Hey, You are quiet welcome!! I hope that when I pass these on they are of some use to someone!!! I find these on the computer, and some come from other discussion groups I belong to! Glad you liked it! Pam Looney
Hi Ginny, If my James/Joe R. Looney is connected to Larry's family and assuming your too then I'll need all the help I can get. Say a prayer that this is it. I don't know where to start to find out the connection. Bettye Looney Bowerman
DAVID REASONS LOONEY is my gg-grandfather..can I help? Ginny
Another lead worth checking into. I've seen a reference to a James R. Looney b. abt. 1836 who was a possible son of David Reasons Looney of the David (2) Looney line. David Reasons Looney was known to live in Lauderdale Co, Ala. near other Looney relations believed to be of the Robert (2) Looney line and later he moved into Texas. I don't have too much on the David (2) Looney line and hopefully someone from that line can clarify this James R. Looney mentioned as a relation to David Reasons Looney. I remember something about David Reasons from someone on our list. I'll have to go back to my e-mails and check it out. I don't know what the R is in my James/Joe R. Looney - Reasons, Robert, who knows. Can't wait to find out. Bettye Looney Bowerman
The following notice was transcribed 7 Sept. 1997, by a GGG-Grandson, Larry W Johnson, of Moses and Mary (Guest) Looney. This notice was posted in the Moulton Democrat following the July Term of the Lawrence County Probate Court. The article has been transcribed with the exact spellings contained in the published newspaper article. (Note: spelling of Noxuba Co., Miss. should be Neshoba) This article is interesting from the point that it not only names the living descendants of Moses and Mary Looney, but also states the last place of their known residence. THE STATE OF ALABAMA, Lawrence County, S.S. Probate Court, July Term, 1855. Thos. Sparks Adm'r of Moses Looney, deceased. VS. Moses Looney's Heirs. Petition to sell slave. CAME the plaintiff as Administrator of Moses Looney, Deceased, and filed his petition under oath, for the sale of a certain slave therein set forth for distribution, belonging to the Estate of said decedent, to wit: a slave sixty-two years old. Petitioner alleges that said slave cannot be equally, fairly and beneficially divided among the heirs and distributees of deceased' without a sale thereof, to wit: Mary Looney, widow of deceased, who owns a separate Estate over and above a destributive share of said Estate, John Looney, of full age, who resides in Lawrence county, Alabama; Moses Looney, of full age, and who resides in Carroll Parish, Louisiana; Elizabeth Brown, who intermarried with one Isaac Brown, and resides in Walker county, Alabama; Martin Looney, of full age, and who resides in Noxuba county, Miss.; Lydia Ann McDaniel, who intermarried with one James McDaniel, and who resides in Monroe county, Miss.; Sally Wiley, who intermarried with one William Wiley, and who resides in Noxuba, county, Miss.; George W. Looney, of full age, and who resides in Noxuba county, Miss.; William Looney, of full age, and who resides in Lawrence county, Alabama; Mary Bruce, who intermarried with one Spartin H. Bruce, and resides in Lawrence county, Alabama; Anderson Looney, of full age, and who resides in Noxuba county, Miss.; Matilda Garrett, who intermarried with one John Garrett, residence unknown, and James Looney, minor son of Joseph Looney, whose residence is unknown to Petitioner. Petitioner prays all necessary orders, &c. It is therefore ordered that the 2d Monday in September next, be set for the hearing and determining of said petition; that citations issue to all of said heirs who reside within the jurisdiction of said Court, and that publication be made in the Moulton Democrat, for forty days, a newspaper published in the town of Moulton, requiring all persons interested in said petition, to appear and contest if they choose, and that William H. Salmon be appointed Guardian ad liten of said minor heir, to guard his interest on the final hearing of said Petition, and that the same be make known to him. TESTE: H. A. McGHEE, P. J.
