Floyd, My grandmother, Laura Newton Looney Trimble, from Randolph Co, AR, had two twin brothers, Ky and Zack, who settled with their families in the Pauls Valley area in the early 1920's but none of their children were the names that you mentioned. A great number of Looneys are buried also in that area but none fit your descriptions. (Randolph Co, AR is adjacent to Oregon Co, MO) I do have three Looney brothers in my data base, but I believe they came from Alabama. Have nothing further on them. Their names were William, b 1880, Arthur b 1883 and John b. ______. Can you give me any further details? Good luck, almost a cousin Glyn Trimble Broken Arrow, OK 918-252-5230 ----- Original Message ----- From: Floyd Looney <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Wednesday, March 15, 2000 11:09 PM Subject: [LOONEY-L] My first message... Steve, Do I need to send corrections/additions to this info or do you already have it? Thanks. Glyn
Steve, thanks for that info. I was working on these families over the weekend and was wondering how they were tied in to Robert. I had them all in my unmatched file, that I am trying to get reworked, so your site helped me much. No, this isn't my line, but I have files of all of the lines in varying scenes of disarray. Laura
FYI - I've updated a file containing info on the children (and grandchildren) of Wm (4) Looney and Rhoda Stubblefield-Looney located at: http://www.mindspring.com/~mozark/RLnyGen.html (under the category Children of William and Rhoda Looney) Just click and the txt file will be displayed. It now includes Randolph Co AR census info from 1850-1880, which gives a better picture of descendants. Will add 1840 census info and data from the 1890 reconstructed census when I get it. ///Steve Looney///
Marylee, That would be me! I am the one who had written about M. D. Looney. I have copy of an old manuscript that he had written and sent to my cousin Morris, no deceased.l Yes, Mr. Looney did reside around Chicago & I believe is one in the same. He an my cousin, Morris Wayne McGee were in contact with each other on the Looney line. Ginny [email protected]
Several months ago someone was inquiring about a M D Looney from Chicago. I sent her a little info. I came across the name in an old article that I have. It is a photocopy of an article that I obtained from the Roane Co W V library. It was written in 1957 by Gladys Looney Groves, Francis Looney Carter, and Coyd A Looney. They dedicated "this booklet to the Looney Family with the hope that it will fall into the hands of one who is a writer and who may be interested in writing a history of the clan." "M D Looney 1031 Chicago Av Oak Park, Il M D Looney traces his lineage to Absalom and Peggy Looney of Craig County, Va. The next in line is Michael and Temperance Looney then their son John and his son James H. who is the father of M D Looney." Later in the article it reads" In 1927 Mack Dicksen Looney, of Oak Park, Ill (sub or Chicago) visited the Isle of Man, saw the old farm and the large Maughole cemetery where Looneys for many generations have buried their dead. The red stone monuments were scaled and overgrown with moss. Some stones dated as far back as 1608 were legible. Descendants of the old Looney stock still live on the island and maintain social contact with their American Cousins." Mary Lee Murray [email protected]
Worth a read, it is high time for a stamp honoring our ancestory efforts. Thanks, ///Steve Looney/// =========================================================== From: [email protected] I am looking for an early Cash marriage to a Bridges, that somehow ties into the Looney family. I have info which I haven't confirmed that there is a John Cash who marries a Martha Bridges in Hawkins Co. TN...can't find a record of this. My 2nd great grandfather was James Monroe Cash b. 1826 East TN and his brother Abraham(Abram) Looney Cash b. 1826-7. I believe they were born in Washington Co. TN, near Jonesboroug, as that's where Abraham enlisted in the Confederate Army in 1863 and I also find a large group of Cash's there. I am just wondering if you might have and early Cash/Bridges/Looney tie in to these families in Hawkins Co's. Shot in the dark but I thought I'd try. Thanks for your time, Chris
Larry I have information further forward if you'd like..Contact me at [email protected] Terry Paulus
Hi Crystal, We will be sorry to lose you on the Looney List. Everyone adds something. My Mama used to say "Never cut off your nose to spite your face." and "Being impetuous can leave you noseless." There are a lot of good people out here, someone used bad judgment, I have at some point, haven't you? Delete it, let it go, and get on with genealogy. Hey, if you didn't have any Looney in you, you would have no reason to be here in the first place! WE all realize what happened, but it's over, and we are adults---and better still ---genealogists! Like I said, we will miss you. I hope you still have a nose. Cheers, Leah
Check out Tilton Manuscript of the Looney family. This is posted to my homepage at: http://www.flash.net/~johnsonl/ Allie Brown Looney is a descendant under the Robert (2) Looney Jr. branch of the family. Tilton's Part II The line goes: Robert and Elizabeth Looney Robert Looney Jr. and Margaret Rhea John Looney (Capt.) and Elizabeth Rentfro Robert Looney and Susannah Williams John Looney and Nancy Fergurson James Fergus Looney and Elizabeth Henderson Allie Brown Looney (my data stops there) I show Allie being born in Weakley County, Tenn and died 2 Nov 1951 in McKenzie, Tenn. I don't have her spouse or children. Larry W Johnson ----- Original Message ----- From: Terry K. Not mad at anyone and certainly don't need to forgive anyone. None of us are perfect but I just don't need the kind of insults I have received over expressing my opinion. So I will leave because I feel that is the best. Sorry if I gave the impression I was faulting anyone. Seems that if I open my mouth it raises ugly comments so I will not participate and maybe then I can have some peace. Thanks for your kindnesses as well though. Many of you have helped me with my genealogy. I have no animosity. Crystal
Crystal, Hope you change your mind....don't want to lose any of "us". If the good Lord can forgive us all our "errors" we should forgive also....hope you w/hang around. Your cousin, Ginny
Ok, we all know that this list is not for anything other than genealogy, but lets remember to try to be kind when someone makes an error. New people to this list might get the impression that everyone is aggressive and rude. -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] <[email protected]> To: [email protected] <[email protected]> Date: Friday, March 10, 2000 12:04 PM Subject: Re: [LOONEY-L] chuckle >Not the place for this...... > > >==== LOONEY Mailing List ==== >To unsubscribe, send a message to [email protected] >with the command UNSUBSCRIBE as the only line in the message's body. >If you're in digest, send it to [email protected]
