Hi, I am also researching the Looney families of Ga. my gg grandmother Lydia Looney was born there abt. 1808, but was in Tn before 1829 when she md. my gg grandfather Levi London. I'd appreciate it if you would keep an eye out for these people in your search. Early records are really hard to find in Ga. According to the Tilton manuscript, there was a son Martin Luther Looney b. 10/29/1811 in Ga. son of Adam (3); Robert (2). His mother was Patsie Walters b. Ga. He is probably the Martin L. Looney below in the 1870 census. Hope this helps. bj ----- Original Message ----- From: <Perkalong@aol.com> To: <LOONEY-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Saturday, May 03, 2003 8:04 PM Subject: Re: [LOONEY-L] Re: GA Looney families > Mr. Sears > > These are the only listings in GA for the names you mentioned. > > 1870 Franklin Co. Hi I am researching the Looney families that were in Ga. by 1807/1808. I have a lot of Census data and have read the Tilton works several times. I just seem to get more and more confused. Guess I'm having several senior moments in a row :) My gg grandmother was Lydia )Liddy) Looney b. 1808 GA. she was in Maury Co., Tn. by Jan 1829 when she md. my gg grandfather Levi London. They were in the Marchall Co., Tn. 1840 census, the from 1850 on in the Maury Co. Tn Dict 7 census. Two of their sons fought in the civil war. My g grandfather Christopher Columbus London said on his civil war 1906 pension appl. & his 1922 questionnaire that his mother's father was from close to Suahanah Ga. In the 1820 Franklin Co., Ga records the only two Looney's I've found are Adam and Peter. Adam was living there and Peter owned land there, but Adam pd. the taxes on the land. where was Peter, and which Peter was this?? I know the Adam was the son of Robert 3; Adam 2; Robert 1. In the 1830 Census I found a name I've never heard of before. Dominick Looney 60/70 yrs old b. bet 1760/70 Chatham Suvannah Ga. Do you have any idea who he is? There was also Felix Loony 40/50 yrs old b. 1780/90 Do you know who he is? Franklin Co., Ga. Thomas F.(Farrar?) Looney 30/40 b. 1790-1800 Noah Looney Joseph Looney b. 1800-1810 I think this is the Joseph C. Looney in the 1850 census b. 1807 Ga. md Permelia Wright, children Martha, Mary, Benjamin, Adaline, Willie,Jephah, Harriet, all b. Ga. I know that all these people came from the origional Robert Looney Family from the Tilton works, except he does not show the Dominic Looney. I hope you don't mind me sending you all this, I just can't put it all together. Some of it seems to be different from other things I've read. I have a lot more and am currently trying to just put the data together in some kind of order, starting with the SC Looneys, which are some of the ones that came to Ga. very early, along with thoughts I have about the facts. I'm hoping that some of the above rings some bells with you, since you seem to be so knowledgable about the Looney families. Hope to hear from you soon. Later bemery@bellsouth.net

I don't know about the availability of the book, but the author's address inside the cover is: Wilma Walker Dunlap 12146 Lake Placid Drive St. Louis, MO 63146 Note: there are two volumes, most of the data you seek is in volume 2. I've had a hard drive crash since communicating with the daughter so most of my communications with her are lost. I will dig thru my things and see if I have any printed out email with her address on it. The family you seek begins on page 128 with Sarah Caroline Looney b. Mar 20, 1864, d. Aug 26, 1938. She married first: Jacob McGlothlin, b. 1861, the son of David and Nellie McGlothlin. She married second to Anthony R. Street, m. Dec 28, 1892, b. Apr 20, 1871 and d. Jul 2, 1962. There were four children by the first marriage and nine by the second. The two sisters I met, granddaughters of the Sarah Looney above, are listed in the book as Mrs. W.W. Rice and Mrs. Homer Thompson, both of Natural Bridge, VA. This of course if Maudie Perkins Rice and Thelma Perkins Thompson. The daughter I had the email exchange with is still a Thompson, but I can't recall her first name right off the top of my head. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Charlie Jones" <charlie11@zoominternet.net> To: <LOONEY-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Friday, April 18, 2003 8:43 AM Subject: Re: [LOONEY-L] Caroline Looney, Jacob Mcglothlin , Virginia > Larry Thanks for your fast reply , I am working on Family Tree for > Mcglothlin , Need dates ,birth death, marriage. > Jacob Mc and Caroline(Nellie)Looney are G-Grandparents Nellie > Jane Mcglothlin Grandmother , her sister Aunt Julia Perkins ( Natural > Bridge,Va) I remember staying with her boy she was good cook. > How can I buy book you talked about Then Along came Joe,,,, By > Dunlap > Would you have E-mail address for the Daughter. > > Thanks Charlie Jones Rising Sun ,Maryland > > > ----- Original Message ----- > From: "Larry Johnson" <JohnsonL@flash.net> > To: <LOONEY-L@rootsweb.com> > Sent: Friday, April 18, 2003 9:09 AM > Subject: Re: [LOONEY-L] Caroline Looney, Jacob Mcglothlin , Virginia > > > > I'm familiar with the family, actually met two of them in person in 1989 > (by > > pure accident) and communicated with one of their daughter in later years. > > This daughter works as a secretary at a university there in the western > part > > of VA. not too far from Natural Bridge. I am searching for the parents of Lydia Looney who married Levi London on Jam 22, 1828 in Maury County, Tennessee. they are my gg grandparents. On the marriage record it says Liddy Looney md Levy London. According to census records her name was Lydia born about 1808 in Ga. Apparently her family moved to Tn. sonetime prior to 1828. In the 1807 Franklin Co., Ga. Tas list were Adam Looney who was also listed in the 1820 and 1840 census, so he would not have been in Tn. in the 1820's; and Peter Looney 1807 Tax list, also listed in the 1820 census in Franklin Co., Ga. The Looney families in Maury County in the 1830 census are Abram Looney; Robert Looney age 60/70; David R. Looney age 20/30, Most likely one of these families belong to her. Can anyone make a connection between the Ga. families and the Tn. families? I hope someone can help me on this because I have searched for her family and have hit a wall. Thanks bj

Last October I asked about the Quinns on this list and Danny Cooper replied that he had some information, but was too busy then to send it along. Danny, if you are still on this list, we'd love to know more. I think that your Mary Ann Quinn Cooper may be related to (sister? niece?) the Mary Elizabeth Quinn who married Robert 3 (Adam2, Robert1) Looney and had a son named Hugh Quinn Looney. Robert 3's sister, Margaret 3 Looney, married Hugh Quinn. I don't know if there is a relationship between Hugh and Mary Elizabeth Quinn, but I would guess they are siblings. Robert 3 and Mary Elizabeth (Quinn) Looney lived in Tyron Co., NC until the Revolution--when he and his brothers fought at the Battle of King's Mountain, then they moved to Pendleton District, SC. I would love to know more about all of these Quinns and Looneys. Thanks, Teresa, in Louisville, KY, but soon moving to New Orleans, LA
