There seems to be more than one spelling of the name. Robert Looney's will had his name spelled "Looney" and "Luney" within the same document. The name was spelled both ways in the Augusta County, Va. court records too. It is to bad no one has found actual documents of when they came to America and where they came from. At this point, the origin (which varies) of our Looney family is based on family lore. It seems strange, that there hasn't been any comment about a book called "Ireland". The cover I think, would send some people in another direction in looking up our ancestors. County Clare, Ireland, that is. The same picture is also in page #129, in case the cover is damaged. Have a look, and successful hunting. The text is by Sonya Newland, with photographs by Bill Doyle. ISBN # 0 7607 1606 4. Perhaps your local library has a copy. Mine is from Barnes and Noble. [email protected]
Just read your note on list dedication that said LOONEY originated in county CORK, can I take that to the bank? It seemed that CLARE had a load of them too. I`m not disputing you , just thinking out loud. Jack Loonie
Looking for the 12 L oonie brothers that came to U.S.A. in the 1850s Also. Hoping that One of them might be the father of Henry Loonie that was born about 1865 in N.Y., Married Sarah Jones about 1897 and had 3 children by 1903 then left them all , never to be heard of again. He was my grandfather and i`d like to find him so i can kick his butt. he might be old enough for me to take at this point. Thanks for any help you might provide. jack loonie
Thanks but no McCallies in my line
Would everyone that has contacted me over the years, about out Looney's please email me? I had a total computer crash and lost everything. My genealogy was saved because I had sent a ged file to someone and have gotten it back. But all the backups I thought I had, proved to have nothing on them. I would like your email addresses. Thanks so much, Becky Willow, Alaska
The 1930 census will be available April 1, 2002. By law, the census must remain sealed for 72 years. G2
I am only an amateur and was reviewing census records for TN looking for McCallies and I remember that two McCallies lived with a Mrs. Penny. I have thrown these away thinking I would just give up . Your name caught my attention. I believe this may have been on a Rutherford County entry, does the name McCallie ring a bell with you? OOOOOPPPPPPPPSSSSSS!!!!!!!!! I messed up! Nobody jump on me. I already caught it! This was not intended to go to the List!!!!!! I am sorry, sorry, sorry, sorry.
I am not sure of this information, but I think I heard that the 1930 census will be out in 3 years. I know that I have been doing genealogy for 10 years and the 1920 census didn't come out until I had been doing it for about 3 years. I wish it was this year. Wilma McKinney << Does anyone know when the 1930 census is due out? I have heard that census data is released after it has been on record 70 years, therefore, the 1930 should be due this year. Any comments? >>
I am posting this name again, in the event that someone of you have some unturned stones that he might crawl out from. Henry Loonie, Born 1865 somewhere in New York. Any clues would be greatly appreciated. Thank you, Jack Loonie

I am in your debt. Here are the instructions for my ten year old grandaughter's assignment: Part One: Simply send a Post Card depicting a scene from where you live, to the following address...Brittany Cobb; c/o Mrs. Presley; C.R. Clements Elementary School; 306 E. Ave E; Copperas Cove, Texas 76522. On the back, just put that you heard about the assignment from Grandpa Mike. Part Two: Send me an email to [email protected] All you need put in it is...(1) the date (2) your name (first name only will do, I'm sure) (3) your location (4) then finally, just a few words describing your location, such as famous landmarks, historical sites, industries, or other neat facts about where you live. You do not need to do any special research for this. It is for a 5th grade Geography class. They are making a scrapbook of these post cards. She has hardly ever been outside Texas, so she is really "fired up" over this. I will collect all these emails, and send them on to Brittany in one bunch. The only thing I emphasize is that this assignment is due no later than March 15, 2000. I won't forget your offer to help, guys. Those grandchildren are special! Mike [email protected]
Mike, Glad to help!!! Pam
Wondering if anyone has information on Peggy (Margaret) Luna and Andrew C. Hogan family? My information shows Peggy to be born ca. 1787 Davidson or Sumner Co. TN and died ca 1846. She was the daughter of Peter Luna (3). Peggy married Andrew C. Hogan, son of Edward Hogan and Elizabeth Hendrix. They were listed in 1840 Giles Co. TN census. The only child I have listed is Mary (Polly) Clarissa Hogan, b. ca. 1815 who married her 1st cousin, James Kain Luna. I descend through Mary Clarissa & James Kain Luna, but would be interested to know if there were any more children of the marriage, etc. Karen Luna Ray

You all may have seen this a dozen times already. Thought I'd post it anyway. Sullivan Co. TN Misc. Goodspeed's History of Sullivan County. The Looneys, who were among the first settlers of the county, came from WALES. It states they lived for a time in Virginia. Col. David Looney and Samuel Looney names mentioned specifically. I am interested in the Wales connection. Anyone have further info on that subject? Karen Luna Ray <http://c-23.rootsweb.com/usgenweb/archives/tn/sullivan/misc/sullivangspd.txt>
I am sure you have done a lot of research on your Joseph line. Colleen and I are trying to see if this line could include our Joseph (Albert ???) Looney born about 1840 to 1844. He had to come from somewhere. We know he married Almeda Penny in 1860 in Soddy Daisy TN. So we are looking in every corner of TN, since he said he was born in TN. Pat was checking out the George Looney line in Lauderdale Co. AL. That did not work out so we are trying another. Judi Wright
This is the Joseph Line. I descend from this line, and alot of work has been done in this area. What is the particular segment(s) you are trying to nail down? Jim Sullivan
