item: "The Marble Booster" FHC #1320783 pg. 19 21Feb1914-Miss Maud PRATT, dau of E. O. Pratt and sister of Harry D. Pratt, died Thursday afternoon at the Marble Hospital. Death was due to tubercular meningitis. Short services were conducted by the Reverand Oliver Kingman friday afternoon and burial will be at Rutland, Vt. beside her mother and sister. (Mary A. Looney and Minnie Pratt) A married brother lives at Rutland. Maud was born 2Sep1879 at Ludlow, Vermont and 5 years ago her mother died at Denver of tuberculosis. This would place the date of death for Mary A. Looney at abt. 1909. ********* From a look-up I have: Mary A. 3. I found the info on the cemetery for Peter and Rachel Looney cemetery plot burial place on the internet at a posting on Genealogy.com. My questions still remain around Michael or Micajeh V. Looney, Caroline Latimer's husband though. Please let me know what you find on this guy. I am finding a date of death of perhaps 1830 which means according to the family records I have maybe he had died before Caroline Latimer Looney moved the kids to MO from TN. However, I don't know where he is buried, and there is another Michael 3 Looney (see http://www.mindspring.com/~mozark/MLnyGen.html) that is the son of Absolem and Margaret Moore that was born in 1751 and died in 1839 out there that is NOT who I am interested in and is complicating matters further. My main interest is finding out where Michael or Micajeh, Caroline Latimer Looney's husband is buried and the dates on the tombstone. So any info from your files will be appreciated. Thanks. My line goes from 1st generation to present: 1.. Robert Looney 2.. Absolem Looney 3.. Peter H. Looney (buried at Looney Cemetery, Cottontown, Sumner Co., TN. 3. Marie, Your message is kind of confusing. Is the lead in to your message from an old obituary? It appears that Maude Pratt died in 1914 and that her mother was Mary Looney who died in 1909. I can't tell if you are simply referring to your un-named grandmother of if your grandmother was named Charlotte Mary Pratt. If you are seeking information on a possible family connection, could you lay out the family relationships a little different? Please tell us who Mary Looney married, where they married and when they married if you know this. Do you have a birth date and place for Mary Looney? 2. Henry S P Chappell married Martha J Smith Nov 4, 1834 in Maury County, TN. Per CD, they were there for the 1840 and 1850 censuses. This won't help you but I have requested a reading on the 1850 census. Bill Landers

    1. Re: [LOONEY-L] Samson Looney - Missouri
    2. Reuben J Chappell was killed in the race riots in 1900. The riots were a result of a black man being accused of killing the daughter of Bernard Wild as she walked west of Peirce City on her way home from church. This was followed by a mass exodus of the black population which had been entrenched in the town since its inception in 1870. R J Chappell married Anne Looney, youngest daughter of Sampson B. Looney 1806 TN-1864 who married Sarah Brown Hunt in Morgan County, Illinois in 1830 and settled in what was to become Lawrence County in 1832. (Crawford>Greene1833>Barry1835>Lawrence 1845). When Sampson was killed by bushwhackers in 1864 he owned 320 acres of land, 240 purchased from the government and 120 from Elisha Landers. This land was situated in the same section where the first Court of Barry County met. In 1870 when the railroad was being built William Robert Wild offered over 20 thousand dollars to Sarah and her children. He paid two of them an additional $1000 each and signed a mortgage for the balance. Mr. Wild had a town surveyed which he named St. Martha in honor of his wife. Meanwhile, Andrew Peirce, a railroad executive offered land to the village to the east for a town to be called Peirce City. The surveys were recorded about the same time and Peirce City immediately began to populate and prosper. When Mr. Wild found out the train would stop two miles to the east he walked out on his land and put a bullet through his head. Martha Wild, the widow, spent the next seven years settling the estate and when it was determined there were not sufficient funds to cover the mortgage the land was sold for pennies on the dollar. Sarah and the Looney sons bought back some of the land and Bernard Wild, brother of William Robert Wild and father of the murdered girl, bought a large parcel. Some family researchers suggest that Sampson’s mother was married three times. 1) Stewart. Labon Stewart b 1803 in VA settled south of Sampson for a time and his grand daughter married Sampson’s youngest son. 2) Looney and 3) Standifer. Sampson was first buried on the farm of his son in law, Charles Shipman but moved to the Pierce City Cemetery when it was established. The sign at the cemetery entrance reads Pierce City (today’s spelling do to a U S Post office error about 1920) 1864. John Hunt, father of Sarah Brown Hunt Looney consented to the marriage. He was in the 1830 census of Morgan County, IL but there are strong indications that there was a connection to Franklin County, Tennessee. Two letters mention Hunts, Sherrills and Coylers. My lines: Robert and Elizabeth Absalom and Margaret Absalom (3) Priscilla Looney m. Thomas K Thompson Jane Thompson m Henry McCary Benjamin F McCary m Tennie Peevey Oran O McCary m Manta Frost Dorothy McCary and Ira Landers (my parents) William E Landers m Minnie E Crooks William E Landers m Manerva Looney d/o Sampson Elisha Landers Finding a slot for Sampson in the Robert and Elizabeth line and finding Sampson’s killer are paramount on my to-do list. I have a suspect for the killing but unfortunately, he’s not available to stand trial. Finding Sampson’s parents is something else. Bill Landers, Cape Cod, MA

    3. Pardon me for jumping in here... I have Edwin CHAPPELL b: c 1840, that I am searching for conformation of his parents. "My" Edwin CHAPPELL is listed in the 1860 Napa/Sonoma CA census with his Grandmother Nancy "Clorence" STUBBLEFIELD, and continued to be found in further census near her. We figure that he is the son of Nancy's oldest daughter POLLY [MARY?] STUBBLEFIELD b:1819 AL. We are looking for the marriage of Polly to Unknown [ED?]CHAPPELL, in either AL or TN about 1838-9. We have Nancy "Clorence" STUBBLEFIELD [w/ right amount of childen of the correct ages] in the 1830 & 1840 Jackson Co. AL, We have her last son born 1841 Rutherford Co. TN and most of her older children marriages 1840's in Wilson Co. TN. We have Nancy w/ her two youngest sons living next door to two older sons & their young families also her daughter Molinda Stubblefield-Grissom in the Gibson Co., TN 1850 census. I would be interested in the parents & siblings of R.J. CHAPPELL b:1842 Maury Co., TN. 1. DNA results
    2. Carl, Very good advice. They had several members redone, and if I remember correctly, some even went to another lab. That section of the Harbison family was already having problems with their connection so the results did not surprise me very much. It was very disheartening for my friend. She had poured so much effort into that brick wall. Glad the Holder family is "holding". Nita In a message dated 1/1/2005 4:04:37 P.M. Central Standard Time, cholder@wk.net writes: Nita, The Holder genealogical family is participating in the DNA Project and it is turning out to be a tremendous tool. It has mainly verified sound research and helped to point the way in a number of questionable areas. However, we did have one big hiccup. The lab returned results of a non-match on one sample where we felt we absolutely knew the line was a match. This created quite a commotion until one of the participants contacted the lab an requested a review. The lab quickly responded that a "human error" in handling the samples had occurred. Someone had simply placed a tray in the wrong slot and had created a problem with 4 or 5 different results. They quickly fixed the problem, we received the expected results, an apology, and assurances that the science was not faulty, just human handling. You might pass this on to the Harbisons unless they have already requested a technical review. Other than this one glitch the Project is so successful we are planning a Holder DNA summit to review our findings collectively.
