Info posted "as found" on the web. ///Steve Looney/// ==================================================================== SULLIVAN COUNTY, TN - MISC - Goodspeed's History of Sullivan County The Looneys, who were among the first settlers of the county, came from Wales, and lived for a time in Virginia. Col. David Looney lived on Muddy Creek, two miles above the Holston, where he erected a blockhouse. Samuel Looney located on the Holston, one mile below the mouth of Beaver Creek. Sullivan County was the second county formed in what is now Tennessee, and included all the part of Washington County lying north of a line formed by the ridge dividing the waters of the Watauga from those of the Holston, and extending from the termination of this ridge to the highest point of the Chimney Top Mountain. The act was passed in October, 1779, and in February, 1780, the county court was organized at the house of Moses Looney, at which time a commission was presented appointing as justices of the peace Isaac Shelby, David Looney, William Christie, John Dunham, William Wallace and Samuel Smith. Isaac Shelby exhibited his commission dated November 19, 1779, appointing him colonel commandant of the county, and D. Looney of the same date appointing him major. The academy provided for Sullivan County by the act of 1806 was named Jefferson Academy, and William Snodgrass, John Punch, E. R. Dulaney, Abraham Looney and William Baird were appointed a board of trustees for the institution. ==================================================================== HARDEMAN COUNTY, TN - VITALS - Marriage Records Looney, Belle Gray, Julius Jan 1887 Looney, Ed Campbell, Mattie Dec 1906 Looney, Ed Campbell, Mag Sep 1907 Looney, Exie German, W.H. Sorry about that!! I had no trouble at all. It goes to a Huntsville, AL site that hosts various chats. I had no problem logging on, but after about 50 minutes I left, since there didn't seem to be any Looneys logging on. While perusing other sites I found 3 Looneys in Canada. A Charles 1846, & David 1847, seemingly received emmigrant travelling assistance. Maurice Looney, age 30 in 1840 was in a list of passengers aboard ships bound for Quebec from Ireland, gives names & ages of adults & children, & their occupation. These can be found on Tuffsearch's Immigration Links--great site, lots of information. Hope it helps someone. ld
Hi Guys, We are chatting now at: http://huntsville.about.com/mpchat.htm
The site listed throws me into various other sites--for the last 30 minutes, I've tried to find the chat room---any chat room. I give up. ldavis
I received your email shortly after you sent it Carol, and at the time I had a few minutes, so I clicked on your link and had no problem getting right in to the chat. There was only 2 of us for just a little bit, then by the time I had to go, there were about 6 or 7 people in there I believe. It was interesting and fun, once you figured out how it worked. I couldn't get into the URL you listed but I found it at this URL: http://www.corinthian.net/mccc/plookup.htm There is one possible Looney. Private Charles Laboie- Lenroy - Looney is an alternate spelling. Captured in the Virginia Wilderness 5-6-1864 he died September 25 1864 of diarrhea. He was with the New York 40th Infantry Company A. A long time ago I came across a website which had a search engine for finding prisoners at Andersonville Prison during the civil war. I remember there was a Looney and he had apparently died at the prison. Does anyone know where this site is? We might be able to use that information now. It could be a relative of ours, or if you have already found the site and discounted it or found out more please tell us.
