I need help finding the last name of my gg John William Looney's (1862-1948) second wife. I have a copy of their marriage certificate but can't make out the last name. Louise L. ????? They married in Payette, Idaho on January 16, 1907. Shortly afterwards they moved to Oregon. Does anyone have any information or ideas on where to look? Thanks, Meri Looney deWaal Martin
Jan, I can't give you any advise on where to begin the research but keep me in mind if you come across a Joseph Looney born September 19, 1836. I'm stuck on my Joe. Found him on the 1870 census in Northwest Louisiana - close to Arkansas. It's a shot in the dark. Bettye Looney Bowerman

Hi all, Just want you to check out the Rose Hill Cemetery records listed in the Rootsweb Tombstone Project. The graves are in Chickasha, OK. They are listed alphabetically, so you can easily scroll to the Looney families listed. Hope this helps someone Barbara Hunt
Sorry, that should have been Coosa County, AL, not Butler.

Hey, Just want to say thank you to a couple of people who sent some information about Looney's in Iowa and Illinois. Thanks for taking the time for the lookups! Happy Hunting, Jacklyn P. Jones
Hi, It's no wonder we have a hard time finding those elusive ancestors; it doesn't seem to be just the Looneys, as these same problems have been seen in several of my lines. Along with all the different spellings, I've also seen where people suddenly switch to their 1st names in the records - when they've been going by their middle names for years. And then we've found some people who switched to a nickname, muddying the research waters even more; in those cases, we would never have known who they were if not for some oral history, bible records, or other documents which identified other family members. It would seem that some of the information is in error. Samuel Looney b. 1778 was the son of Samuel Looney b. 1751 and Ann Lane. These Looney are of the Robert (2) Looney Jr. branch. Samuel Looney could not be full blood Cherokee, he may have been half. I've seen different stories on Ann Lane being a possible Cherokee, but I'm not sure that is a proven fact. The senior Samuel was killed by Indians when Samuel Jr. was a baby. If I recall correctly Ann remarried into the Cross family where young Samuel grew up. I just received the Guion Miller rolls application for the Eastern Cherokees #18666 for my great grandmother Melinda Adelaide Blevins Powers.