I was looking back through some of my old e-mail files and found reference to your Joseph. In these messages, they refer to him as James (Joe) R. Looney. I have a James Looney b. 1836 in my Moses Looney Sr. line who is unaccounted for. His father was Joseph "Joe" Looney b. 1810 d. Aug 1885 near Texarkana, TX. Joe and his son are both mentioned during the execution of the Will of Moses Looney Sr. of Lawrence County Ala. (1855). Apparently they had moved off and the family had lost contact with them. James was mentioned as being a minor (<21). Descendants of Moses Looney Sr. are known to have been in the early Mississippi territory and my Moses Looney Jr. group were in Louisiana when the Civil War started. I wonder if this James is not in fact, your James "Joe" R. Looney. I'll do a little more checking and will send you what little I have on Joe and James. This has made more sense than anything else I've seen or read. My James/Joe R. Looney can be found on the 1870 DeSoto Parish Louisiana Census with a black man (80 years old) living with him. According to The State Of Alabama Probate Court, July Term, 1855 there was a slave that was 62 years old. If James/Joe R. Looney received this man as part of the estate, that would make him 77 years old in 1870. Is it possible that it could be the same slave/black man? Just a thought. Larry, can you share with me the rest of the information you have on this line. I think this could be worth the research. What do you think? Bettye Looney Bowerman
They ask that you do not send attachments to e-mail intended to go through the listserver. Apparently it causes problems to some e-mail programs. What we've done in the past is post the picture to someone's homepage for all to view or send the e-mail and attachment directly to those who ask for it. If you will send the JPG file attachment to me, I will post it to my homepage and forward the address where it can be viewed to the group. In your e-mail, please identify the people in the photo and furnish any other information you would like posted with it. E-mail it to me at: [email protected] Larry W Johnson http://www.flash.net/~johnsonl/ ----- Original Message ----- From: <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Saturday, February 12, 2000 8:27 PM Subject: [LOONEY-L] Picture > Is it possible to send an attachment of a JPEG? Larry, I've got a good feeling about this one. Let me know what you find out. I've found Joe going under the name of James. It confused me as to what his real name was. Rumor (again) said he was a minor when his parents died. Please let me know what you find. Thanks Bettye Looney Bowerman
I submitted this to a couple of other NE AR and SE MO discussion groups. Bettye, Don't know if we have the same Joseph H or not, but mine is abt. 1813 AL married 23 July 1837 to Elizabeth Lentz in Lauderdale Co., AL Ginny
That's why I asked. I didn't know the rules and I've never seen anyone else send attachments. Thanks - I tried Bettye Looney Bowerman
Checked this site out and it was great. They don't have Tennessee or Texas and many other Applachian area states listed yet but are working on it. Most of the family that I'm interested in would be in those states not yet done. Thanks for a great site. Where in the world do you find these? Ovada
It is my understanding that rootsweb does not allow any attachments of any kind. That is what they told me when I accidently tried to send one to a list. It is possible to send a JPEG to an individual. Amelia At 09:27 PM 2/12/00 EST, you wrote: >Is it possible to send an attachment of a JPEG? Can you give us some additional information on your Joseph. I have several that don't have birth dates listed. It might help for us to know spouse, children, location, where he died, etc. Larry W Johnson ----- Original Message ----- From: <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Saturday, February 12, 2000 12:28 AM Subject: Re: [LOONEY-L] Joseph H. Bettye: Rootsweb doesn't like us to send attachments through the list. Next time post and send direct to anyone who wants a picture. Pat
Is it possible to send an attachment of a JPEG? I have a picture of my grandfather, aunt, uncle and great-grandmother that I just scanned. Thought maybe someone might peg some resemblance. Bettye Looney Bowerman
My Joseph was married to Mary Jane Sample January 24, 1873 or 74 in DeSoto Parish, Louisiana. They moved to Appleby, Nacogdoches County, Texas between 1884 and 1888. There were 10 children - William Robert 10/27/1874, Haywood A. 3/8/1876, John Clinton 2/16/1878, Joe Shelby 1/27/1880, Creola Roberta 8/31/1882, Ishum Henry 3/22/1884, Oscar C. 2/9/1886, Grover Cleveland 10/7/1888, James S 5/17/1891, Benjamin F 8/4/1894. Joseph is buried at Bethel Cemetery in Appleby, Nacogdoches County, Texas. He died June 8, 1906. I have a feeling that Joe's father could be John Clinton Looney. Some of Joe's records show his father as John W and John C. Since one of his children was John Clinton I have a strong feeling that was his fathers name. Bettye Looney Bowerman
Can someone give me some dates on these Joseph's? I'm grasping at any information on my Joseph who was born in September 19, 1836, (saw some info with 1833). Does anyone have a male born about that date. Maybe mine isn't even a Joseph. Maybe he changed his name. Bettye Looney Bowerman
