    1. Re: [LOONEY-L] Galbraith/Looney Marriage
    2. Don't remember where the info came from but it was Mary Polly that married Benj. They were married 11/20/1792 in Tenn. Their children were Arthur (2/9/1795), David Riley (2/2/1793), Benjamin (1/31/1797), Moses (1/24/1801), Mary (7/11/1802), John (1797) & Anthony (1804). Her parents were Arthur Gailbreath and Mary Sharp. Richard

    1. Re: [LOONEY-L] Joseph M. Looney, Tenn>AKrkansas>Louisiana
    2. This is my direct line: Joseph M Looney was married three times. The first marriage was to Delany. One child: William Benjamin Evans Looney b. 6 Oct 1833. The second wife was Amanda and the third Mrs. Bray whom he was married to at his death. Joseph is listed in the 1850 LA census, but as I recall under an incorrect first name. Here are records in Bienville Parish concerning his death, and the family is in History of Bienville Parish Vol.II p. 638 & 515. There is also some info in records of the First Methodist Church in Grand Saline, TX. The family went from TN, to Arkansas and then to LA where they Joseph joined his father. R. BLoomer

    2. Dear Leah, I am one of those people who use ancestry.com and yes I am paying a small fee for it, but find it is worth it! The advantage of using this site is you have access to all the population census, social security, land deeds, historical documents --just to name a few of the government records available. There are old maps, information on how counties and states were made and when. The search engine is incredible and gives you tons of information on leads that you probably would have never found anywhere else. The forms available for me to use are very helpful also! All of this information is available at one sight instead of searching tons of sites, It is a time saver for me too because I do not live close to any Historical / Family Center Libraries where I can do the research. You are given a choice to submit you family tree if you want to. I have not - I feel that one should not submit information until all the information has been documented. The flip side of that is, through the information that the people have sent, I have found connections to the families I have researched. I would say for the small fee that I pay to Ancestry.com is well worth it!! I hope this helps you to understand some of the reasons why we choose to use the .com (s) that are available for us on the internet. Sincerely, Pam

    3. Hi Becky, enter "Clayton Library for Genealogical Research" on your Search Engine. They (Houston Public Library ) have a total library catalog search; however in the "Location" click on the arrow to designate 'Clayton .... Library' as your point of search. You can search by title, author, subject, etc. You might be able to do an interlibrary loan, our genealogy department in Conroe is able to get things. You might check with your library there, and inquire. Hope you find something good. 2. Ginny, I went to Clayton years ago. I went to their old place then to their nice new building. There is so much information there. I was hoping to research from home so I didn't have to spend a whole Saturday there. I like it better here. I may have to break down and go. It isn't in the best part of town so I tried to get there early enough to park in the parking lot rather than down the street. I really should take some lessons but time seems to be the problem. Too much doing for kids. Bettye Looney Bowerman

    2. Bettye, there is no charge for using the Clayton. They do have memberships (nor or less used as donations & tax deductible) but you can go there almost anytime including the week-end @ no charge. It is a good way from where I live WSW Houston (Hwy.6) & Richmond area @ West Oaks) so when I go - - I try to make at least a half-day or more. Maybe we could meet there sometime.... Ginny

    1. Re: [LOONEY-L] Australia Connection to name
    2. Some of those Looneys in Australia may be of the same line as Rachel and John Looney who according to "A History of Kirk Maughold" by Constance and William Radcliffe, emigrated from the IOM to Australia. He went there in 1841 and she in 1843. 3. Bettye, This is a hard question to answer because it all depends on what you need and if the site has what you need. Most of your work is still going to be done in libraries, court houses and looking at microfilm from the Family History Centers not to mention other field word like cemeteries. Rootsweb and familysearch will give you a lot of free information. Watch ancestry.com for their free databases. They run different ones free at different times. You can work for a long time with free sites before you use all their resources. Good luck with your searching.
